Manila Yacht Club

Manila Yacht Club is the only member-owned yacht club in Manila Philippines and the oldest yacht club in all of Asia. The Manila Yacht Club was established in 1927, but its history dates back to an affluent time when our first members were the officers and men of  James C. Rockwell, Joseph A. Thomas, Aubrey P. Ames, Stewart A. Taite and A.S. Heyward.

Manila Yacht Club

Posted in Manila on October 13, 2010

Conceived as one of the oldest yacht clubs in Asia, the Manila Yacht Club (MYC) is one of the few organized yacht clubs found in the Philippines . It is based in Manila , exclusively for members and they are situated in Manila Bay where sunset is a perfect view during fine weather conditions.

Because the Philippines’ has 7,107 islands, yachting in this archipelago may be one of the main reasons the Manila Yacht Club was set-up. The club coordinates many international and regional competitions and assists in other related events. The Manila Yacht Club members often join in yacht racing events both in and out of the country. This includes the China Sea Race which was started by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in 1962, the King’s Cup of Thailand and Rajah Muda of Singapore among many other regattas. The Manila Yacht Club also joined the Presidents Cup Regatta which is known as a major event in the whole Philippines, held after Easter. This eagerly anticipated event began in 1993 as the Philippine Easter Regatta and came to be known as it is today when former President Fidel V. Ramos requested the Manila Yacht Club to hold an international regatta during APEC Summit held in the country in 1997. From then on, the event was renamed as the President’s Cup Regatta. The next Presidents Cup will be held in Boracay .

Manila Yacht Club

The Manila Yacht Club is the Philippines’ prime yacht club which owes its strong reputation to its rich historic past, exciting present and promising future. On January 20, 1927, five yachtsmen gathered at the Polo Club which was then situated beside Manila Bay and signed their names on the By-laws (made since 1926) of the Manila Yacht Club. James C. Rockwell, Joseph A. Thomas, Aubrey P. Ames, Stewart A. Tait, and A. S. Heyward affixed their signatures on the document, making them as the first few members of the club.

In about 1933 to 1934, the Philippine Navy Patrol moved its office from Canacao Bay in Cavite to Manila Bay which was then solely occupied by the Manila Yacht Club and caused minor conflict between the two entities. The Philippine Navy Patrol occupied the area near the club and moved the latter’s clubhouse in a nearby location. On December 28, 1941 before the Japanese Marine Detachment, the Manila Yacht Club suffered on what would have been its “last day”. In 1945, with the liberation of Manila, the Manila Yacht Club started to reconstruct its clubhouse and other facilities. On April 1, 1947, the Manila Yacht Club officially re-opened using the Quonset hut as a Clubhouse.

Manila Yacht Club is one of the many yachting hub in Southeast Asia. It is committed to the promotion of sailing as a sport. The club entices both sightseers and hobbyists to join them. They hold its racing season from September to May every year. Some of them offer free and paid ride to locals and foreigners, cruising along Manila Bay by afternoon until night.

Hi Peter, I suggest you locate the websites of and contact MYC, SBYC (Subic Bay Yacht Club) and PGYC (Puerto Galera Yacht Club – talk to Peter Stevens) to get more info. Take a look at the locations on Google Earth also. Are you planning to park your yacht in Manila Bay waters or are you expecting to move around a lot on weekends or do you expect lots of active sailing/cruising regattas in a year? There are other yacht clubs in Cebu, etc. Best to come visit the YCs and chat with members to see if the place/company suits your needs. MYC does have good maintenance facilities, is located in MLA, has great food, etc but other places have cleaner water or are based in lovely white sand edged islands. Good luck! – Cherrie @pinoyboats

Manila Yacht Club

The Manila Yacht Club (MYC) is a member-only yacht club based in Manila, Philippines, and located in Manila Bay. The club is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Asia.

The club is located in one of the major yachting hubs of Southeast Asia, the Philippines, consisting of over 7,100 Islands.

The club organizes numerous competitions internationally and regionally. It also co-organizes events. Its members frequently join major international as well as Philippine yacht racing events. This list includes the China Sea Race, begun by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in 1962. The other Asian regattas that MYC sailors join include the King's Cup of Thailand and Rajah Muda of Singapore.

The MYC also participates in annual "Presidents Cup Regatta", a major Philippine sailing event that spans the entire country. The Current Presidents Cup will be held in Boracay.

Through the efforts and the passion of sailing, five devoted yachtsmen, James C. Rockwell, Joseph A. Thomas, Aubrey P. Ames, Stewart E. Tait, A.S. Heyward, the first by-laws of the Club were signed on January 20, 1927. The Club was established to encourage and develop boating throughout the country, The club also strived to teach fair play, and to teach people about yachting, camaraderie and good sportsmanship.

