Designed with a singular vision...To deliver unmatched performance and efficiency!

Introducing the insetta 35ifc  – the bar has been raised.

The Insetta 35IFC was designed with a singular vision… to be the best-performing center console sport fishing catamaran in its class.  Enjoy unmatched performance, range, and efficiency thanks to the 35IFC’s hydrofoil-assisted design.

In addition to being the best High-Performance Fishing Catamaran in its class, it also provides a smoother and dryer ride in the rough stuff!

This boat was designed for people who fish, by people who fish!  From its integrated livewells to its cavernous coffin boxes, level open deck layout, massive insulated storage and so much more, this boat was designed for maximum range and fishability!

Here’s what our customers have to say: “Holy crap do I love my 35 IFC with the Merc 300 V8’s on the back. We ran her down to Key Largo the other day, snorkeled all day, got lunch at Shipwrecks Bar and Grill, and ran back. Cruised between 40 and 45 mph, mostly around 42. So smooth it’s nuts. Burned maaaayyybe 40 gallons for the whole day. As we cruised the dashboard was telling us between 1.7 and 1.8 mpg, but I’m pretty sure we cruised more than 40 miles and burned between 35 and 40 gallons, no more. So… suffice it to say that you guys have absolutely crushed it and changed the game here. Fantastic work”! – Alan, Hull #4

Frequently Asked Questions

IFC is Insetta Boatwork's Internal Foiling System.

You can expect a significant increase in cruise speed; Improved handling and stability in rough conditions; Better acceleration; A boat that is less affected by increased payload; A 20-40% increase in fuel efficiency; and a 20-40% further cruise range! Additionally, the IFC technology will also provide a drier ride in choppy conditions and Provide for more responsiveness when turning at speed!

The system is a fixed setup, there is nothing to operate and there are zero moving parts.

The IFC Technology in effect smooths out rough seas by allowing the boat to run from wave crest to wave crest at a relatively smooth and stable attitude. The IFC System creates lift which help to in effect “Carry” the hull higher in the water. The system acts as a set of wings carrying the boat at speed, keeping the hull from having to follow each wave across its entire contour. In other words the surface of the waves have less effect on the hull as the IFC system is lifting the boat. Additionally, the aerodynamic lift created by the catamaran hulls creates even more lift at the bow of the boat, keeping the nose high and preventing the “slamming” or sneezing found in other catamaran hulls.

No, you don’t. The foils are flush mounted to the bottom of the keels of each sponson (as well as up in the tunnel.) At its centerline the main foil of the IFC system is only slightly lower than the keel line. The boat will easily load onto a standard catamaran trailer. There is no big contraption hanging way down under the boat.

Remember, the foils are INTERNAL to the tunnel. At its lowest point the main foil is only slightly lower than the hull and is higher than the props. Because of this the odds of striking the foils are extremely low. The boat is designed to be lifted by the foil. The structural integrity of the foil system is such that the weight of the boat could be supported many times over by the foil. As such, if you did somehow manage to strike the foil on something EXTREMELY SUBSTANTIAL, like a stone shoal, the likely outcome is that you may (in a very worst case scenario) bend or break a foil wing. If that were to happen, you could still operate the boat to port with the remaining foils. The IFC foils are made from a very high-grade stainless steel and designed to meet or exceed relevant guidelines for impact and strength.

As water travels through the tunnel and around the foil, a tremendous vortex is created. This force keeps most debris from being trapped in the tunnel or around the foil. Between the pressure of the air moving through the tunnel, and the vortex created in the water, the tunnel and foils will stay clean and clear.

The outboards of the 35 IFC are mounted on a slight outward angle to place the propellers properly to maximize the thrust and flow efficiency created as the water travels through the tunnel and around the foils. This mounting also helps the boat to lean into a corner, much like a monohull.

Firstly, we’d ask, “Why would you want to?” But the short answer is no. IFC is an integrated system that is integral to the design of the boat.

The short answer is that boats with technology similar to IFC have been in use for many years, but not in the recreational market. Commercial and Military applications are quite prevalent. The initial design of a hull and system like this is quite complex and can be cost prohibitive. We at Insetta feel the gains in efficiency, speed, range and ride quality far outweigh the initial design and build cost.

