Description

The Great Escape  is the sixth hull in the acclaimed Sanlorenzo 102’ Asymmetric series, delivered in June 2020 and now offered for sale on behalf of her original and most experienced owner. Boasting an above-the-standard build specification with over €1,600,000 spent on optional extras, this yacht presents in immaculate condition and has enormous appeal.

It is the second Sanlorenzo project ordered for this client and built under the close supervision of Camper & Nicholsons, together with the owner’s experienced Captain and independent surveyor.

The Great Escape  has only been lightly used privately with approximately 600 hours on her main engines. She features an interior design and exterior setup by H2 Yacht Design, developed by director Gianluca Sist, in close collaboration with the Sanlorenzo team.

Boarding the yacht on the main deck aft, you will be welcomed by an al fresco dining area which easily converts into a large daybed lounging pad. The entire aft deck is shaded by the overhang of the sundeck above and can be sheltered from the elements on the stern and privacy mesh screens. Moving forward into the main deck saloon through the automatic sliding glass doors, there is a day bar and buffet to starboard. The interior dining area faces a line of floor-to-ceiling windows, with a large seating area facing an 80” TV cinema screen. Also to starboard are a set of opening glass doors that lead to the side deck and the fold-out balcony.

The interior décor with its mix of coral tones on off-white and grey fabrics and white-lacquered furniture, coupled with brown leathers and bronze details in contrast with the stained oak parquet flooring and white oak ceiling provides a chic fresh Mediterranean atmosphere, which is found throughout the yacht’s interior and exterior.

The Great Escape’s  master cabin is located on the main deck forward, featuring a dedicated walk-in closet, a bathroom which benefits from underfloor heating, a steam room in the marble shower and a separate water closet. In the full-beam cabin, there is a large opening window above the work desk, a king-size bed and a direct access to the owner’s private foredeck terrace which boasts a U-shaped seating or dining area along with a large sunpad over the bow. The entire foredeck area can be sheltered from the sun by awnings which are supported on stainless steel poles.

Stairs down to the four very well-appointed and generous guest cabins are located in the foyer forward of the main saloon which also has a guest powder room. There are two VIP’s aft, each with ample wardrobe and storage spaces, a vanity desk, and luxurious en suite bathrooms with separate water closets. The starboard forward cabin has been appointed to accommodate up to four bunk beds, also referred to as the children’s cabin. The port forward cabin is convertible from a twin with extra pullman into a further VIP cabin with sliding bed system. These two forward cabin’s bathrooms have been installed with a toilet and a bidet. All guest bathrooms have underfloor heating.

The owners and all guest cabins along with the main saloon are equipped with independent home cinema, which is linked to the entertainment system. The domotics throughout the boat, from television, music, lighting to curtains and blinds etc. are all touch-controlled from individual iPads found in each zone.

The galley is on main deck and is fully equipped with top-of-the-range appliances. There is a dedicated crew access to the deck, a staircase down to the crew quarters which accommodates up to five in three cabins, all with their own bathrooms.

The sundeck is home to an expansive custom-made teak-cushioned sunpad, a sofa with loose chairs arrangement and a large round dining table which comfortably seats 10 people, all sheltered by a hard top. There is a large buffet to port with fridge, ice maker and a sink. Forward of the sundeck, there is the helm station. There are opening doors on both sides of the sundeck, giving direct access and walkthrough to yet another large sunbathing area forward of the wheelhouse and walkway down to the foredeck.

The Great Escape  carries a 520 Williams Sportjet tender on the aft bathing platform and a three-seater Seadoo GTX 200 jet ski in the aft garage, which is also home to the numerous watersports equipment and toys.

Powered by twin MTU 16V2000 M96 engines of 2423HP each,  The Great Escape  reaches top speeds in the region of 27 knots. She is also equipped with at-anchor and underway stabilisers, as well as bow and stern thrusters.