With a rich history of over 75 years, there is no doubt that the Club also went through a lot of rough sailing in the past. The pleasure of sailing was stopped in December 1941 when World War II began. The Americans confiscated the boats docked at the MYC basin for fear that the Japanese soldiers might use them to launch an attack on Corregidor. The boats were sunk and others were set on fire. Sailing then came to a complete halt from 1941-1945 when the United States and the Philippine Commonwealth troops arrived to liberate Manila. The US Army occupied the Club and in March 1947, MYC was able to secure the property where it stands today. Women also started to become members of the Club during that time.

The Club began to join some international sailing competitions in the 1960s. The Philippines was the first Asian country to participate in the Olympics yachting events. Also during that time, eighty percent of club membership was composed of Americans and other expatriates.

In the 1970s, expat membership declined and they began to leave the country due to the dictatorship of the Martial Law years. Membership picked up again during the mid-1980s until the early 1990s. But sailing went down in 1995 because of the Asian Economic Crisis.

Since the Philippines is considered to be prone to typhoons and devastating storms, the boat owners had problems in maintenance and safety of their yachts. The solution came about in 1998 when the height of the seawall was increased to protect the boats anchored in the basin of the Manila Yacht Club. The following year, another major project materialized with the launching of the floating berths which serves as a place of protection for the boats in the basin. From then on, maintenance and accessibility became easier.

In 1998, the Club became a proprietary corporation when members became shareholders. Member can sell their shares or pass it on to their heirs.

The Manila Yacht Club is also affiliated with the Philippine Sailing Association and aims to race competitively in local and international sailing events.

Getting around the Manila City

Manila is a major city in the Philippines. Tourists can go around Manila in many options. Buses, FXs, jeepneys, taxis, tricycles, and pedicabs are available as a mode of transportations in the city. The city is also serviced by the Manila Light Rail Transit System, popularly known as LRT, as distinct from the MRT in other parts of Metro Manila.

Calesas are still used in the streets of Binondo and Intramuros, but mostly for tourists. Which mode of for-hire used depends upon the distance to be traveled, the cost, and the width of the streets.

8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In

Yacht Clubs and Marinas

FoodfindsAsia.com | 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In | Filipinos’ history as a maritime people date back to prehistoric times. In fact, the Philippines’ basic sociopolitical unit today, the barangay, traces its etymological origins to the balangay , the ancient outrigger boats that were used by precolonial Filipino communities to explore and conquer islands this side of the Pacific. As a people belonging to a seafaring culture, it’s no wonder that modern Filipinos are taking a retrospective look at their glorious past as Austronesian mariners and are developing a renewed love for the ocean and marinas as present-day yachtsmen.

Today, Philippine marinas look to accommodate more and more yachts and other pleasure watercrafts as the years go by. In 2017, an ASEAN Briefing op-ed piece named the Philippines as a country with high potential in yacht industry growth. The natural beauty of the Philippine islands and its fantastic bays, combined with a growing interest in leisurely sea travel, can explain the spike in yachting activities throughout the country.

Are you part of the demographic that’s become enamored of the yachting lifestyle? Do you want to know where in the country you can berth your watercraft? Leading sailboat and motorboat authority Europa Yachts is happy to enter the conversation, and recommends the following locations for discovering the Philippines through yachting. Here is a short list of clubs and marinas in the country, organized by island region.

Manila Yacht Club and Marina, Manila, Metro Manila

Established in 1927, the Manila Yacht Club and Marina is one of the oldest yacht clubs in all of Asia, and is nestled in the scenic Manila Bay. It is also near other well-known landmarks in the city, such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the headquarters of the Philippine Navy, and the US Embassy. Facilities in the marina include a launching ramp and a fueling center, and the club itself is host to a restaurant and gorgeous function rooms. The Manila Yacht Club only welcomes visitors who arrive by boat, and it charges an initial security deposit of USD 750 upon arrival. Club membership is mandatory for medium and long-term mooring of boats.

Subic Bay Yacht Club, Zambales

The Subic Bay Yacht Club, which was founded in 1998, upholds itself as the country’s premier yacht club. It operates in the deepest bay in the country, and can host vessels well beyond 50 meters in length. Already benefitting from the innate beauty of the Zambales mountains surrounding it, the club hosts a number of other attractions, including its luxury accommodations, swimming pools, and its own movie theater, bowling alley, and nightclub. Those who venture outside of the club’s premises can also shop for well-priced imported goods at the Subic Freeport Zone, engage in water sports , or sign up for diving excursions.

