First look: Sunreef 60 Eco

The new Sunreef 60 Eco has gone all-out in terms of solar power, which should help keep electric motors topped up for extensive adventuring

There’s a rapidly accelerating trend towards maximising the amount of solar power installed on cruising catamarans, which can be seen being taken up a step on the new Sunreef 60 Eco.

Given multihulls ‘ extensive deck areas this makes sense in many ways and obviates the need for a separate diesel generator on an increasing number of craft.

Sunreef has taken this a whole stage further with its latest 60ft sailing catamaran, the Sunreef 60 Eco which is equipped with integrated solar panels that are even built into the hull sides, as well as the superstructure and hardtop. In total up to 17kW of solar can be accommodated in this way. The solar panels were developed in-house and, although they are less than 1mm thick, the Polish company claims they provide a very high degree of resistance to shock and abrasion.

The boat has electric propulsion via twin 70kW electric motors, driven by lithium battery banks of 140-200kW capacity, depending on the option specified. These are sized to be able to run house loads continuously, even overnight, without recourse to the twin 80kW diesel generators that also serve as range extenders.

60 Sunreef Power Eco

Like all the other models in the range, the 60 Sunreef Power, which we got the chance to try out in 2021, is available in an Eco version, i.e. with electric motors and solar panels - including on the outer hull sides as an option. This forever green version was presented to the public for the first time at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Even though the 60 is the “smallest” powercat in the Polish shipyard's Power range, it already has all the attributes of an ultra-modern multiyacht. The highly-specialized lithium battery packs can power all of the yacht's components and appliances for more than 24 hours, including the air-conditioning. Owners have the option of choosing to apply wind turbines, advanced electric propulsion generated from the propeller, and/or customized solar panels made in-house at the shipyard.

The Sunreef 60, "FEEL THE BLUE" is the first to be completed and launched. Perfect for private luxury vacations on the water or to utilize as a yacht charter business, the Sunreef 60 certainly sets the standard in the sailing catamaran category. In this particular hull delivered, up to 10 guests are accommodated in 5 very spacious cabins that feature double beds, incredible storage, and bathrooms that are the size of guest cabins. Sunreef delivers 60 Power Eco to Fernando Alonso

The F1 star is full of praise for the 60 Sunreef Power Eco after taking delivery of the Polish builder’s smallest solar-electric powercat.

Fernando Alonso has taken delivery of the first 60 Sunreef Power Eco, having commissioned the solar-electric powercat in 2021 and joined Sunreef Yachts’ cast of ambassadors, which includes tennis legend Rafa Nadal, former F1 star Nico Rosberg and explorer Mike Horn.

Alonso, 42, ordered hull one of the 60 Sunreef Power Eco and the Aston Martin driver was closely involved in the build and customisation of his catamaran, paying numerous visits to the builder’s main shipyard in Gdansk on Poland’s north coast. The 60ft yacht has a beam of 35ft-plus beam, a vast aft cockpit with a swim platform and aft garage, a full-beam bow terrace and generous flybridge.

Following delivery, the record holder for most F1 races enjoyed a yachting holiday with friends and family on board his luxury Category A catamaran, which is fitted with Sunreef’s unique ‘solar skin’ system on the hulls, superstructure and hard top.

Featuring electric motors, an energy-saving air-conditioning system and a custom-engineered battery bank, the eco-friendly catamaran offers a continuous supply of clean power for a smooth e-motoring experience.

“ The 60 Sunreef Power Eco gave me exactly the yachting experience I was looking for. Long, fume-free and quiet cruises let you enjoy the seas on a whole new level. This yacht has some amazing technology that cannot be found anywhere else,” said Alonso, who recorded his 100 th F1 podium finish in this year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

“ On board, all that matters is peace of mind, fresh air and good company. Yachting should not be about ego. For me, it’s about sharing good moments and being respectful towards the environment.”

The 60 Sunreef Power Eco is the third powercat from the Eco range and follows the 80 Sunreef Power Eco and 70 Sunreef Power Eco models, which had world premieres at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, represented by hulls three and one respectively.

In late October, the 80 Sunreef Power Eco had its US debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show with the display of represented by hull two, Sol . Sunreef’s dealers in Asia include Hong Seh Marine in Thailand and Lee Marine in Thailand.

Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso on his Sunreef 60 Power Eco catamaran

Formula One driver Fernando Alonso tells BOAT International about his love of the water and decision to purchase a 60 Sunreef Power Eco catamaran, currently in build at Sunreef Yachts.

Was the sea a big part of your life growing up?

Absolutely. I need to have the sea in my life. I grew up in the north of Spain in Oviedo and every summer, or every day that I could, I went to the coast to enjoy the beach and the sea. Now I follow the coast when I choose where to live: I live in Dubai; I live in Monaco; I live in Spain.

What drew you to catamarans?

