Updated on: August 27, 2024 / 7:00 AM EDT / CBS Philadelphia
HARVEY CEDARS, N.J. (CBS) -- A young woman died over the weekend after she was hit by a boat propeller off of Long Beach Island, New Jersey State Police said Monday.
According to the department, 18-year-old Zeina Mahafzah, of Wayne, New Jersey, was on a raft being pulled by a boat on Sunday, Aug. 25 when she was hit by the propeller as she tried to get back on the vessel.
NJ State Police said she suffered "fatal injuries" as a result of the impact, which happened just off Sunset Park in the Harvey Cedars Borough.
On Monday, the Harvey Cedars Police Department said on Facebook they were working with New Jersey State Police on the investigation, and asked people to "keep the family and community in your thoughts and prayers."
The fatal incident remains under investigation, according to NJ State Police.

Johnson Weekender 18
Johnson Weekender 18 is a 18 ′ 2 ″ / 5.5 m monohull sailboat designed by William Cook and built by Johnson Boat Works starting in 1986.
Rig and Sails
Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
- LWL: Waterline length in feet
Comfort Ratio
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
- LOA: Length overall in feet
- Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
Capsize Screening Formula
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

‘Deadpool 3’ Rolls Over ‘Blink Twice,’ ‘The Crow’ at Box Office With $18 Million
Marvel film retakes No. 1 in its fifth weekend while the Amazon MGM thriller and Lionsgate remake open below $10 million
The final weeks of the summer are bringing the typical slowdown for the box office, as Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” has retaken the No. 1 spot from fellow Disney release “Alien: Romulus” while new offerings like Amazon MGM’s “Blink Twice” and Lionsgate’s “The Crow” are sliding below holdovers from earlier in August.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” leads the charts with $18.3 million in its fifth weekend, bringing its total to $577 million domestic and $1.21 billion worldwide. “Alien: Romulus” is just behind with $16.2 million. While that’s a 61% drop from its opening weekend, the film now has a total $72.6 million domestic and $225.4 million worldwide, meaning that “Romulus” will pass the theatrical total of its 2017 predecessor, “Alien: Covenant” in the coming days.
“Blink Twice” came in fourth on the charts this weekend with $7.3 million from 3,063 theaters, sitting behind the $11.8 million third weekend of “It Ends With Us,” which now has a $120 million domestic total.
Directed by Zoe Kravitz, “Blink Twice” was fairly well received by critics with a 79% Rotten Tomatoes score , but audiences were somewhat less enthused with a B- on CinemaScore. While not a very strong start, “Blink Twice” has a low break-even point, carrying a budget of just $20 million before marketing costs.
On the other hand, “The Crow” is looking far worse with an opening weekend of just $4.6 million from 2,752 theaters while carrying a reported budget of $50 million. While also receiving a B- on CinemaScore, the gory remake of the 90s gothic superhero film was panned by critics with a 20% RT score.
The one silver lining for Lionsgate is that it is not on the hook for that production budget, as it only paid a $10 million distribution fee plus marketing costs for the film.
But the poor start of “The Crow” continues what has been a rough August for Lionsgate, as its other big release, “Borderlands,” has grossed just $15.1 million through three weekends. In addition, the studio was criticized after it was revealed that a new trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming film “Megalopolis” had used fake pull quotes of negative reviews for the director’s past hit films that were AI-generated, leading the studio to pull the trailer and cut ties with the marketing consultant behind the trailer.
The other new release of the weekend is Sony/Affirm’s faith-based film “The Forge,” which opened to $6.6 million from 1,818 theaters. As is typical for the genre, the drama earned an A+ from its core evangelical audience on CinemaScore and will turn a modest profit against its $5 million budget.
Among holdovers, Universal’s “Twisters” will cross the $250 million domestic mark in the coming days as it added $6.2 million in its sixth weekend. Fathom/Laika’s 15th anniversary re-release of “Coraline” was extended to a second weekend and added $5 million, bringing the film’s re-release total to a very impressive $24 million, a record for Fathom.
Finally, Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” has passed another box office milestone after three months in theaters: $1 billion in overseas grosses. With $1.64 billion grossed worldwide, it is $14 million away from passing the 2019 “Lion King” remake and becoming the highest grossing animated film of any kind.