Punta Fuego Yacht Club, Batangas

Peaceful Punta Fuego is a mecca for those who love the sport of sailing. As per its official website, the Punta Fuego Yacht Club aims to serve “a dynamic and vibrant community of boat enthusiasts and yacht owners.” This it does by playing host to a diverse population of watercrafts, from large catamarans and mono-hull yachts to small boats. Non-members of the club may use the berths for up to 3 weeks, and can refuel at the marina’s fueling station. The yacht club offers other amenities such as locker rooms, shower rooms, Internet facilities, a chart room, and a restaurant called Barracuda Bar, which serves delicious fares. Outside of the yachting crowd, Punta Fuego Yacht Club also caters to those wishing to celebrate weddings, conferences, and corporate events in their opulent quarters.

Puerto Galera Yacht Club, Oriental Mindoro

Further south, yachtsmen may moor at the Puerto Galera Yacht Club in Oriental Mindoro, an island location that’s home to tourist attractions like the Sabang Wreck dive site, lively beachfront resorts, and the Malasimbo Music Festival. Puerto Galera Yacht Club has been in operation for almost thirty years and lends services such as refueling provisions and yacht repairs from its marina. Boat owners also enjoy optimal convenience if mooring here, as they can also shop for spare parts in the nearby Batangas port.

Busuanga Yacht Club, Puerta del Sol Bay Marina, Palawan

Beautiful Palawan is a bucket-list destination for many, especially those who dream of cruising its crystalline waters. Accommodating the yachting community in this island province is the Busuanga Yacht Club, which promises secure mooring amidst breathtaking white-sand beaches. Here, each vessel will benefit from a typhoon-safe harbor, easy refueling, and direct access to transportation hubs like the New Busuanga Airport. Adjoining this marina is the Puerta del Sol Bay Resort, which offers luxurious accommodations to visitors. When not atop the deck of a boat, travelers can also explore the lagoons and freshwater lakes of Coron, go shipwreck diving, or relax in the hot springs of Maquinit.

Iloilo Sailing Club, Arevelo, Iloilo City, Iloilo

Iloilo Province is home to some of the country’s most beautiful old-world architecture, a flourishing ecotourism industry, and delectably fresh seafood cuisine. What will round off an unforgettable visit to Iloilo, however, is an excursion to the Iloilo Sailing Club on a leisure watercraft. The club accepts visitors and encourages membership in the case of medium and long-stay mooring. It also hosts a number of amenities and activities, including a dinghy storage, a beach bar and restaurant, and classes for those who want to learn about sailing. In recent months, the Iloilo Sailing Club has also been a convenient meet-up point for big maritime events, such as the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta and the Seafarers’ Job Fair.

Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island, Cebu

The historic Mactan Island in Cebu was the site of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. Now known as a commercial hub that hosts a prolific furniture and musical instruments industries, Mactan is also the location of the Cebu Yacht Club, an institution that is beloved by the locals. Aside from being an ideal spot to restock on much-needed fuel and supplies, the Cebu Yacht Club is also a trusted club to commission for boat repairs. There’s a good vibe in this club for everybody, as it sports both luxury accommodations and a waterfront strip of restaurants that laid-back diners can frequent. MINDANAO

The Holiday Oceanview Marina is a major attraction of Samal Island in Davao del Norte Province, one that welcomes Filipino and foreign yachtsmen alike to moor within its premises. The space is quite roomy, in fact, with 56 berths that can fit vessels up to 15 meters in length. The club also has a boat ramp that can accommodate boats up to 18 meters in length. The well-guarded and weather-safe marina is a gateway to some of Mindanao’s finest attractions, such as the Pearl Farm, Hagimit Falls, and Giant Clam Sanctuary.

There’s no better way to discover the Philippines from end to end than getting onboard a seaworthy vessel and going on a long cruise, with stops in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Find a safe harbor in any of these major clubs and marinas, and participate in the renaissance of sailing in the Philippines.

Minnesota Yacht Club Festival in St. Paul (KSTP)

Almost a month after a successful event, the Minnesota Yacht Club has announced it will return for 2025.

After almost not having a festival in July, the Minnesota Yacht Clubs Festival already has a date for 2025 — July 18-20.

The festival’s inaugural date was 2024, which tens of thousands of people attended, many from across the Midwest. It featured large musical acts like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Offspring, Gwen Stefani and more.

According to the city of St. Paul, hotels in downtown St. Paul were booked solid during the festival, and bars and restaurants were busy, marking the event as a large success.

Tickets aren’t being sold for the event at this time, and no details have been shared about the lineup plans for 2025.

Updates for the festival can be found here .