THE GREAT ESCAPE Enquiry

'The architect must be humble and set as a goal the appreciation for the client’s history and only then will he succeed in creating that affinity with his “mentor”. Knowing who the client is creates a continuity which allows the designer to interpret and express in the product the firm’s culture and identity. Design plays a significant and strategic role in seeking and maintaining the corporate identity and is not produced to be an aesthetic embellishment, but as a productive force capable of coordinating all the other elements contributing to the design, structure and the realization of a product.' - Founders of Zuccon International Project: Giovanni Zuccon; Paola Galeazzi

The Most Expensive Superyacht in the World

When it comes to superyachts, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, certainly knows how to make a statement.

His luxury vessel, the 463-foot Al Mirqab, holds the title of the world’s most expensive superyacht.

Built in 2008 by German shipbuilder Peters Werft, this impressive yacht is complete with 10 luxurious cabins, a conference room, cinema, and all the amenities one would expect from a vessel of this magnitude.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos all own luxurious vessels.

Bezos yacht, the aptly named The Flying Fox, is one of the longest superyachts in the world at a staggering 414 feet in length.

How Much Do Superyachts Cost?

the great escape yacht owner

When it comes to superyachts, the sky is the limit when it comes to cost.

These luxury vessels come with hefty price tags that can range from anywhere between $30 million to over $400 million.

So, if youre in the market for a superyacht, youre looking at an investment that could easily break the bank.

The cost of a superyacht is driven by a variety of factors, including size, amenities, and customization.

Generally, the larger the yacht, the more expensive it will be.

Superyachts typically range in size from 100 feet to over 200 feet, and they can be as wide as 40 feet.

The bigger the yacht, the more luxurious features and amenities it will have.

Amenities also play a significant role in the cost of a superyacht.

While some owners prefer to keep their yachts out of the public eye, others have made headlines with their extensive amenities.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, the sky is the limit when it comes to customizing a superyacht.

The more amenities a superyacht has, the more expensive it will be.

Finally, customization is another major factor that will drive up the cost of a superyacht.

Many luxury vessels have custom-designed interiors that are tailored to the owners tastes.

From custom furniture and artwork to lighting and audio systems, the cost of a superyacht can quickly escalate depending on the level of customization.

In short, the cost of a superyacht can vary widely depending on its size, amenities, and customization.

While some may be able to get away with spending a few million dollars, others may end up spending hundreds of millions of dollars on their dream yacht.

No matter what your budget is, its important to do your research and find out exactly what youre getting for your money before signing on the dotted line.

Keeping Superyachts Out of the Public Eye

When it comes to owning a superyacht, some owners prefer to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

Understandably, these individuals are concerned with privacy and discretion, and therefore tend to take measures to ensure their yachts are not visible to outsiders.

For instance, some superyacht owners opt to keep their vessels in private marinas, away from the public areas of larger ports.

Additionally, some yacht owners may choose to hire security guards to patrol and protect their vessels while they are moored or sailing.

In addition to physical security, some superyacht owners also use technology to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

For example, a yacht owner may choose to install a satellite-based communications system that allows them to keep their vessel completely off-radar.

This system works by bouncing signals off satellites rather than transmitting them, making it virtually impossible for anyone to track the yachts movements.

Finally, some superyacht owners also choose to limit the number of people who have access to their vessels.

For instance, the owner may only allow family members and close friends to board the yacht.

Additionally, the owner may choose to employ a limited number of staff to help maintain the vessel and keep it running smoothly.

These individuals may be required to sign non-disclosure agreements to ensure they do not disclose any information about the yacht or its owner.

Overall, while some superyacht owners may choose to keep their vessels out of the public eye, there are still plenty of other ways to show off the opulence associated with owning a superyacht.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, there are many luxurious amenities that can make a superyacht the envy of any jet setter.

Final Thoughts

Superyachts are a symbol of luxury and status, and the list of yacht owners reads like a who’s who of billionaires.

From the Emir of Qatar’s world-record breaking $400 million yacht to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s vessel with a helicopter pad and on-board spa, the amenities of these luxury vessels are truly stunning.

With prices ranging from $30 million to over $400 million, owning a superyacht is an expensive endeavor.

Whether you’re looking to purchase one or just curious to learn more about the owners and their amenities, this guide will provide you with all the information you need to stay up to date with the superyacht scene.