Upon deciding to build a foiling Cat, Insetta assembled a team of naval Architects and Marine Engineers to refine an existing and proven design. Using their own state of the art construction techniques, Insetta brought an application specific version to the fiberglass Center Console market.

Why did Insetta Boatworks decide to build a boat with IFC?

For decades, Hydrofoil power boats have proven to be the most efficient craft for a variety of offshore operations.

While pursuing a B.S. in physics in 1960, Victor Insetta was employed doing anti-submarine research that utilized high speed Deep-V patrol boats equipped with hydrofoils. Their ability to pursue submarines at high speed, operate safely offshore, and, being foil borne: allowed their hull to run clear of the water avoiding direct hits from torpedoes. Decades later, Vic and his family rode comfortably on hydrofoil ferries in Italy, flying over white capped waves in the bay of Naples.

In 2017, The Insetta 45 was chosen to be the official chase boat of the America’s cup! Four 45’ Insetta’s catamarans were shipped to Bermuda to assist at various cup events. Sailboats, competing from several countries, were catamarans with hydrofoils ! The Insetta 45’s ran parallel to these “foiling sail cats” to assist with TV coverage. The sailing cats were traveling at speeds approaching 50 mph, 2 ½ times the wind speed . Efficient … you bet . They could also turn on a dime at over 40 mph…

It became obvious: that a foiling cat would make a great offshore outboard power boat… Many foil power boat designs in the past, had wide foils that stuck out the sides, increasing their beam and draft. It made them difficult to dock, and they couldn’t operate in shallow waters. Joel Shine (chief operating officer) of Insetta Boatworks found a catamaran design that had hydrofoils mounted in the tunnel, (that location between the tunnel walls actually improves their efficiency), and does not add to its draft. Further improvements could be added by using our ultra-light high strength infused composite construction.

Joel, Vic and our technical staff reviewed the foiling cat’s initial specifications and performance data, and then sea trialed two foiling cats with internal hydrofoils. Our staff includes a second physicist and pilot… Glen Dobbs. We are all active boaters and we determined we would build our version of a foiling outboard powered cat. We contacted a Naval architect, who designed several successful foiling power cats . He is now a member of our technical staff.

Our 35 “foiling cat” design has set the standard for Foil-Assisted Sportfishing boats. The hull, foils, materials, and engines are synergistically combined, to provide: unrivaled high-speed cruising efficiency , and provide safe offshore handling, with unimpeded shallow water operation, including beaching, without foils or props contacting the bottom.

Top 13 Luxury Sport Fishing Yachts You Need to See

  • By Yachting Staff
  • Updated: August 8, 2024

It is possible to fish from any type of boat, but a sportfishing yacht is purpose-built for angling aficionados to chase fish of all sizes and species, whether it’s fun fishing for sailfish and mahi-mahi off the beach in Palm Beach or campaigning a professional-level billfish crew on the high-profile (and big-money) tournament circuit from the Bahamas to Bermuda and back. The best sport-fishing yachts combine rugged, blue-water construction with performance, range, agile handling and the comforts of luxury-yacht living. On the outside, sportfish yachts are notable for their dance-floor size cockpits for fish fighting; livewells to keep baits kicking; in-deck fish boxes to keep the catch chilled; and an armada of rod holders for drift fishing, kite fishing or trolling. They also are known for big diesel horsepower and speed, often north of 40 knots. Sportfish yachts are also notable for luxurious interiors with supple leathers, granite countertops, high-end galley appliances and spacious staterooms. These are highly self-sufficient angling platforms geared for life beyond the horizon where the water is deep and the fish are big.

Top Luxury Fishing Boats

The following 13 sportfish yachts are all vessels we’ve reviewed. They are listed in no particular order.

  • Bayliss Boatworks 60 : The first walkaround model for this noted boatbuilder, Sequentis is designed to fish the competitive South Florida tournament sailfish circuit .
  • Viking 90 Convertible : The flagship of the Viking fleet, the 90C leads a new breed of mega-yacht sport-fishing boats.
  • Merritt 88 Sky Bridge : The renowned custom boatbuilder introduces an 88-foot sky-bridge model designed for global sportfishing adventures.
  • Duffie 70 : This 70-footer from Maryland’s Duffie Boatworks blends craftsmanship, performance and fishability.
  • Albemarle 53 Spencer Edition : Blending production efficiency with custom-boat design was a dream several years in the making, and the result is well worth the effort.
  • Winter 46 : The boatbuilders at Winter Custom Yachts have optimized the walkaround concept with this MAN-diesel-powered 46-footer.