Johnson 18 weekender
- Add to quote
I've been looking to switch to a trailerable ballasted keelboat from my current boat; wayfarer 16. There's currently a 1985 Johnson 18 weekender listed for sale in my area but I'm not finding much info available on these boats. Can anyone tell me; are these boats realitivly stable, self righting boats with a self bailing cockpit? What is their true displacement and do they have a removable ballast? Do they all have a shoal-keel/swing down centerboard configuration similar to the precision 18? Any info you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks
That's a photo of the Johnson 18, not the Johnson 18 weekender. They're two completely different boats.
Yes, a different boat indeed... Looks pretty nice, actually. I'd say the cockpit will be self bailing and there's enough 'keel' there that it should have some initial stability. Nice big cockpit and tight overnight accommodation... good for short term 'camper' cruising. Have you compared to others like the Siren 17, or the smaller Precisions etc?
A precision 18 initially would be my first choice but used ones aren't always available. The Johnson 18 weekender seems very compared and also maybe less expensive. Also, it seems they were manufactured here in Minnesota by Johnson Boat Works and I like the idea of having a locally manufactured boat. I did receive a response from the owner and he confirmed the cockpit is self bailing and there are two removable lead ballasts in the keel that weigh 100 lbs each.
This reply is late but did you buy the Johnson Weekender 18? I've had one for about 10 years and I would be interested in your opinions if you bought it.
I did buy the Johnson 18 and enjoyed throughout the season; it was kept moored on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. Are you in the Twin Cities area as well?; I believe about 25 of these boats were manufactured by White Bear Boatworks in the Twin Cities area in in 80's. From what I can tell the boat is very similar to a Precision 18 in terms of weight ballast and keel configuration. The one modification I plan on doing this year is having the mainsail trimmed so that it is shorter; the boom is on a sliding gooseneck and it sits head level with the main fully raised. I sailed it with a reef in so I could slide the boom above head level. It's been a fun boat.

