When you’re Magic Johnson, a simple European getaway just won’t do. You have to take in the continent by boat.
The NBA legend and entrepreneur is currently enjoying some time cruising around the Mediterranean onboard the Aquila , a 281-foot superyacht . And the Lakers great and his wife Cookie have invited along a star-studded group of pals, including Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J, to join in on the experience.

Magic, who TMZ says likes to spend a month across the Atlantic each summer, has gone all out for his latest vacation. The Aquila is the largest boat built in the US since the 1930s, according to its Burgess charter listing . Originally developed by Derektor in 2010, the vessel sailed under the name Cakewalk until it was sold and completely refitted in 2016. The renewed, four-deck yacht has even more space from which its passengers can gaze upon cities like Corfu, Capri and Cervo, and is perfect for entertaining a one very large man and his family and friends.
The yacht has a massive owner’s suite with a massage room, salon and private deck that overlooks the bow, along with six other spacious guest suites. There’s also a cinema room, gym, two more massage rooms. When it comes time for entertaining, there’s a saloon called the London Bar, a beach club at sea level and a dedicated party deck with its own DJ booth, AV system and smoke machine. The interior’s pièce de résistance, though, is a 36-foot “waterfall” chandelier that stretches from the sun deck to the lower deck.

Other amenities on the Aquila include a limousine tender, a deck jacuzzi, aquapark, trampoline and all the water toys you could ever want (think: jet skis, kayaks and wakeboards). The yacht, which has a 50-foot beam, is also manned by a crew of 28. It’s powered by two 3,306 hp MTU engine and has a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.
As you may have guessed, a boat like this doesn’t come cheap. The superyacht is reportedly worth over $150 million . Johnson is only chartering the vessel, but even that will set him back nearly €1 million (or about $1.2 million) a week, according to the listing. One thing is clear: No. 32 loves spending time on the Aquila . In fact, this isn’t his first time he’s rented the vessel. He also took it out on vacation back in 2019, according to TMZ . And honestly, who can blame him?

Magic Johnson’s Children Join Him On Yacht Vacation In Europe: ‘Nothing Like Quality Family Time’
Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie, are enjoying a lavish vacation in the Mediterranean Sea. For the occasion, the couple rented the Lürssen PHOENIX 2, a 295-foot yacht inspired by Art Deco style from 1930s New York.
The couple embarked on the charter boat earlier this month, kicking off their tour across the region. They stopped by several coastal towns, including Antibes in France, as well as Italy’s Portofino, Capri, Positano and Nerano.
Johnson has been sharing updates of his vacation with his fans via social media. On Sunday, the Hall of Famer shared family photographs shot on deck – sharing that his children joined him on the yacht.
“Cookie and I are excited to have our kids Andre, EJ, Elisa, our daughter-in-law Lisa and grandkids Gigi and Avery join us on the yacht!” he captioned a post .
Johnson has been exploring local cuisine and shared snapshots of himself enjoying the region’s fine dining, including freshly caught sea bass, pasta, pizza and Positano lemons.
“It’s nothing like quality family time and Cookie and I are just thrilled that God blessed us with an amazing and awesome family,” he wrote in an Instagram post .
Last week, Johnson invited several familiar faces onto the yacht, which included Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya Jackson, Judge Greg and Linda Mathis, John and Vicki Palmer, as well as Yvette and Michael Jordan, whom he referred to as the “greatest basketball player to ever live.”
Some of the couples indulged in a 1970s-themed party onboard. Guests dressed in disco-inspired outfits, which included flared pants, bright patterns and oversized sunglasses.
“The other night, the Phoenix II crew did an amazing job of throwing us a 70s party! We all dressed up and had a blast!!” Johnson shared in an Instagram post .
They renamed the yacht the “soul boat” for the occasion.

Johnson, Jackson and a few of their close pals set sale yet again for their yearly European vacay earlier this month -- hitting the French Riviera this time -- and the "Pulp Fiction" star showed there's truly no expense spared on the getaway.
In photos that Jackson posted to his Instagram page Thursday morning ... you can see he got healing needles injected into his skin -- all while he was relaxing and soaking in rays on one of the boat's decks.
Samuel clearly knew the moment was one dripping with luxury -- 'cause he captioned one of the pics with the words, "Accu in da Sun!!"
"DAAYUUUM!!!!" he added.
The treatments didn't stop there, though ... he also got some cupping therapy done right on a lounge chair as well!!
Of course, the extravagant amenities shouldn't surprise anybody ... Johnson's been going all out for the summer trip for nearly a decade.
This year's yacht is called "Phoenix 2" ... and the 296-footer comes with all of the expected bells and whistles -- including jacuzzis, a gym, an outdoor cinema, a swimming pool, and so much more.
Jackson's clearly been in awe of it -- and for good reason ... its price tag to rent for just one week is about $1.2 MILLION!!

The NBA Hall of Famer, 61, began his vacation with wife Cookie about a week ago, setting sail on a yacht off the coast of Corfu, Greece. The couple's friends Holly Robinson Peete and her husband Rodney Peete joined them on the island of Zakynthos soon after. "A beautiful day in Zakynthos, Greece overlooking the city with two of our best friends on this earth who we love dearly," Johnson captioned an Instagram photo of the foursome. "We visited St. Denis (Agios Dionisios) Church today, the largest church in Zakynthos Town. Saint Denis passed away at the age of 75 on December 17th, 1622 and the priests said a special prayer around his tomb." Since then, Johnson's party has grown to include LL Cool J and his wife Simone Smith, as well as Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson. Vanessa Bell Calloway and her husband Tony Calloway are also in attendance. The couples have sailed from Greece to Italy, visiting several locations including Capri, Sorrento, and Sardinia. On Tuesday, LL Cool J posted a video to Instagram showing off the exterior of the massive yacht the couples are traveling on. The bottom of the ship is open, as crew appears to be docking at Porto Cervo and unloading kayaks and jet skis for them to enjoy. The 281-foot Aquila yacht is the largest yacht to be built in the U.S. since the 1930s, according to Burgess , which specializes in the buying and selling of luxury boats. In addition to seven guest suites, the superyacht also features two massage rooms, a hair salon, a gym, and a full bar. In his Instagram video, LL Cool J also gives his followers a tour of the interior of the boat, including the deck, which is roughly 650 square feet. The dedicated party deck includes a DJ booth, AV system, smoke machine and a light show. The Aquila charters at a rate of around $1 million per week. In the winter, it sails the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Johnson has initiated an annual trip through the Mediterranean waters for the past several years. He also chartered the Aquila in 2019.