Viking Yachts 82 Convertible

Viking Yacht Company recently debuted its newest sport-fisherman: the 82 Convertible . Hull No. 1 is serving as the factory demo for the busy summer tournament season in Bermuda and along the East Coast. Thanks to many factors, including the use of computational fluid dynamics, performance is exceptional: twin MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines provide a reported 42-knot top hop and a 36-knot cruise speed. This 82-footer also leverages several proven systems for ease of use and efficiency, such as digital switching from Octoplex as well as the Optimus electronic power steering system. The Viking 82 is engineered for many systems that were previously custom installations and are now on the options sheet, including omnidirectional sonar, multiple water makers and crushed ice machines, tuna tube bait systems as well as the extensive use of refrigerated storage boxes. The Viking 82 is available in three models: open bridge, enclosed bridge and sky bridge.

Royal Huisman 171

A 171-foot sportfisherman? Yes. That’s exactly what the six-deck Special One is, from Dutch builder Royal Huisman. The interior and exterior design is from noted Dutch yacht-design firm Vripack, which calls the vessel “a sport-fisher on steroids.” The hull and superstructure of the supersize sportfish is Alustar aluminum, a material known for its strength and relatively light weight. Even with six decks, Vripack has managed to create sleek lines. It starts with a high freeboard forward that seemingly dares the ocean to approach. Transitioning from the bow, the sheerline slopes downwards in a steady cadence. The flowing sheerline resolves seamlessly at the cockpit. The vessel’s raked house and stacked deck are juxtaposed against the long profile, creating a sinewy aesthetic, which is no simple feat in this 171-footer. Add in all of the expected angling accouterments and 30-knot speed, and you have a sportfish yacht ready to chase fish around the world.

Rybovich 94

Size, speed and agility is a unique trifecta in a sportfish boat, but the 94-foot, 41-knot III Amigos from Michael Rybovich and Sons checks all those boxes as well as a few more too. The sportfish boat, designed by Patrick Knowles with naval architecture from Dusty Rybovich, is built in cold-molded mahogany. Prop pockets help keep the boat’s half-load draft down to a Bahamas-friendly 5 feet. The Rybovich 94’s impressive speed is helped by a pair of beefy 2,600 hp MTU diesels.

The owner of III Amigos also owns a 196-foot Feadship superyacht and, while he wanted the sportfish to be all business on the outside, he wanted luxury-yacht finishes on the inside. Subtle but telling touches are the solid doors to the staterooms; each mimics the owner’s Feadship with ¾-inch thickness. The doors close flush (each has hidden hinges), and the sound is of a Rolls-Royce door closing.

Release Boatworks 43 Gameboat

Reminiscent of arguably one of the most classic sport-fishing boats of all time—the 43-foot Merritt—the 43 Gameboat from Release Boatworks takes that design to a new level of sophistication and performance. These include a hull built using blister-resistant modified epoxy resin, which is vacuum-infused using Airex foam cores with E-glass hybrid fiberglass laminates to maximize strength while minimizing weight. The stringers are built with fiberglass encapsulated foam, and the bulkheads are vacuum-infused with composite cores. The extensive use of composite materials throughout the boat creates a strong finished product and saves a great deal of weight, providing admirable performance. With standard twin 550 hp Cummins QSB6.7 diesels, the 43 Gameboat cruises at 30 knots and tops out at 35 knots. Notable options include 600 hp Cummins QSCs or Volvo Penta D-8s, omni sonar, gyrostabilization and various tower options. The Release 43 Gameboat is also available in walkaround, flybridge walkaround or express layouts.