SUPERYACHT LIFE

The Great Escape

The idea of carpe diem – seizing the day – has never had more resonance. It is perhaps one reason for a growing boom in yacht sales as people look to embrace the sheer pleasure of being on the ocean after a torrid year.

As the fresh blossom of spring yields to the warm blue of early summer, it is starting to feel like we might finally be slowly emerging from the frustrations and horrors of the past year. While things are still a long way from normal, those lockdown dreams of open air, sparkling azure water, gentle ocean breezes and the sun on our faces are starting to feel within reach once again. Indeed, the latest figures from the yacht market suggest that more people than ever before are craving that seaborne escape – sales through the end of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 in the superyacht sector, for example, have broken records. The first three months of 2021 have seen 133 brokerage sales of yachts above 24 metres – a massive 46 per cent increase over the same period in 2020, according to BOAT Pro. Critically, it appears that a lot of those sales are being driven by first-time buyers. But what has suddenly led to this renewed thirst for the ocean?

The obvious assumption would be that yachting has afforded a degree of escape in relative safety amid the pandemic, and that this, in turn, has fuelled sales. As Rob McCallum – founding partner of EYOS Expeditions – explains, with considerable planning some guests have been able to enjoy time on the water even as international travel has proven complicated. “In the beginning, even flying privately, it was very difficult,” he says. “But we’ve managed to keep things going throughout with, for example, our work with DSSV (deep submersible support vessel) Pressure Drop , which has been working in the western Pacific. We’ve had to do 14-day quarantines, but the guests are allowed to do that on the vessel. So people fly in and are met by an agent, and then they’re taken by special vehicle to the dock and get directly on the vessel, doing the same in reverse on their return.”

The Great Escape

However, this perception of a perfect escape that keeps you, your family and friends protected in a self-contained ‘bubble’ might not be the main driver of the surging demand. “For sure, there are a lot of people who have been feeling frustrated over the past 12 months have not been able to move freely, and that has been one catalyst for people stepping forward,” begins Ian Sherwood, a yacht broker with internationally renowned brokerage firm Burgess . “In particular I think there are a lot more first-time buyers at the moment – perhaps those who before were long-term charterers who are taking those first steps into ownership. There are a lot of charter bookings for 2021 that were rescheduled from 2020, meaning some of the charter boats are already very busy, but there’s still uncertainty about 2021 and on top of all that some charter boats may be stuck in the wrong regions which means there is even less availability. I think that has driven a lot of charterers to say, ‘we can’t do what we want to do so maybe being an owner is the answer as we can drive the calendar and know that the boat is always available.”

Of course, this surge to the sea presents interesting problems in itself. While most builders were quick to implement new working practices at the start of the pandemic that not only protected their workforces but also allowed them to keep on top of their pre-pandemic build schedules, a rise in demand naturally is putting pressure on the market. “This, perhaps, is the very tail-end of the 2008 global financial crisis, as the after-effect of that was a dip in production, and subsequently yacht deliveries between 2013 to 2015,” Sherwood explains. “That means there are now fewer five-year-old boats around.”

The Great Escape

There does remain an increasing appeal of yachting as a safe haven escape, but again there are other facets of the past year that are driving interest. “There are very few vacations that are as COVID-19 secure as being on a private yacht – you can fly in privately to a yacht where the crew have been health-screened and pre-quarantined, and there are not many options that can offer that low level of risk or exposure to the virus,” Sherwood offers. “And then there’s the fact that we are becoming more flexible in the wider world, that people are more accepting that we don’t need to be behind a desk, or at least not the desk in our usual office space. A lot of our clients are asking about that – connectivity and office space on board is a big request. The ability to work remotely from a yacht offers a different option to people.”

But fundamentally, perhaps there is an even greater reason or a greater imperative to why so many people have sought yachting – and yachts – as an escape this past year. It is less to do with being the only option, and more to do with a renewed sense of life and a reordering of priorities – a surge of seizing the day, if you will. “I think really it comes down to just why wouldn’t you do your thing?” Sherwood concludes. “After the last 12 months and everything we’ve gone through, if you have the ability to own or to charter a yacht – of any size – then why on earth aren’t you doing it? It’s the perfect time to take the plunge.”
