Rolls-Royce Reveals Unique Arcadia Droptail Roadster

The one-off commission, reportedly priced at $25m, looks like a superyacht inside and out.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has revealed its latest coachbuilt creation. Coined Arcadia, the new Droptail roadster is the third of four bespoke commissions, following La Rose Noire and Amethyst.

Each Droptail has reportedly cost $25m, for which each customer has been able to completely customize every aspect of the car’s interior and exterior. Rolls-Royce presented the new Arcadia Droptail to the mystery millionaire (or perhaps, billionaire) buyer at a private ceremony in Singapore .

For the rest of us, there are just some high-quality renderings to enjoy, detailing the ridiculous levels of craftsmanship and working hours that went into another stunning example of coachbuilding. More understated than previous iterations, Arcadia’s white exterior and wood-paneled interior lend it a distinct nautical look.

The understated style reflects the buyer’s personal tastes, who is said to have instilled their own “codes of luxury, defined by purity and subtle restraint,” into the car’s design.

It is a projection of an individual who values clarity and precision in all areas of their life – from their passion for fine cuisine, their highly curated personal and professional spaces and affinity with contemporary design. In capturing their spirit, we reveal a unique appreciation for simplicity, serenity, and beautifully restrained elegance.”

This is Rolls-Royce, of course, so take “restrained” with a heavy pinch of salt. For example, the exterior color is not just white. Designers fused the white paint with aluminum and glass particles, creating an effervescent shimmer as it drives past. The carbon fiber on the lower sections of the car also has a bespoke silver color, separating it from its two predecessors.

Inside, Rolls-Royce designed specific hues of tan and white leather for this car. While both colors will remain in the Rolls-Royce archive, the British marque won’t use them in another car other than one ordered by the client. The two-tone leather colors perfectly complement the wood detailing, selected to match the owner’s favorite coffee table.

With the client intent on using the car internationally, Rolls-Royce created its own lacquer that protects it from the vigours of humidity for a lifetime.

For this commission, Rolls-Royce also had to dip into the world of haute horology . The car’s clock is the most complex Rolls-Royce has ever conceived. It took clockmakers five months to construct following two years of development. The clock incorporates a geometric guilloché pattern in raw metal with 119 facets, including hours markers just 0.1mm thick.

A Clean Energy Powerhouse: The Digital I&C Systems Modernizing Nuclear

Reports: Rolls-Royce looks to sell SMR subsidiary

Engineering company Rolls-Royce is considering the sale of its small modular reactor subsidiary to inject new funding into the company’s overall business plans, the Sunday Telegraph first reported Aug. 3.

The company is looking to raise hundreds of millions, with a current valuation of £1.6 billion ($2 billion), as it sets its sights on being the first to deploy SMRs in the United Kingdom. Rolls-Royce recently cleared step two of the U.K.’s generic design assessment (GDA)—a competition launched in 2023 to bring SMRs on line in the 2030s.

However, funds at Rolls-Royce SMR are due to run out in early 2025, so Rolls-Royce and its other investors need to decide between putting more money in themselves, selling equity to third-party investors, or both, according to the Sunday Telegraph .

A closer look: The Rolls-Royce SMR design has the capacity to generate 470 megawatts and serve as a baseload power source for decades.

“Each Rolls-Royce SMR ‘factory-built’ nuclear power plant will provide enough clean, affordable, electricity to power a million homes for 60-plus years—delivering energy security, enabling net zero, and making a transformational contribution to the U.K. economy,” said Helena Perry , Rolls-Royce SMR’s safety and regulatory affairs director.

The SMR requires a site that is one-tenth the size of what’s needed for a large-scale nuclear plant, and its pieces would be manufactured in a factory and delivered to the site via truck, train, or barge. Rolls-Royce announced in May its plan to set up a multimillion facility in Sheffield, England, to manufacture and test SMR prototypes.

A reported £280 million has already been poured into Rolls-Royce SMR by investors, including Rolls-Royce itself, as well as BNF Resources, Constellation, and the Qatar Investment Authority.

In addition, £210 million of grant funding has been provided by the U.K. government.

Generic Design Assessment: Nuclear regulators—the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the Environment Agency, and Natural Resources Wales (NRW)—launched the U.K.’s SMR program last year.

GDA is a three-step process—initiation, fundamental assessment, and detailed assessment—performed to gauge the safety, security, and environmental protection aspects of a nuclear plant design. The ONR examines the safety and security of the technology while the other regulatory bodies focus on the environment and radioactive waste.

The hope is that GDA will culminate in a design acceptance confirmation from the ONR and a statement of design acceptability from the Environment Agency.

In July, the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) submitted the United Kingdom’s first-ever application for a justification decision for the Rolls-Royce SMR design. While this is a step in the overall process, the NIA’s approval would be based on high-level evaluation and not apply to a specific project.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Scintilla Private Collection

The latest Private Collection from Rolls-Royce is inspired by the Spirit of Ectsasy itself. Only 10 examples will be made, and each is the result of painstaking effort and exquisite craftsmanship.