Viking Yachts 38 Billfish

The Viking Yachts 38 Billfish offers a special place in the hearts of bluewater sport-fishing enthusiasts around the world, with its combination of versatility, comfort and performance. The reasons are numerous. As an owner-operator vessel, the 38 Billfish offers simplicity and ease of maintenance, serving as a ready-to-go fishing machine that is equally adept at inshore and offshore excursions as well as for extended cruising with family and friends, thanks to its reliable inboard diesel power. It has a large cockpit as well as the speed and range to fish well offshore alongside much larger vessels, while also providing a fast, safe and comfortable ride in a variety of sea conditions.

Jarrett Bay Boatworks 64

North Carolina’s Jarrett Bay Boatworks latest build is the 64-foot beauty known as Rebelette . From its spacious tackle center to a one-of-a-kind walnut interior Hull No. 65 is a tailored fit, and it also has the latest in propulsion tech in the form of twin 2,025 hp Caterpillar C23B diesels. Taking full advantage of the Cat power, Rebelette cruises comfortably at 1,750 rpm while making an easy 31 knots. With 1,650 gallons of fuel, it has range to spare at this speed. Push this vessel up to 1,950 rpm to reach a fast cruising speed of 37 knots, which is impressive in any book. Wide-open throttle is 43 knots, fully loaded and ready to fish.

F&S Boatworks 82

F&S Boatworks’ stellar reputation stands tall in the world of custom sportfish builders so it’s no surprise that its latest creation, the 82-foot Special Situation , continues the tradition. One of the hallmarks of any F&S is the performance and Special Situation certainly doesn’t disappoint in that department. Powered by a pair of  2,600 hp MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines, at 2,000 rpm and 80 percent engine load, cruising speed is 36 knots, burning just south of 200 gallons per hour. Backing off to 1,650 rpm, it’s using 122 gph at 28 knots. At the other end of the spectrum, the top hop is more than 42 knots at 2,450 rpm.

Bayliss Boatworks 60

The 60-foot Sequentis was recently delivered to its new owners by the team at Bayliss Boatworks and it represents the first walkaround design for the storied North Carolina custom boatbuilder. Designed for live-bait tournament sailfishing in South Florida, Sequentis has 360-degree fishability as well as multiple livewells and pitch-bait tubes. And in a sport where having the ability to quickly relocate to a hot bite can mean the difference between finishing in first place or dead last, Sequentis is also fast. Powered by two MTU 12V2000 M96X diesel engines, it reportedly hit speeds of well over 42 knots during the initial sea trials in July 2024.

Winter Custom Yachts

Tim Winters and his team of boatbuilders at Winter Custom Yachts in North Carolina have truly optimized the walkaround concept, taking full advantage of its inherent versatility. Anglers are no longer confined to the limited space in the cockpit and have the freedom to fight fish all the way around the boat from bow to stern. Even just taking the family on a shorthanded picnic cruise is safer and easier since everyone has full access to the bow without having to navigate a slippery deck. Its latest 46-footer , Thumper , is one of the most versatile boats in this size range on the water today.

Hi All: I'm looking at a 61 Viking with C30 Cat engines. I've always liked the 61 Viking, but just didn't care for the MTU engines. There are a few with the C32 Cats, and I was wondering if the group had any opinion about the C30, good or bad? Do you think that would be a good engine in a 61 viking? Thanks

Capt Ralph

Capt Ralph Senior Member

I've always liked the 3412. I understand the C-30 is a real close cousin but can not tell you what those differences are. You should not be disappointed unless the dealer or installer messes up. My next personal thought is; Stay away from MTU.
Thanks. I know good things about the 3412s, but the C32s simply seem too big and loud on a 61. hence, the c30s seemed about right. I just didn't know if they had a history of problems or reputation of not being as good for some reason. appreciate your time in getting back to me. Jeff

Hi, No personal experience with that particular engine but have done a lot of miles with 3412e power. Here is an article I found on Google. Both are 2003 or 2004 engines not sure what year..big issue..smoke - JustAnswer
Great information and a big help. Thanks a lot. jeff

makes sense. i test drove a Sunny Briggs with the C32s and we couldn't even talk on the bridge due to the loudness. It had underwater exhaust and when you applied power it rose the back of the boat up out of the water. I just don't need to go 45 knots!! but more than any of that is the reliability/maintenance. I think I have a good idea that they are fine with that. there is a general consensus that the Cats are fine and the MTUs should be avoided. I sure appreciate your time and effort to help me.
You may be dealing with more boat & exhaust design than the engine making all the noise. Please run a C-32 in another ship (or more) before considering the loud operations an issue (between c-30 & 32). I'm death in one ear and can not hear in the other. But still, It's hard for me to tell the differences except near wot.
Hi, CAT's have had a few issues with some of their engines but they generally have stood behind their products whilst researching the best solution. The cant be said for MTU in my own experience.

