YOT 36 full tour: Inside a brand new powercat with lots of clever features

Reporting from the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival, MBY editor Hugo Andreae takes us on a full tour of the YOT 36, which was making its global debut...
The Catana Group is one of the world’s most prolific builders of sailing catamarans but now it has turned its attention to powercats , starting with this YOT 36.
Marketed under the brand name YOT (TOY spelled backwards), it will eventually include inboard- and outboard -powered craft of all different sizes, but first out of the traps is this new 36ft sporting weekender.
The show demonstrator was fitted with a pair of 300hp Verado V8s for an estimated top speed of 35 knots, but it’s the stylish looks, clever packaging and versatile cockpit layout that are likely to impress buyers the most.
At 3.99m wide, it is designed to fit into a standard 4m berth but folding bulwarks expand this to 5.4m at rest.
Two rows of twin bench seats with reversible back rests and fold-flat mechanisms allow them to face both ways or to link up to form sunbeds. Matching wet bars and tables also make this set-up ideal for long lunches afloat.

In deciding not to market a power version of the Bali Catsmart, the Catana Group was keen to develop a concept and soon a range totally disconnected from the sailing culture built up by Catana and Bali.

The very first 36-foot YOT is presented as a weekender - a big toy with a metallic gelcoat that you’ll just love... in fact, YOT sounds like a childish version of “yacht”, and also, it’s TOY in reverse. YOT/TOY, in a way, like NEEL/LEEN: two metatheses with the same “marketing mission”, and yet a completely opposite end goal - to stand out from sailing for YOT, and to draw inspiration from it for LEEN. Nevertheless, this first YOT 36 is a real eye-catcher. Devilishly attractive, this model should appeal to single-hull powerboat enthusiasts and first-time buyers alike. The outboard-powered range is set to expand rapidly before being completed by inboard models. These new powercats are built in Portugal, and the Catana Group makes no secret of its ambitions for its new brand: the aim is to match the sailing market by 2030, with no fewer than 400 YOTs built every year... Builder: YOT (Catana Group) Architect: J&J Design Material: polyester with carbon reinforcements Overall length: 35’10” (10.92 m) Beam: 13’1”/17’9” (3.99/5.4 m) Engines: 2 x 225 HP or 2 x 300 HP Fuel: 2 x 150 US gal (2 x 575 l) Water: 2 x 39 US gal (2 x 150 l) Number of cabins: 2 Passengers: 10 CE Category: B

Catana Group launches YOT, the new power catamaran brand
- yacht design
- Yacht industry
As a pure-player in the catamaran market, Catana Group has won the hearts of yachtsmen with the Catana brand, recognised as setting the standards for cruising catamarans, as well as with Bali, the concept that revolutionised cruising catamarans.
With an offer essentially based on sailing, the Group needed to offer powerboats featuring the same high standards as those that have made Bali and Catana so successful.
Today, Catana Group is proud to announce the launch of the YOT brand. A new brand of power catamarans that brings a breath of fresh air to the yachting sector.
YOT – An innovative concept forms the genesis of the project
The project began in 2020 with one simple idea: to design and offer innovative power catamarans that effectively meet expectations.
The powerboats in the Bali range are still inspired by the sailing range and retain traces of a sailboat design. The approach to powerboats has therefore been totally rethought, refocused on the uses and trends in powerboating, a sector which has very specific characteristics in terms of navigation, uses, design and codes.
The concept also centred on the desire to offer something different, based on the Group's presence and expertise as a pure-player in the catamaran market.
Right from the very beginnings of the project, the ambition was clear: to produce a range of high-end power catamarans, with well-thought-out design and comfort, agile and high-performance seakeeping, good range, reasonable fuel consumption and the ability to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.
Olivier Poncin, his partners and his teams worked towards one single objective: to enjoy being aboard.
YOT - A dedicated brand and division
For this new segment, Catana Group has combined its know-how and over 40 years' experience in catamaran design and innovation with a team and service providers specialising in motorboating. A dedicated department has been created within the group, from design and studies, through production, to sales, marketing and branding.
Boris Compagnon, Sales and Marketing Director of Catana Group, explains:
« For us, YOT is both a leap into a world where we're going to have to make our mark, because the offer will be solid and tempting, but also onto a playing field in which we already have full legitimacy with our industrial know-how in terms of catamarans. Catana Group’s DNA brings the ability to have an in-depth and visionary understanding of the market, and it's through this prism that we have conceived YOT. »
The conception and design have been entrusted to JnJ Design. With almost 40 years' experience and a passion for boating, the naval architects have an impressive track record and a clear ambition to improve the user experience.
The group's expertise and capacity for innovation are supported by a new in-house design team with experience in the motorboat industry.
Marketing is also specialised, with a dedicated distribution network, a brand developed with the Mazarine group and its communication tools.
YOT – Experience the power of fun
The YOT brand is aimed at anyone seeking fun at sea aboard a boat.
It meets the needs of both beginners and experienced enthusiasts.
It is designed to meet every need, from day trips to cruising, for couples, sporty trips, parties, gathering with friends, and also romantic weekends.
YOT has a style, a modern and trendy design in step with the new expectations of our times, imagined for living intensely.
YOT offers boats that are comfortable, stable and safe. Seaworthy, agile and powerful, their twin-hull design ensures excellent performance and a smooth passage through the sea. Lively and fun, they combine power with reasonable fuel consumption.
YOT is about having more room on board, more living space giving maximum on-board self-sufficiency. Every square centimetre has been optimised, thought through, and rethought to create generous, functional spaces that are a pleasure to live in.
Boris Compagnon announces a preview of the very first model at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival. « The first YOT 36 unit will be presented in September 2023 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, and we will be in a position where we can respond to the first owners at the very beginning of 2024. »

The ethos of YOT: pleasure on board. A new spirit on the yacht market, combining design and trends, space and comfort.