Range Rover SV Carmel Edition

The new Range Rover SV Carmel Edition was revealed at the luxurious Range Rover House, and its stunning bespoke design celebrates the natural beauty of the Pebble Beach area. With only 17 examples, the exclusivity of the new Range Rover SV Carmel Edition includes bespoke design and custom golf clubs.

Kalmar revealed the new 9X9, which it calls “the world’s first retro hypercar” with as much as 930 horsepower, and it did so at Monterey Car Week with the help of Canepa , its exclusive U.S. dealer.

Known for its unique retro-inspired performance machines, RUF took its automotive excellence off the beaten path, revealing the new RUF Rodeo with classic-inspired looks and all-terrain capabilities.

Touring Superleggera Veloce12

A stalwart of classic Italian automotive design, Touring Superleggera revealed the new coachbuilt Veloce12, with a timeless aesthetic and a dedication to preserving cherished aspects of automotive excellence like a V12 engine and a manual transmission.

Maserati GT2 Stradale

The MC20-based Maserati GT2 race car has heralded Maserati’s return to GT racing, and the new Maserati GT2 Stradale is its roadgoing version, bridging the gap between the gorgeous supercar and the purpose-built racing machine.

Bugatti Bolide 100th Anniversary Edition

This new one-off from Bugatti is one of just 40 examples of the track-only Bolide, the most extreme and racing-focused Bugatti W16 hypercar. It celebrates 100 years since the debut of a racing legend it’s inspired by: the Bugatti Type 35.

Unfortunately, we no longer offer a public tour programme. Should this change in the future, we will update our website.

Regrettably, due to the volume of requests we receive for work experience placements from the children of our employees, we are unable to offer a placement at this time.

I need information about my classic Rolls-Royce (built prior to 2003)

All motorcars built before 2003 (both Rolls-Royce and Bentley) and their related history are dealt with by the Bentley organisation. The Bentley Heritage website could be a useful source of information for you.

We receive many requests for sponsorship, funding and donations, and whilst we are a keen supporter of local charities sadly we cannot support every worthy cause which is brought to our attention. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars selects a house charity each year to be our primary charitable focus, for 2019 the charity we have chosen is Home-Start Arun.

Home-Start Arun promotes the welfare of families in the Arun, Worthing and Adur District Council areas, to alleviate stress and conflict at home and prevent family crisis and breakdown.

Taking centre stage in the epicentre of luxury, Spectre is a prophecy fulfilled, a spirit electrified. The start of a bold new chapter for the House of Luxury, the introduction of Spectre marks the beginning of a new era for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in the region, as the marque prepares to build only electric cars by the end of 2030. Elevating the electric motor car experience to new heights, Spectre has been conceived within the philosophy which infuses the marque, embodying the famous words of co-founder Sir Henry Royce: ‘strive for perfection in everything you do’.

In 1900, Rolls-Royce co-founder, Charles Rolls, prophesied an electric future for the motor car and more than 120 years later, the prophecy of its founding father has been fulfilled. Spearheaded by Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös’ promise to bring a fully-electric Rolls-Royce to market within the current decade, Charles Rolls’ prophecy and Torsten Müller-Ötvös’ promise led to a historic moment: the birth of Spectre – the most powerful Rolls-Royce ever.

Spectre is the next generation of Rolls-Royce, setting a new precedent in the creation of an entirely original class of motor car, the Ultra-Luxury Electric Super Coupé.  A spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupé, Spectre is an emblem of artisanship in perfect harmony with electric technology, its visionary design reinvents timeless iconography.

Taking design inspiration from many sources including contemporary luxury yacht concepts,  as the streamlined Spirit of Ecstasy leads Spectre forward with command and poise, this electric masterpiece acknowledges its forebear, the Phantom Coupé, with its generous proportions and split headlight treatment – a contemporary Rolls-Royce design tenet. Spectre’s uncompromising character is articulated through lines of sculptural purity. Its straightened form is exciting in every sense, the fender line evokes dynamism, while the waft line sharply tapers at the front creating the illusion of motion even when the car is still.

Stepping into Spectre also evokes feelings of wonder. Engulfed in supple and inviting leather, the interior draws inspiration from the timeless mystique of the night sky. With an intricate show of shooting stars, the Starlight Headliner is spellbinding whilst the Illuminated Fascia mesmerises with over 5,500 stars, a feature which took over two years to develop. Additionally, for the first time on a series production Rolls-Royce, Starlight Doors incorporating 4,796 softly illuminated ‘stars’ are available. Each ‘star’ is positioned by hand, creating a subtle sense of motion within Spectre’s cabin.

Alongside the stunning illuminated surfaces, Spectre is equipped with a completely redesigned digital architecture of luxury named SPIRIT, presented in quintessential Rolls-Royce style. The digital extension of the Architecture of Luxury, SPIRIT sets a new precedent for how technology and luxury are married with automotive excellence, not only managing the motor car’s functions, but also seamlessly integrating into the marque’s Whispers application, allowing clients to interact with their car remotely, and receive live information curated by the marque’s luxury intelligence specialists.

The proportional demands of Spectre’s scale required Rolls-Royce to embolden its wheel strategy. Spectre is the first production two-door coupé to be equipped with 23-inch wheels in almost one hundred years.