The C30's are bulletproof. They were based off of the 12 cylinder block that the 3412's used and CAT has used since 1978. They're a good running engine and durable. The C32's had a lot of problems at first and are an entirely different block/configeration than the C30's.

rcrapps said: ↑ Cool, I did not know there was a major difference. I hope the problems were corrected? Still better than a MTU? A question that came up was noise, Would you think the installation would contribute to higher sound levels or could the C32 be a real noisy beast? Click to expand...

The biggest trade off to bigger engines is loosing ER space not fuel... As others mentioned if you can restrain yourself you re not going to burn more and the biggest benefit is that the engines will last much longer than the smaller ones as they won't work as hard For instance in the 70' Johnson I run, the 1400hp 2002 vintage 3412Es burn 80 to 85 Gph combined at 22kts but that's only a 60% load. I don't even know what speed / burn we d get at 80% as i never run there, probably 110 Gph for 25kts... But at 60% they will last a lot longer than the base 1100hp engines that will be run at 80% most of the time, more than making up the additional initial cost The down side is that any ER work feels like a 2 hour yoga session

And how about MAN should trust them?
walkinginshadow said: ↑ And how about MAN should trust them? Click to expand...
I like the MANs. Your decision to go with MANs should be carefully researched. You need a real MAN local shop (or two) for support. There just is not many out there and not all are good.

:)

Capt J said: ↑ In all the MAN boats I've run, I've never had a major stoppage or any major mechanical issue. They usually are a touch faster and more fuel efficient. Definately are quieter. Doing an oil change is a pain in the butt on them, with the dual upside down filter canisters per motor that are never in a easily accessible place. Same with the fuel filters. Parts are more expensive. However, I manage a yacht with Common rail 1100's and it's had a lot of electrical issues with them. The hour meter and alarm circuit boards have been changed, several sensors such as air charge temp sensor have been changed. The hour meter/alarm boards were a factory defect where if the board loses power for too long it cannot get the hours from the other side of the board where it is saved on permanent memory. Yet they've never been recalled. The port engine throws all kinds of false alarms (intermittently) which we haven't been able to figure out where it's coming from. I also hear the same issues from a lot of other people as well. Click to expand...
On one boat, we went for just a stb control board for run-away hour recording. "Known problem". The same f%^&*ng day the stb board was replaced, the port board was showing 25000 hours and climbing. What was that Star Trek quote; hours are minutes? The sensors are expensive and are the cause of a lot of false errors and problems. I have heard stories, but the blocks I service (4 crm 900s & 2, old V-10 1000's) are solid (knock on something good). Just wish there was a good area shop.

6 Boat Party Ideas You Have to Try

6 Boat Party Ideas You Have to Try

July 15, 2022 3:56 pm

While boating in and of itself is our favorite activity, there are plenty of ways to spruce up an already entertaining hobby. One of the best ways to add another level of fun to boating is to host a boat party! The options are endless, but here are some of the most creative ideas for your next shindig on the water, including some delectable treats to go along with all the festivities.

This article was featured in PartsVu Xchange .

Simply boating is a great deal of fun. But, sometimes we are all looking for some new ideas to host our friends and family. This article includes six fresh boat party ideas.

Also, boating safety is critically important, so, we’ve also included some safety tips for parties on a boat.

Boat Party Ideas

While the next party on your boat is only limited by your imagination, the following will hopefully stimulate some fresh ideas.

Boat Scavenger Hunt

Gather at least 2-3 friends who also own boats — the more the merrier. Create a list of items your guests must find or actions they must perform. For instance, maybe they are asked to secure a pint glass from your favorite marina bar, strike a silly pose (photographic evidence required) on specified docks, and other items and actions of this nature.

The first team to complete the list and make it back to home base wins! Cold drinks and snacks are a requirement of any scavenger hunt.

