You can buy David Bowie's mega-yacht, but it'll cost you $7.28 million
A mega-yacht formerly owned by one of the greatest musical talents of all time, David Bowie , has been listed for sale with a USD $5.17 million ($7.28 million) asking price.
Built in 1977, Bowie owned the hulking vessel throughout the 1980s, using it to travel from country to country while on tour, as the Brit was famously terrified of flying for the first half of his life.
The Starman singer had an affinity for all things outer space, and it's thought that's why, while under Bowie's stewardship, the boat was named the Deneb Star.

Found in the constellation of Cygnus, the Deneb Star is the 19 brightest star in all of the night's sky.
It's believed Bowie off-loaded the ocean-traversing mansion following the conquering of his aerophobia, which was thought to occur at the end of the '80s.
Now named El Caran or The Face when translated from Spanish, the mega-yacht was completely refurbished in 2020, which included a respray and new teak deck.

Spanning nearly 40 metres in length, the Bennetti built watercraft features two engines producing 695 horsepower, which equates to a top speed of 12 knots and a total cruising range of 3000 nautical miles.
Features of the exceedingly opulent mode of transportation include a grand master suite, six guest rooms, high-speed internet access and an arresting sky lounge.
$7.28 million may seem like a preposterous amount of dough for most, but for the discerning (and well-heeled) Bowie megafan, this mega-yacht is surely a bargain.

Breaking news, sea oddity: david bowie’s mega-yacht lists for $5.17m.
Those looking to cruise the seas with the greatest of ease have a new option in their midst — one with rare celebrity pedigree.
A mega-yacht that once belonged to the late glam rock icon David Bowie is going up for sale, asking $5.17 million (sans spiders from Mars).
The vessel dates to 1977 — and Bowie owned it throughout the 1980s, according to his rep and longtime friend, Bill Zysblat.
Bowie, who passed away in 2016, famously had a fear of flying — admitting in an interview that his phobia led to several hit songs, including “Space Oddity.”
“It allows me to just write about space as opposed to going into it,” he said in a 2002 interview with “60 Minutes.”
Instead, he traveled across the seas from country to county on the yacht while touring. When he finally overcame that fear, he sold the yacht in the late ’80s. It has since had two different owners.
The yacht has been used actively during its own lifetime, sailing throughout the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
First known as Deneb Star, it later changed its name to El Caran. The six-stateroom boat was recently rented for $85,000 per week.
It was refitted in 2020 with some newer upgrades to include a fresh paint job and a new teak deck.
It was designed and built by Italian boatbuilding company, Benetti.
The interior of the yacht features a mahogany finish with paintings and art installations.
It can accommodate up to 12 guests with over six cabins — including a master suite, two VIP staterooms, one double cabin and two twin cabins.
Giulio Riggio at Fraser’s Palma office holds the listing.
Since the singer’s death in 2016 , sever other items previously belonging to him have come up for sale, which includes 400 artworks auctioned off from his personal collection (including pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Ettore Sottsass).
Meanwhile, his longtime New York City apartment he shared with his wife, supermodel Iman, sold last summer for $16.5 million after nearly five years on the market.

You Could Own David Bowie’s Custom Yacht for $5.1 Million
Since the death of the iconic British musician David Bowie in early 2016, numerous opportunities to own his appropriately decadent belongings have come up. The latest one is particularly luxe—his former yacht . The boat that the “Under Pressure” singer once owned has now been listed for sale with an asking price of roughly $5.1 million (€4,850,000), according to Boat International .
Built by Italian yard Benetti and delivered to Bowie in 1977, the 39 meter vessel has since seen many updates, including a refresh in 2020 that consisted of a paint job and the installation of a brand new teak deck. Originally named Deneb Star , the yacht now carries the name El Caran. The spacious mahogany interior contains six guest cabins, totalling in at room to sleep 12 guests total, plus five cabins available for seven total crew members. The full-beam primary suite is located on the main deck, with neon colored accent artwork and furniture betraying Bowie’s colorful sensibilities amidst the more classic wood finishings. Each guest room plus the primary suite is equipped with a TV, DVD player, and an ensuite bathroom.
While aboard, guests can dine in the indoor dining room, or outside on the main deck’s dining area that seats up to 10. Numerous distinct lounge areas are available, with a Bimini top offering shade on the foredeck, and the boat’s best ocean views on the upper deck.

