Yacht Selection

Choosing the right yacht is an essential part of planning your Yacht Week Croatia adventure. The Yacht Week offers a range of different yachts to cater to various group sizes, budgets, and preferences.

When selecting a yacht, here are a few factors to consider:

1. Group Size: Determine the number of people in your crew. Yachts can accommodate different group sizes, from smaller yachts for intimate groups to larger yachts for bigger parties. Make sure the yacht has enough cabins and sleeping arrangements to comfortably accommodate everyone.

2. Yacht Type: Consider the type of yacht that suits your preferences. The Yacht Week offers a variety of options, including monohulls, catamarans, and luxury yachts. Monohulls offer a more traditional sailing experience, while catamarans provide spacious and stable platforms for socializing. Luxury yachts provide additional amenities and a higher level of comfort.

3. Amenities: Check the amenities available onboard the yacht. Some yachts offer additional features such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, swimming platforms, and water toys. These amenities can enhance your sailing experience and provide extra fun and convenience.

4. Budget: Set a budget for your yacht rental. Yachts range in price based on their size, age, and level of luxury. Consider the overall cost of the yacht rental, including fuel, provisioning, and any additional fees. It’s important to align your budget with the type and size of the yacht you choose.

5. Skipper or Bareboat: Decide whether you want to charter the yacht with a skipper or as a bareboat. Having a professional skipper onboard can provide peace of mind and let you fully enjoy the experience, especially if you’re not an experienced sailor. If you have the necessary qualifications and experience, you may opt for a bareboat charter and take the helm yourself.

6. Age and Condition: Take into consideration the age and condition of the yacht. Newer yachts may offer upgraded features and a more modern design. However, older yachts can still be charming and well-maintained. Research the yacht’s history and reviews to ensure you choose a reliable and comfortable vessel.

7. Yacht Charter Company: Work with a reputable yacht charter company or The Yacht Week organizers to book your yacht. Ensure they have a good track record of providing quality yachts and reliable service. Read reviews and gather recommendations to make an informed decision.

It’s important to note that the availability of specific yachts may vary depending on the time of booking. Popular yachts tend to book up quickly, so it’s recommended to book your yacht well in advance to secure your preferred choice.

Remember, selecting the right yacht will contribute to the overall enjoyment of your Yacht Week Croatia experience. Consider your group’s size, preferences, and budget to choose a yacht that meets your needs and ensures an unforgettable week of sailing and celebration.

You can customize the experience according to your group’s preferences and have a cohesive dynamic throughout the trip.

2. Partial Crew: If you have a smaller group or are open to meeting new people, you can book a partial yacht and be paired with other individuals or smaller crews. This option allows you to join a diverse and sociable group, giving you the opportunity to make new friends and forge connections with people from all over the world. It can create a dynamic and lively atmosphere, with a mix of different personalities and backgrounds onboard.

Safety and Regulations

Ensuring the safety and adhering to regulations are paramount during The Yacht Week Croatia. Here are some important considerations to keep in mind to have a safe and enjoyable experience:

1. Skipper Guidance: Each yacht is assigned a professional skipper who is responsible for the safe operation of the vessel. Follow the skipper’s instructions regarding sailing procedures, anchorages, and safety protocols. They have the expertise and experience to navigate the waters and handle any unforeseen situations.

2. Weather Awareness: Stay informed about weather conditions throughout your journey. Be aware of any potential storms or adverse weather and take necessary precautions. Your skipper will have access to weather updates and can advise you on the best course of action to ensure your safety.

3. Safety Equipment: Ensure that the yacht is equipped with essential safety equipment, including life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits. Familiarize yourself with the location and usage of safety equipment onboard. Ensure that everyone in your crew knows where the safety equipment is stored and how to use it in case of emergencies.

4. Respect Local Regulations: Familiarize yourself with the local laws and regulations of Croatia. Observe speed limits, navigation rules, and any other regulations set by local authorities. It’s important to respect the environment, marine life, and the communities you visit during your journey.

5. Mooring Etiquette: When mooring at marinas or anchorages, be considerate of other vessels. Follow proper mooring procedures and avoid blocking access or overcrowding spaces. Respect any designated areas or zones and ensure that you leave the mooring area as you found it.