What to know about Milwaukee Mile IndyCar weekend tickets, schedule, autographs, infield access
It’s been nine years since Indy cars last raced at the historic Milwaukee Mile.
The Milwaukee Hy-Vee 250s on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend will mark their return with the doubleheader promoted by State Fair Park with help from IndyCar. The races will take on extra significance as the third- and second-last races in the 2024 NTT IndyCar Series championship.
Given the time that has passed and changes in the interim, here’s a look at questions fans might have, whether they’ll be attending for the first time, have watched other series at the track in recent years or have been going to races at the Mile for decades.
What is the NTT IndyCar Series?
Open-wheel, open cockpit cars that race in the Indianapolis 500 have been run at other tracks around the country and internationally on large ovals such as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, street courses in cities such as Detroit, road courses such as Elkhart Lake’s Road America and short ovals such as the Milwaukee Mile. This season the schedule includes 17 races, including two doubleheader weekends, plus one non-points race.
The sport has had numerous governing bodies over the years. IndyCar is the latest. The NTT IndyCar series raced at the Mile 11 times from 2004-2015.
The sanctioning body also runs Indy NXT , a steppingstone series that runs in conjunction with most NTT IndyCar Series races.
What is the Milwaukee Mile?
Originally a private horse track, the oval on the grounds of State Fair Park held its first motor race in 1903, eight years before the first Indianapolis 500.
Since then it has hosted hundreds of national level races for open-wheel and stock cars, although its use has been sporadic over recent decades due to issues with promoters and sanctioning bodies.
The facility has undergone significant upgrades, with more than $8 million spent or committed from both public and private funds, primarily to prepare for IndyCar’s commitment for 2024 and ’25.
How much do tickets cost for IndyCar weekend at the Milwaukee Mile?
Reserved tickets range from $60 to $110 each race day, and a small number of general admission grandstand seats are available for $45.
Admission for practice Friday is $10. Weekend reserved seat passes range from $85 to $200 and weekend general admission is $85.
In reserved sections, children 2 and under may sit on a ticketholder’s lap for no additional charge. General admission grandstand tickets are free for those 11 and under with the purchase of an adult general admission ticket.
Prices do not include service fees. Tickets are available at the gate.
Weekend camping packages , which include a site, infield parking and four weekend passes, go for $515 plus fees.
Will the infield be open to fans for the Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250 races?
There is no infield-only general admission being sold, but anyone with a grandstand ticket will be able to watch from the infield.
Can fans get into the IndyCar paddock area at the Milwaukee Mile?
Garage passes are available for $20 Friday, $40 each Saturday and Sunday or $75 for the weekend. Admission is not included.
How much does parking cost on IndyCar weekend at the Milwaukee Mile?
Parking on the grounds is $10 Friday and $20 each Saturday and Sunday with infield parking $35 each Saturday and Sunday. Motorcycle parking is $8. Only credit cards are accepted.
Will the Milwaukee Hy-Vee 250s be sold out?
No. The seats are expected to be closer to half full. The weather forecast can have a substantial positive or negative effect on the number.
What’s the best way to watch a race at the Milwaukee Mile?
Higher typically is better when it comes to grandstand seats, given how the teams’ transporters can obscure the view of the back stretch. All 300 and 400 level grandstand seats require reserved tickets, while the 100 and 200 levels have some general admission seats.
Double fencing between the track and spectators in the infield has made watching from inside more difficult.
Can fans bring their own food and beverages into the Milwaukee Mile?