The YOT 36 offers spacious, functional and modular comfort on board, all in a smart, contemporary design. With remarkable stability, this boat offers assertive seakeeping and great agility. Featuring a deck that covers an area of 38 m² and with two cabins, the YOT 36 can be adapted to suit a wide range of uses with a high degree of modularity. Thrills under way, conviviality and relaxation, comfort on board, overnighting at anchor – all the pleasures of the sea are ready and waiting for you.
YOT 36 – Space on board for every purpose
With a beam of 3.99 m and two opening side platforms, the spacious YOT 36 leaves nothing to be desired. The central wet bar comprises two modules with a fridge, sink, storage and optional cooking facilities. Optimum self -sufficiency is ensured with a large freshwater capacity. With its modular platforms, the immense terrace makes for a dream location on the sea: a modular double saloon for sunbathing, dining for up to 8 guests, or enjoying the wet bar. Forward, the cockpit has a vast sun-lounging area, truly like a bed on the sea, and a wide bench seat at the bow so you can feel the speed. Recessed access to the starboard side-deck means perfect safety, for the peace of mind of everyone aboard.
Inside, the YOT 36 has two bright cabins, each with its own bathroom and toilet, for great privacy when you’re on board overnight.
YOT 36 – The pleasure of helming
The innovative helm station features four very comfortable seats forward, and front and side windscreens so you can really to make the most of the speed. The elegant hard top creates a pleasant space sheltered from the sun. At the helm, the skipper can take full advantage of the performance of this catamaran powered by twin 300 hp Mercury Marine V8 outboards via a joystick system and advanced electric steering. The multi-function electronic navigation system allows full control and navigating with ease. Lively, flexible and easy to handle, the YOT36 offers a safe and thrilling experience. The Mercury Marine drivetrain combined with a catamaran design make this a fuel-efficient model.
YOT 36 – Design, quality and reliability
Designed by JnJ, the YOT 36 has a sleek profile that glides elegantly through the water. The materials and upholstery have been rigorously selected for their performance, quality and design. The YOT 36 benefits from the experience of Catana Group , a pure player in the catamaran sector for over 40 years, renowned for its technological innovations and design know-how. Bearing the signature of Catana Group’s expertise in reliability, the hull incorporates structural carbon reinforcements. Production is undertaken in Portugal by Composite Solutions, a company acquired by the Group back in February, which is based in Vagos, just south of Porto.

Nautism - YOT Power Catamarans announces the arrival of the YOT 41
July 1 2024
Written by Yachting Art Magazine English Edition
Just one year after the launch of the YOT 36, and in line with the brand's roll-out programme announced at the time, Catana Group is unveiling the YOT 41, which will make its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024.
The YOT 41 opts for a walkaround deck layout. The central circulation frees up a huge amount of useful space on the nacelle.
The 2024 edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival will be the opportunity to discover two powercats from YOT, the brand new YOT 41, alongside the YOT 36, two models designed by J&J Design, for a concept developed by Olivier Poncin.
At 12.57m long, with a beam of 4.49m with the aft bulwarks raised, or 5.82m with the aft bulwarks lowered in anchor and beach club configuration, the YOT 41 takes advantage of its dimensions to offer even more.
The big change compared to the YOT 36 is the deck layout, which moves from Walkaround mode - perfect for a 36-footer (as it offers 4 pilot seats under the T-Top) - to Bowrider mode, which we feel is ideal for a larger unit, maximising the volume of the 2 cabins.
In fact, the YOT 41 does away with the 2 gangways, and instead features a central passageway to the foredeck, via a central door, maximising the useful external volume of the nacelle, thanks to a full-width layout.
The exterior space of the YOT 41 is organised around 3 distinct areas or moments:
- the central area, protected by a full-length windscreen and an XXL T-Top, which houses the helm station, galley and large sofa;
- the forward cockpit, ideal for both sailing and anchoring, with very secure access;
- the aft cockpit, with its fold-down bulwarks that open wide to the sea.
The aft cockpit of the YOT 41 becomes a Beach Club with a 150cm x 100cm electric submersible rear platform, with a 200kg capacity, positioned between the 2 Mercury outboard engines - factory-fitted, a guarantee of quality.
At night, the YOT 41 offers 2 cabins of equivalent size, with large berths and en suite shower rooms, both with direct sea views.
The two Mercury Verado outboard engines on offer are the very latest generation 400hp V10s, characterised by their torque and silence when underway.
The catamaran architecture offers a significant reduction in drag compared with a monohull, while the stable shape of the boat makes it extremely comfortable both at sea and at anchor.
To be discovered at Cannes.