6. Responsible Alcohol Consumption: While enjoying the vibrant party atmosphere during The Yacht Week, it’s important to drink responsibly. Exercise moderation and be aware of your alcohol consumption. Stay hydrated and plan ahead for safe transportation after consuming alcohol, such as arranging designated drivers or utilizing taxi services.

7. Swim Safety: Take necessary precautions when swimming or engaging in water activities. Be mindful of water depth and currents, especially in unfamiliar areas. Avoid diving into shallow water and always assess the conditions before cliff jumping or engaging in any water-based activities.

8. Emergency Contacts: Save emergency contact numbers including local authorities, Coast Guard, and medical services in your phone. Ensure that all crew members are aware of these emergency contacts and the location of onboard safety equipment.

Remember to respect the natural surroundings, wildlife, and local communities during your sailing adventure. Dispose of waste responsibly, avoid littering, and be mindful of noise levels, especially during overnight stays.

It’s important to note that safety is a shared responsibility. Communicate openly with your crew members, listen to the guidance of your skipper, and take necessary precautions to ensure that everyone onboard has a safe and enjoyable experience during The Yacht Week Croatia.

Minnesota Yacht Club festival will return in 2025 with an added third day of music

The festival is set again for July 18-20 following a strong turnout in the St. Paul event’s inaugural year.

By Chris Riemenschneider

ultra music festival yacht week

The dates have been set for the Minnesota Yacht Club music festival’s return to St. Paul’s Harriet Island Regional Park in July 2025, and there’s already one glaring difference from its inaugural year: Three days are listed instead of two.

“Thanks to your support, we’re extending to THREE days,” festival organizers announced in social media posts Tuesday morning.

The days confirmed in the announcement are July 18-20, a Friday through a Sunday. This year’s MYC fell on the same weekend but only ran Friday and Saturday , with performers including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alanis Morissette, Gwen Stefani, Gary Clark Jr., Joan Jett and the Offspring.

There was little doubt the festival would be back for another year. It drew a near-capacity crowd of around 35,000 fans each day of its 2024 run, and — aside from some intermittently long concession lines — it earned relatively high marks from organizers and audience members alike.

“We were very happy with the inaugural festival this year,” MYC promoter Tim Sweetwood of C3 Presents, which put on the festival, said in a statement. “Our team has continued to work closely with Saint Paul city officials and collectively determined expanding into a third day made a lot of sense. We are thrilled to return with an all-new lineup July 18-20, 2025 and will continue to highlight the arts and people of Minnesota.”

Organizers have not yet offered more info on the second-year plans, including what kind of an impact the added third day will have on ticket prices. The only link included in Tuesday’s announcement was to pre-book rooms at hotels affiliated with the festival.

Fans can likely expect to pay about $100 more for the general admission passes for three days instead of two. Those started around $200 in early bird pricing for this past year’s festival before being bumped up to $255. The many different VIP options — $255-$1,395 for two-day passes in 2024 — will also go up exponentially with the extra day.

Texas’ C3 Presents specializes in multiday festivals such as Lollapalooza in Chicago, Austin City Limits, Boston Calling and New York’s Governors Ball. Those fests all last three days, too.

What typically happens with these festivals is: Early bird tickets go on sale in the fall or winter at discount prices without any of next year’s artists being named, then the music lineup gets announced in the winter or spring, and then tickets go on sale at their standard prices.

In other words, expect many more updates on MYC 2025 between now and next summer.

Morning Briefing: Europe Edition

The second night of the Democratic National Convention.

Natasha Frost

By Natasha Frost

🇺🇸 U.S. ELECTION 2024

The presidential election is less than 80 days away. This is what we’re watching.

Kamala Harris on a big video screen high in a dark, crowded arena. Under the screen is a logo reading “DNC 2024.”

Harris rallies Democrats on Day 2 of the convention

The lineup of speakers on the second night of the Democratic National Convention featured Barack Obama, and the nominee herself, Vice President Kamala Harris, made a video appearance. A jubilant crowd danced in the aisles and cheered as Republicans who’d disavowed Donald Trump announced their support for Harris. Here’s the latest .

Harris and Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, her running mate, were rallying supporters at the site of last month’s Republican convention in Milwaukee, in the swing state of Wisconsin. “This is a people-powered campaign,” she said, appearing on screens throughout the Chicago arena. “And together we will chart a new way forward.”