Carry-ins are not permitted in the grandstand, other than items for family care, such as water or snacks for children, or for medical reasons. Find a list of other restrictions on the State Fair Park website.
Numerous traditional State Fair vendors will be open on race days. Plans call for 14 permanent stands and five temporary stands to be open, along with four concession stands on the upper concourse offering food, as well as three beverage-only stands on the ground level.
What has been done to address entry issues?
Entrances have been reconfigured and will operate much as they do during the Fair, with admission booths and security screening separated and with more lanes, a State Fair Park representative said, after backups were prevalent on the 2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series/ARCA race day.
Attendees of the NASCAR and ARCA races Sunday reported a much smoother experience.
What is the schedule for IndyCar weekend at the Mile?
The lone NTT IndyCar Series practice session of the weekend is scheduled for 2:35-5 p.m. Friday. Qualifying is at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, and the races are scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Indy NXT, the only support series, is on track for practice from 1:30-2:15 p.m. Friday, qualifies at noon Saturday and races at 2:50 p.m. Saturday.
Will drivers be available for autographs?
Autograph sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the American Legion area on the south end of of Central Mall in the free fan zone.
Is there other entertainment scheduled for the State Fair Park grounds on IndyCar race weekend?
Concerts are scheduled for the Bank Five Nine Amphitheater each day with Ian Munsick at 7 p.m. Friday, Addiction at 11 a.m. Saturday, Quiet Riot at 7 p.m. Saturday and The Playlist at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Additionally, the Bud Pavilion will host the Cheap Shots at 6:30 p.m. Friday; the Blue Moon Tavern at the Park has Road Trip at 7 p.m. Saturday, and Leff’s Miller Lite Sports Bar & Grill has Phil Nordby at 2 p.m. Saturday and Patrick Murphy at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
All are free to the public.
Are practice, qualifying and the races on TV, streaming or radio?
The Saturday race will be seen on NBC’s Peacock streaming service, beginning at 5 p.m. Then the Sunday race is scheduled for USA cable and Peacock, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Practice Friday and qualifying Saturday are to be on Peacock.
Also, WOKY (AM-920) is scheduled to carry the race broadcasts on radio.
Who are the NTT IndyCar Series drivers to watch at the Milwaukee Mile?
Will Power is making a run at a second championship in three years, coming to Milwaukee off a dominant performance Sunday at Portland. The 43-year-old Australian leads the series with three victories – including the second race of the Iowa Speedway doubleheader – and is second in the championship, 54 points behind Alex Palou. That’s about one race’s worth. Power is one of four active, full-time divers to have raced in the Mile’s most recent IndyCar event in 2015 and won from the pole in 2014.
Alex Palou comes in with the points lead, but he’ll have to win out – two at Milwaukee and the finale at Nashville Superspeedway – to match his total of five victories from last season when he won his second title. Palou has won 11 races since joining the series in 2020 but none on an oval. He finished third and second in the Iowa Speedway doubleheader this year.
Josef Newgarden is another of those drivers who raced previously at the Mile. Sixteen of his 31 victories have come on ovals, including the most recent eight. An early-season penalty has prevented Newgarden from being a player in the championship. With four of the final five races on ovals – he won the first of those two weeks ago at World Wide Technology Raceway – he’ll stay front of mind until the end of the season.
Three-time Australian Supercar champion Scott McLaughlin picked up his first oval victory this year at Iowa and was second two weeks ago at WWTR. In 10 starts at those two tracks, McLaughlin has finished worse than fifth just once.