Murder Mystery Boat Party

This is a bit of a novel idea. Your players have been invited on a pleasure cruise by Captain Michael Von Ammon. The guest list includes a number of the Captain’s friends, family members, and business associates, as well as the crew of the Captain’s sixty-foot yacht, the  Elizabeth May . Everyone is expecting an evening cruise replete with dinner, drinks, and dancing – they aren’t expecting foul weather, the murder of the Captain, or a sudden shipwreck on a deserted island in the uncharted Caribbean.

You and your guests must work together to collect sufficient food and water, build an escape boat from the wreckage of the  Elizabeth May  and try to identify the murderer of Captain Von Ammon.  PlayingWithMurder.com—  a really fun website—  sells  downloadable game kits.

80s Music Party

Who doesn’t love 80’s music? Gather your friends and crank Micheal Jackson, Hall & Oats, Duran Duran, Prince, and the other musical marvels the 80’s ushered in. Want to go all out? Encourage your guests to don 80’s hair, turn up their collars and remember just how bad the fashion of the day truly was.

Ideas for Pontoon Boat Fun

Because they are roomy and versatile, there are so many ideas and opportunities for  pontoon boat fun . Deck your pontoon out with the latest and greatest  inflatables and towables,  gather your friends, and tie up to create a pontoon boat block party. Check out this article for more  pontoon boat fun  ideas.

Fire & Ice Party

How fun would it be to host friends on your party boat, grill delicious fish, vegetables, or your other favorite grille fare? Then, to top it off, serve delicious cocktails over ice. We particularly like Moscow Mules as a boat party cocktail because they are delicious, refreshing, and can be served in a copper cup as they were designed to be served in – a real serving mug while, of course, having no glass on board.

Moscow Mules.jpg

We like  Allrecipes’ Moscow Mule recipe  because it is simple, basic, and hits the spot. We happen to like Tito’s vodka, but use the brand of your choice. However, you do need to use ginger beer like Bundaberg, Fever Tree, Fentimans, Barritt’s and there are many other local and niche brands on the market. Ginger ale will not suffice as ginger beer is richer in flavor and is an upgrade that will be greatly appreciated. Moscow Mules can be served in plastic cups, but if you’re a traditionalist, pick up some copper mugs at your local housewares store.

So, let’s start talking about the fire portion of our fire & ice party. We love the  Magma Marine Kettle Grill . Its rotating design allows you to determine which direction you would like the lid to open when grilling in windy conditions. You obtain perfect results through the use of the adjustable height and the variable temperature control draft door assembly. Also, Magma’s large selection of mounting options and accessories allows you to customize your grill for your specific use.

Our blog post, “ Techniques for Grilling on the Water ,” offers our favorite grilled fish recipe.

Party Boat Safety Tips

Safe boat parties are fun boat parties. Here are some tips for keeping your friends and family safe on your party boat.

  • Don’t drink and boat. You can easily enough wind up in legal trouble. Worse yet, risk the safety of your passengers, yourself, and others on the water. Just like when driving your car, you need a designated driver.
  • Don’t bring glass drinkware on board. Everyone likes attractive drinkware, but it is a significant safety risk to bring glass aboard your boat. Fortunately, there are a lot of great options. Some of  the drinkware featured on this site  is particularly stunning.
  • Bring enough life jackets. The  US Coast Guard  requires boaters to have a  life jacket  on board for every passenger. Additionally, if there are children on board, make sure that you are familiar with your state and local requirements – most importantly, make decisions based on the kids’ swimming abilities.
  • Sun protection. The sun can be brutal and damaging if you will be out for extended periods of time.  Sun protective clothing  is highly recommended along with sunscreen on your face and other areas not covered by sun protective clothing.
  • Watch the weather. Review the weather forecast before you head out as  storms  can be quite dangerous. If unexpected bad weather occurs, make the right decision – your boat party might need to be cut a little short.
  • Know your boat’s capacity. Sometimes is hard to exclude people from your boat party – the more the merrier, right? However, your boat has a capacity limit, and don’t exceed it in terms of the number of passengers or weight.
  • Carry a first aid kit. Hopefully, your party goes off without a hitch. But, if an accident does happen, a  first aid kit  can save the day.