Other items previously belonging to the trailblazing star that have come up for sale since his death include 400 artworks from his extensive personal collection (including pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Ettore Sottsass), which were auctioned off by Sotheby’s , and the New York City apartment he shared with his wife, supermodel Iman, which was listed for $6.5 millio n in early 2017.
A previous version of this article stated that David Bowie commissioned the yacht, which is incorrect.

A rarified piece of David Bowie’s legacy has come up for sale: the 39-metre motor yacht he commissioned in 1974.
Deneb Star was built by Italian boatyard Benetti and delivered to Bowie in 1977. The steel and aluminium vessel has since been renamed El Caran and is listed for sale by Giulio Riggio at Fraser’s Palma office for €4.85m .
El Caran has undergone several refits, most recently in 2020 when it was repainted and a new teak deck installed. But there are plenty of Bowie’s artistic flourishes from its Deneb days, including the surrealist painting hanging over the dining table.
Classic mahogany interiors accommodate six staterooms, including a full-beam master suite on the main deck. Below is a full-beam VIP stateroom and three twin cabins, and further accommodation for seven crew members across five cabins.
Bowie commissioned the yacht at a transitional time in his life and career. The performer famously had aviophobia – a fear of flying brought on by a premonition he had that he would die in a plane crash. From fall 1972 to spring 1977, Bowie didn’t fly at all.
But by 1973, Bowie’s superstar status in the USA and Japan meant he had to tour in support of his Aladdin Sane album. When the traditional rockstar jetliner was suggested, Bowie replied: ‘Can’t do it. If it flies, it’s death.’
Instead, he made an entire loop of the Earth crossing the Atlantic via the SS Canberra and touring across the USA by bus and train. After the climax of the US Tour in March 1973, Bowie sailed to Japan on the SS Oronsay – a smaller and older P&O ship than the SS Canberra, which they nicknamed ‘Old Rancid’.
Spider from Mars band member Geoff MacCormack accompanied Bowie on tour and recalled: ‘The SS Canberra towered above us like some giant wedding cake and this mode of travel made what was for me a fantasy journey even more surreal. Cruising to New York took about a week. The journey was long and languorous; suffice to say, after a while afternoon tea was an occasion to be looked forward to.’
After Japan, Bowie took a boat to Vladivostok where he boarded the Trans Siberian rail to Moscow, then another train to Paris. He’d travelled the world by land and sea.
By the time his own yacht was delivered in 1977, Bowie had relocated to Berlin to escape the drug addiction he had developed during his Diamond Dogs Tour . He also resumed plane travel, and his era of nostalgic nautical travel was over.