Harris and Walz Venture Into Less-Friendly Terrain to Court Pennsylvania Voters
The Democratic presidential ticket went to the crucial swing state on Sunday to visit areas that are competitive and somewhat more conservative.

Before their convention this week that will signal the final sprint to November, Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, headed out on a brief bus tour on Sunday to fire up voters in perhaps the most crucial battleground state in the 2024 election.
As they toured western Pennsylvania, their play for support beyond the state’s more liberal cities was apparent at the team’s first stop, a field office in Rochester, Pa., in the largely conservative Beaver County: Ms. Harris picked up a volunteer’s cellphone to speak with a resident from Erie, a northwestern city in one of the state’s swingiest counties, which Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 but Joseph R. Biden Jr. won four years later.
“I love Erie,” Ms. Harris said. “At some point we’ll get to Erie.”
Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz were joined on the outing by their spouses, Doug Emhoff and Gwen Walz, traveling in two new campaign buses from the Pittsburgh airport, where they arrived on Air Force Two to greet a small group of supporters.
The Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas are the two main drivers of Democratic support in Pennsylvania, a state whose 19 electoral votes could decide the presidency. Recent polling shows a neck-and-neck race there between Ms. Harris and former President Donald J. Trump, with some surveys showing Ms. Harris gaining a narrow edge recently.
Mr. Trump is also increasing his presence in Pennsylvania: On Saturday he held a rally in Wilkes-Barre and another is set in York on Monday, while Senator JD Vance of Ohio, his running mate, campaigns in Philadelphia.
Both candidates have used their trips in the state to make attacks.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters outside the Rochester campaign office on Sunday, Ms. Harris appeared to suggest that Mr. Trump was a “coward” — just a day after he had called her a “radical” and a “lunatic” in Wilkes-Barre.
“Over the last several years there’s been this kind of perversion that has taken place, I think, which is to suggest that the measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you beat down,” Ms. Harris said — though she did not name Mr. Trump. “Anybody who’s about beating down other people is a coward.”
President Biden often preferred to campaign in Philadelphia, by far the state’s largest metro area. The city is easily reached from Washington and close to his home state of Delaware, nestled in friendly territory surrounded by counties he carried in 2020 .
Outside Allegheny County, where Pittsburgh sits, western Pennsylvania is less hospitable to Democrats, and Ms. Harris’s visit there suggests she may branch out more than Mr. Biden did.
“God bless them, they need to,” Nancy Cannon, a retired teacher who showed up at the Pittsburgh airport, said of the campaign’s planned visits. She described a landscape of Trump supporters, where she knew of Democrats who were afraid to put out their own lawn signs. “Maybe they would feel more supported,” she said, if Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz showed up.
Ms. Cannon said Ms. Harris’s swift ascent to the top of the Democratic ticket had given a jolt of energy to her family and friends. “I love Joe. But I am happier to see a younger person. I feel like this is an Obama moment.”
The trip points to the Democratic hopes that Mr. Walz can help the party reach working-class voters outside the big cities. The suburbs and small towns surrounding Pittsburgh resemble areas in Minnesota where Mr. Walz has performed well in his previous races.
One campaign stop on Sunday was also a clear effort to tap into Mr. Walz’s personal history: a football practice at Aliquippa High School in a former steel town with many Black residents that has struggled economically for decades. Mr. Walz’s own experience as a high school football coach has been a touchstone of the campaign so far, with Ms. Harris occasionally referring to him as “Coach Walz.”
Mr. Walz told the team he “remembered every single call” from his team’s state football championship. He and Ms. Harris were joined at the event by Jerome Bettis, the Hall of Fame running back who won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Bettis, nicknamed The Bus, was a surprise, if appropriately named, addition to the Harris-Walz motor coach tour, which also made short stops at a nearby firehouse, a Sheetz gas station and Primanti Bros., a beloved chain of sandwich shops founded in Pittsburgh.
“The way you win elections in Pennsylvania is literally going everywhere,” said Lt. Gov. Austin Davis of Pennsylvania, a Democrat who is from the Pittsburgh area. “Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, but all the small communities in between.”
Mr. Davis also said that Ms. Harris would find a welcome audience in the working-class region for the economic agenda she rolled out last week that focused on lowering the costs of everyday life and cutting taxes for working families.
Conor Lamb, a Democrat who once represented a congressional district outside Pittsburgh, said Mr. Biden had become well known to many Pennsylvania voters, thanks to his decades of service as a senator in neighboring Delaware, an advantage Ms. Harris does not possess.
Mr. Lamb said that the bus tour reflected the fact that Democrats had learned their lesson from Mrs. Clinton losing the state after focusing most of her campaign on the major cities.
“You can’t just do Philly and Pittsburgh and rely on social media,” Mr. Lamb said.
And he agreed that Ms. Harris’s economic plans would be popular in places like Rochester, a small town once known for its glassmaking factories that sits in his old district.
“Some of the things that she laid out in that speech — the child tax credit, extending health care subsidies — all that kind of stuff is just universal,” Mr. Lamb said. “That should do as well in Rochester as it does in the heart of the city of Pittsburgh. And I’ve felt in the past that Democrats were a little bit afraid to go on the offense in those areas.”

An 18-year-old was fatally struck by a boat propeller’s blade in Ocean County over the weekend, officials said Monday.
Zeina Mahafzah, of Wayne, was on a raft being pulled by a boat in the waters off Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.
Sunset Park is on the bay side of Harvey Cedars, which is located on the northern section of Long Beach Island.
“While attempting to board the vessel, she was struck by the vessel’s propeller,” police said.
The incident remains under investigation, police said. No further information was immediately available.
On Sunday, Harvey Cedars police said they were investigating a “tragic boating accident” in the waters off Long Beach Island.
“As the investigation is in its preliminary stages, we ask that you keep the family and community in your thoughts and prayers,” police said in a Facebook post Sunday.
Mahafzah graduated from Wayne Hills High School, Wayne Township Superintendent Mark Toback said.
“We have been in contact with the family and are respecting their wishes, so we have no comment at this time,” he said.