In a show of unity, the speakers last night included Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, eight years after hundreds of his supporters stormed out of the Democratic convention in Philadelphia to protest Hillary Clinton’s nomination after a bruising primary contest.

Republican counterprogramming : Trump spoke about crime and public safety in Howell, Mich., about an hour northwest of Detroit. His choice of location — a city whose past involves white supremacy and activity by the Ku Klux Klan — drew criticism from the Harris campaign.

More highlights:

President Biden was greeted on Monday with chants of “Thank you, Joe!” in honor of his lifetime of public service. But the crowd was also thanking him for not running again .

Harris supported Obama in 2008 when Hillary Clinton was dominating the Democratic primary race. It was a political risk that he never forgot .

Harris’s appearance onstage Monday was a surprise for two reasons. One was her suit. Our fashion critic explains .

Do you have questions about the election? Send them to us, and we’ll find the answers .

Obstacles remain in Gaza cease-fire proposal

The latest U.S.-backed proposal for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, which Israel has accepted and Hamas so far has not, leaves major disagreements between them unresolved , officials said. Negotiations are expected to continue this week, a U.S. official said.

Hamas said yesterday that it was eager to reach a cease-fire but that the latest American proposal was “a reversal” from what it had agreed to in early July.

While many details of the plan remained unclear, at least parts of the American proposal appeared to conform to demands added by Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in late July, officials said, such as Israeli troops continuing to patrol Gaza’s border with Egypt, albeit in reduced numbers.

Recovery efforts: Israeli forces said they had retrieved the bodies of six Israeli hostages from tunnels in southern Gaza.

The latest news:

Two Israeli strikes yesterday, one on a school building in Gaza City, killed at least 19 people , the Palestinian emergency services said.

An Iranian military official said that retaliation against Israel over the killing of a Hamas leader in Tehran may be long in coming and could take any number of forms, suggesting that an attack may have been placed on hold.

Zelensky called for an end to the West’s ‘red lines’

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, is trying to use his military’s surprise incursion into Russia to convince allies to lift restrictions on its use of Western-supplied long-range weapons .

Ukraine’s assault showed that the West’s fears about the ramifications of attacks on Russian territory were unfounded and should be abandoned, he said. “The whole naïve, illusory concept of so-called red lines regarding Russia, which dominated the assessment of the war by some partners, has crumbled,” he said in a speech published on Monday.

Moscow’s faltering response to Kyiv’s offensive should signal to the world that Russia is not the fearsome superpower it once seemed to be, he said. “It is the time when the world is shedding its last and very naïve illusions about Russia,” he said.

Background: For more than two years, Washington has denied Ukraine permission to strike into Russia using the weapons it supplies, citing fears of an escalating conflict between Moscow and the West. This spring, after months of Ukrainian lobbying, the U.S. and other NATO countries adjusted their policies and allowed it to do so.

Women stepping up: In Ukraine, Russia’s war is reshaping the labor market , as jobs long dominated by men have been left vacant by soldiers sent off to war.

Other news: Ukraine’s Parliament passed a bill creating a legal path to ban a Russian-aligned branch of the Orthodox church.

ARTS AND IDEAS

The world’s most prestigious classical music festival.

Since its founding more than 100 years ago, the Salzburg Festival has been known as a gathering place for the world’s finest musicians. That’s still true, but the event is now also a proving ground for artists on the cusp on stardom. Our classical music critic Joshua Barone went to the festival to see who would break through this year.

One standout: Robert Carsen’s new staging of Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito,” which transports the opera’s ancient Roman tale to the present. With echoes of Giorgia Meloni’s Italy and the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the production is a lesbian political thriller in which Annio is a young woman, sweetly sung by the Israeli mezzo-soprano Anna Tetruashvili. Read Joshua’s other picks .

For more: In Scotland, two different shows at the Edinburgh Fringe make fun of Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski trial — and one of them is a triumph .

RECOMMENDATIONS

Bake: This big, bold Bundt cake goes heavy on the lemon for an extra-puckery bite.

Listen: In the latest in our series of conversations with authors, Jennifer Egan looks back at “ A Visit From the Goon Squad .”