Own A Part Of Music History With This Luxury Yacht Once Owned By David Bowie
A massive 128-foot yacht created by the boatbuilding company Benetti in 1977 is currently for sale for $5.17 million, as per New York Post . Though, its giant presence isn't the only interesting thing about the yacht — it used to be owned by David Bowie in the 1980s.
While touring country to country, Bowie often opted to travel by sea instead of sky. The "Space Oddity" singer had an extreme fear of flying for a long time which led him to seek other forms of travel such as by yacht or railway. In the late 80s, Bowie was said to have overcome his fear which is why he sold the yacht. Afterward, the ship previously named the Deneb Star changed hands twice before adopting its new name, El Caran. In 2020, the El Caran sustained a major refitting where it received a new paint job, a teak deck, at-anchor stabilizers, and more, according to Fraser Yachts .
Three beautiful decks ready for use
The mega-yacht, previously owned by Bowie, sports three separate decks to enjoy the salty air and warm sun. The sun deck, which is on the highest level of the ship, supports several lounging chairs for getting your tan on. The deck, albeit small, is perfect for hosting a small group of people while sipping on a fruity drink while watching the sun set over the sea. Down a short flight of stairs, you'll find the upper deck, also known as the bridge deck. This exposed area features a white sofa that lines the stern, a table, and even more lounge chairs. In one photo on the listing by Fraser Yachts , you'll notice a large red covering stretched out above the deck to shield passengers from the heat. The cover is apparently removable, so you can decide if you want shade or full sun.
The main deck dining area is located directly beneath the upper deck, so it is protected by its floor. On the main deck, guests will find a long dining table set for six that can be accessed from the living area or stairs on the upper deck. In the promotional video for the ship, the international yacht brokerage shows off some of the many Mediterranean-style meals prepared by the onboard chef that may be served for lunch and dinner on the El Caran.
Staterooms for you and all your guests
The luxury yacht currently includes six staterooms that were all updated in 2020. On the main deck are the owners' cabin and the studio cabin. Both rooms use fresh interiors, as per Penta , featuring mahogany finishes that make up much of the storage solutions. They include large windows that can be dimmed with custom blinds. At the head of each bed is an art piece that reflects fun pops of color seen all over the boat. Ensuite bathrooms are also available in the rooms. They come outfitted with large walk-in showers and monogrammed towels set out by the onboard staff.
The lower deck accommodates four more guest cabins. Two are VIP cabins that are significantly smaller than the suites on the main deck. However, they look just as comfortable. Similar art adorns their walls, and guests can find ample storage space built under the beds . The other two are twin cabins. They make great use of space with two twin beds lining the walls. With storage options between and underneath the beds, two children or younger guests would fit quite comfortably during a voyage on this yacht.
Gorgeous getaways from the heat
Most of the indoor entertainment space is located on the main deck. Here, guests will enjoy the sofa area and indoor dining area. Both rooms are beautifully decorated with modern touches that also nod to Bowie's history with the ship. Pops of color coming from the chairs, throw pillows, and art are reminiscent of 80s style. Though, they are muted by the dark mahogany interior, white couches, and white dining chairs, as shown on the listing by Fraser Yachts . These spaces are essential for windy or cold weather when you wouldn't want to stand out on any of the decks.
On the bridge deck, near the owner's suite and the wheelhouse, is the bar and a lounge area. The lounge area includes a comfortable seating area and several large windows to let light in while allowing guests to peer out at the ocean while staying indoors. It's a great space to grab a drink during the heat of the afternoon to cool off and relax before your next tanning session.

Luxury yacht once owned by David Bowie on sale for £4.85million

A luxurious yacht previously owned by the legendary David Bowie has gone on sale.
The vessel, which has its own VIP stateroom and patio deck, was first acquired by him in 1977. It was then refurbished in 2020 and is now up for grabs for fans looking to own some of his estate.
And how much will it set you back? An eye-watering £4.85million.
Measuring at just over 39 metres, the motor yacht was formerly known as the Deneb Star but it is now called the El Caran.
The boat is built from steel and aluminium and was created by the Italian shipyard Benetti.
Custom-designed for Bowie, the Deneb Star has been fitted with some incredible luxury features including a glorious sundeck.
The mahogany finished yacht can host 12 guests in six cabins, including a full-beam master suite on the main deck.

Below, there is the VIP stateroom and three spectacular twin cabins. All have TV screens, DVD players and en-suite bathrooms with bathtubs.
As Bowie had an eccentric style, these elements are visible in the interiors, including the surrealist painting that hangs by the dining table and the retro-style furniture in the cabins.
The main deck, which can host 10 guests, has a bright and airy al fresco dining area, ideal for dinner parties.
There are also plenty of additional socialising areas and a built-in shelter provided by a Bimini top.
The upper deck offers further seating alongside panoramic views of the ocean.
The yacht has twin 824hp MTU engines give it a range of 3,800 nautical miles and a top speed of 12 knots.
It has been listed by Giulio Riggio at Fraser’s Palma office.