Travis kelce flies out of rhode island solo after star-studded weekend at taylor swift’s mansion.
Travis Kelce said farewell to his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, following a star-studded weekend at the singer-songwriter’s $17-million Rhode Island mansion .
After spending two days on the sprawling estate , a solo Kelce was photographed boarding a Dassault Falcon — the same type of private jet Swift owns — around midnight Monday.
In photos obtained by the Daily Mail , the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was seen dressed casually in a long-sleeved white shirt, matching baseball cap, gray shorts and sneakers.
He reportedly shook hands with airport staffers as he made his way onto the plane and was followed by his security, who carried his luggage.
According to the outlet, the NFL star, 34, tried to keep a low profile by having cars block the view of the aircraft.
Kelce is expected to attend the Kansas City Sports Awards on Tuesday, where he will be honored as the Polsinelli Sportsman of the Year.
It’s unclear whether Swift, also 34, will make the two-hour flight to accompany the athlete to the function; however, she does have the time after wrapping the European leg of her Eras Tour last week.
Meanwhile, Daily Mail reported that Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, and his wife, Kylie Kelce — who were spotted at Swift’s vacation home over the weekend — flew out of Rhode Island, headed toward their home state of Delaware, Sunday evening.
On Saturday, the Grammy winner threw a pool party that was attended by Travis, Jason, Kylie, one of the couple’s three kids, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who brought one of his two children, Bradley Cooper, the actor’s daughter, Lea De Seine , Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
Mahomes’ pregnant wife , Brittany Mahomes , was also reportedly present.
It’s possible Gigi Hadid was there, too, as she was snapped walking along the deck of Swift’s 5.23-acre property on Sunday.
The model and Cooper went public with their relationship in January, and they have been going strong ever since .
As for Lively and Reynolds — who were photographed kissing outside the 11,000-square-foot estate — it marked the couple’s first public sighting since the actress’ “It Ends With Us” drama and “rude” behavior in past interviews began dominating headlines.

Exterior design
Length and beam on the waterline have been extended as far as possible to make the Oceanis 38 quick to cut through the water, while increasing stability. She offers high-performance and habitability second to none on this size of cruiser.
Interior design
Almost everything is possible inside the Oceanis 38. There is wide scope for different combinations in organizing the interior spaces and woodwork ambiances. The choice of a separate shower compartment is popular in the three cabin version. A unique feature on this size of cruiser, the fore cabin’s bed head faces in the same direction as the boat.
Open sailing
The Oceanis 38 rethinks the use of the boat, leaving the choice of its initial layout to the owner, while maintaining the potential to change arrangements at a later date. With the Daysailer, Weekender or Cruise, there are three ways to reorganize life on board the same boat.
Designed like a floating loft, this version of the Oceanis 38 does away with interior bulkheads in favour of a single room. The view is unobstructed and there is a stunning feeling of space. With equipment focussing on the essential, aft space for storage and an open cockpit, the Daysailer is open to everything.
Whether she has a two or three cabin plan, the Weekender version of the Oceanis 38 offers the greatest evolving potential over time and is the yacht that offers the greatest choice of layout: open or closed cabins, separate shower, fitted galley, extra inside/outside table, helmsman's seats, etc.
More conventional, the Cruiser version of the Oceanis 38 is equipped with a large galley facing the saloon and a bathroom with separate shower. It offers a choice between two or three fitted cabins. With the potential to evolve, the bulkhead can be removed from the fore cabin of this version to return that loft feeling.

Notes. The WEEKENDER model has a slightly larger sail area than the DAYSAILER. Self-bailing cockpit. Also a cuddy cabin with v-berth and two quarter berths. With nearly 2000 built, this was Cape Dory's most successful model.

A precision 18 initially would be my first choice but used ones aren't always available. The Johnson 18 weekender seems very compared and also maybe less expensive. the new Hunter 18 replaces the Hunter 170, which for several years was a mainstay in Hunter's line of small daysailers. Like the 170, the 18 can serve as both an easy-to-manage family daysailer and as a lively performance boat for those with more experience. At a glance the two boats look quite similar, sporting open transoms, centerboards and small sprayhoods forward.