I discovered catamarans two years ago with Sunreef. It was a catamaran that was more than a catamaran – like a small villa on water. On a catamaran you have these very big spaces inside and compared to monohulls. I started chartering boats in summer in between races and at the beginning, I was just thinking of chartering the boat. Then recently I moved to Monaco, living on the coast again. I watch the port from my window every morning and started dreaming about having my own boat. 

What do you like best about spending time on the water?

I live with very high adrenaline on race days and I'm always in a Formula One car on the circuit or travelling around the world. When I spend time on the catamaran it is completely the opposite. I slow down my life and I go like in slow motion, so I can really enjoy every second of the day and every hour and every meal on board... and every sleep.

Why did you choose the Sunreef 60 Power Eco?

I chose the power version of the Sunreef 60. I do not plan at the moment to go very far from Monaco or very far from the Mediterranean. I will have always a limited number of people on board, only a few friends or family and the Sunreef 60 felt like a perfect size. On the Eco, there was no discussion for me. I think sustainability plays a big part in my values and my thoughts at the moment and I think it makes perfect sense with being in the water and being in the middle of the Mediterranean and taking care of that sea that we love.

What does your ideal day on a boat look like?

Not waking up too early. I like to sleep in the mornings, totally relax have a good breakfast and spend some time in the water. Then, a light lunch, because soon after I will probably get on some of the water toys and spend time playing around with different things. My ideal day ends with enjoying some music with friends and preparing dinner – ideally a BBQ or something on the flybridge.

Where will you take your new catamaran?

My first destinations this summer will be in the Med – South of France, Corsica, Sardinia – potentially Greece. That’s also the good thing about the solar panels on the Sunreef Eco line, you have this unlimited range.

Sunreef Yachts Debuts “Floating Mansion” 100 Power Supercat

Sunreef Yachts, the renowned Polish catamaran builder, debuted its latest masterpiece at the Cannes Yachting Festival: the 100 Sunreef Power luxury catamaran – it’s jaw-dropping.

The 100 Sunreef Power marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into the superyacht sector, offering a remarkable blend of space, luxury, and performance.

The 100 Sunreef Power showcases a vast main saloon that integrates the yacht’s expansive deck spaces, creating a harmonious flow between indoor and outdoor areas. The master suite comes complete with direct access to the bow terrace – and ocean views. Five additional guest staterooms ensure ample accommodation for family and friends.

One of the yacht’s most notable features is a partially enclosed flybridge, which houses a custom cigar lounge and 85-inch television. The 16m-wide walkaround beach club is another highlight, featuring foldout platforms and an invisible aft garage that provides easy access to water toys and diving equipment.

Powered by twin 1,300hp engines, the 100 Sunreef Power delivers reliable performance and an extended cruising range. The yacht’s catamaran design ensures smooth motion at sea, enhancing comfort during long voyages.

60 Power Eco Also Makes a Splash

In addition to the 100 Sunreef Power, the company also premiered the all-electric 60 Power Eco at Cannes. Like earlier Eco models, this smaller addition to the Eco range also offers the shipyard’s innovative solar power system with photovoltaic cells integrated into its hulls, superstructure, and flybridge hard top. This green-energy solution powers both the yacht’s propulsion and onboard appliances, offering a glimpse into the future of eco-friendly luxury yachting.

Sunreef Yachts also revealed plans for its flagship model in the Ultima catamaran range, the Ultima 111. This 33.8m yacht will be designed in collaboration with Dutch design agency Phathom Studio and built at the company’s facility in Ras al Khaimah, UAE.

NEW 60′ SUNREEF Catamaran

The new Sunreef 60 catamaran is inspired by the future, yet relies on past design principles of proper proportions, elegant lines and unsurpassed build quality. She embodies a completely fresh superstructure concept, a saloon layout plan with an outstanding potential for customization. The Sunreef 60 catamaran features a vast, central lounging space with panoramic views and endless layout possibilities by opening forward onto the bow terrace and aft into the spacious cockpit.

The new Sunreef 60 luxury catamaran is the larger sister of the Sunreef 50’ catamaran . She is an all-around sailing leisure yacht ideal for exclusive getaways, charter and transoceanic adventures. This model boasts a combination of exterior and interior areas easily flowing into one another. The transition from the cockpit into the salon is completely flush. A clever bridge deck and superstructure design allow for a superior level of comfort onboard whereas the generous teak use, high bulwarks and classy lines underscore her modern style with a classic edge.

The foredeck area benefits from a cozy lounge, well shielded from sun and wind. To the aft, the saloon merges with the generous cockpit extended with a large aft platform. All the areas combined form a universal, open environment where flexibility and freedom reign.

While housing the main helm, the 400 sqft flybridge is dedicated to leisure with more than enough space for movable furniture, a Jacuzzi, fully-equipped wet bar, a barbecue and large sun pads.

The hulls of the new Sunreef 60’ catamaran provide impressive volumes to set up a custom layout including airy, luxurious guest cabins and an opulent master suite with a walk-in dressing, desk, sofa, retractable TV and an immense bathroom. A perfect setting to unwind and relax after a long day in the sun.