Oh! You pretty thing
Inside the classic 39m benetti formerly owned by david bowie….
David Bowie's former 39m Benetti superyacht El Caran has been listed for sale with Fraser Yachts. Although the yacht underwent an extensive refit in 2020, the yacht still retains the essence of the legendary singer and songwriter. Under the ownership of Bowie, the vessel was originally named Deneb Star - after one of the most luminous stars in the Milky Way galaxy. Giulio Riggio has listed the yacht with an asking price of €4,850,000 with the VAT paid.
David Bowie famously had a fear of flying after being a passenger on a stormy flight in the early 70s. He once said in an interview that his reluctance to get in an aeroplane "allows me to just write about space as opposed to going into it." The superyacht ultimately allowed Bowie to travel across the Atlantic in style to go on tour and visit the United States. It wasn’t until later in his life, when he overcame his fear of flying, that he eventually and reluctantly sold the yacht. It has since had two different owners and has spent time as a charter yacht in the Mediterranean.
The interior of the yacht features a mahogany finish as well as stunning paintings and art installations. The yacht can accommodate 12 guests in six cabins with a full-beam master suite on the main deck and a full-beam VIP stateroom along with three twin cabins on the deck below. According to Fraser, all cabins have television screens, DVD players and en suite bathrooms with bathtubs. The yacht has been built with seven crew in mind.

The yacht is maintained to RINA commercial class and has been successfully chartering in the Mediterranean for many years, boasting a number of significant repeat clients. The twin 824hp MTU engines give the superyacht a range of 3,800 nautical miles and a top speed of just 12 knots.
Speaking with SuperyachtNews , Riggio said, “This would be a really great yacht for perhaps a couple who are settled down and want to enjoy luxury and fine dining. If you are an experienced yacht owner and you enjoy the simple aspects of yachting then this is a great option.” The yacht exudes class and style, and its ownership history has certainly helped in terms of attention from the media.
When asked how famous celebrity associations affect the brokering of a deal for a superyacht, Riggio revealed that there is only a very small impact, “Obviously it is a nice little piece of history and information and it drums up a little bit of extra interest when you are speaking to potential clients. But at the end of the day, it mostly comes down to the specs, the design and the performance of the vessel rather than who has owned it in the past.”

The luxe 128-footer, which Fraser yachts has just listed for $5 million, exudes Italian style and just the right amount of glitz and glamor to please the legendary musician who died of cancer in 2016.
Built by Benetti back in 1977, the vessel was christened Deneb Star but now goes by the name of El Caran . Sporting a sleek, steel displacement hull and a classic Benetti silhouette, the vessel was treated to a meticulous refit in 2020 that saw a fresh paint job and new teak deck installed.

The interior, which was revamped by Simona Lamboglia Architecture and Interior Design, showcases bright, modern décor and furnishings throughout. There’s an abundance of pop art and hot-pink accents that contrast the traditional fixtures and elegant wood paneling. The spacious layout comprises six generous staterooms that can collectively sleep up to 12 seafarers, along with five crew cabins that can accommodate seven crew.
Outside, meanwhile, the decks offer plenty of space for alfresco dining and entertaining. The long “canoe stern,” in particular, houses a number of sunbeds and lounges that are ripe for relaxation, while the upper deck offers panoramic views of the ocean.
As for grunt, El Caran is equipped with twin 824 hp MTU engines that give her a top speed of 12 knots, a cruising speed of 10 knots and a range of 3,800 nautical miles. She’s also been fitted with stabilizers for added comfort at sea.
Despite its age, El Caran still has plenty of appeal, too. The superyacht, which is maintained to RINA commercial class, has been offered for charter in the Mediterranean for many summers and attracted many repeat clients.
El Caran has been listed for sale for $5 million (€4.85 million) by Giulio Riggio at Fraser’s Palma office.
