Italy Yacht Charter Enquiry

Amanda, Jaco is a beautiful boat. Captain and crew is wonderful. The details of our trip were very similar to the itinerary you outlined with some minor modifications along the way. Our first night was in Ischia. We had dinner on the boat. We left early the next morning after breakfast for Capri. Capri was wonderful and tremendously fun. We hiked the Phoenician Stairs to Anacapri, hiked Mt. Solar, Villa Jovis and enjoyed the shipping now etc. dinner at Auroa one night. We spent two nights there. Upon departure, we had lunch at the lunch spot en route to Positano that you recommended. We spent one night in Positano and had dinner at a great hotel that MK can forward. We spent the night in Amalfi and had dinner on the boat. Next day we embarked for Sorrento. We spent two nights in Sorrento. Had dinner at Don Alfonso which is a truly special place. On our last Saturday we hit Pompeii, and mt. Vesuvius. Great day. We had the boat meet us back in Naples. ARGENTARIO SAILING WEEK

The history of the Argentario Sailing Weeks goes back to 1992 when a group of YCSS members organized a classic yachts regatta called Silver Sails. As the years passed the number of classic yachts increased and in 1999 the Argentario Sailing Week was finally born. The Regatta, which takes traditionally place in the second half of June, when the breeze is stronger, hosts a selection of yachts belonging to Classic, Vintage, Spirit of Tradition and Metric classes and sees the participation of a variety of competitors from all over the world.

The yachts are moored along the spectacular ancient harbour of Porto S. Stefano, called “La Pilarella”, where crews enjoy the historical charme of the village and its restaurants, bars and boutiques straight on the docks. Four challenging days of racing in some of the best sailing conditions in the Mediterranean combined with the famous YCSS hospitality make the Argentario Sailing Week not to be missed.

As is typical for much of the  Mediterranean, Italy's climate is mostly subtropical, with warm dry  summers and wet winters. The months of May through October are optimal  for a bareboat charter in Italy. During these months you can expect  moderate winds from 10 to 20 knots while average temperatures will range  from 70 to 90 F (20 to 30 C). July and August are the peak of the  summer season, with temperatures reaching up to 90 F (30 C) and warm  seas that can rise to a comfortable 75 F (24 C). This is a great time  for sailors with moderate skills to experience and explore the region.  The winter months can also be a wonderful time for a sailing trip in  Italy, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds.

Sailing Areas

Naples bareboat charter, Amalfi Coast

Sheltered short passages and light breezes make this area ideal  for a relaxed sailing vacation. When taking a yacht charter in Italy  you must consider sailing along the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Most Italy  and Amalfi yacht charters begin in Naples. This city has distinct energy  - chaotic but beautiful. While it may feel daunting at first sight,  Naples will soon charm you with its hospitality and colorful culture.  From the Naples yacht charter base in southern Italy, you have an easy  gateway to Capri and the Amalfi coast.

In less than a day's passage from Naples you may reach the Amalfi  coastline that stretches from Sorrento to Salerno, the most stunning and  incomparable coastline of the Mediterranean. Beautiful hillside towns  with colorful terrace houses clinging to steep cliffs represent  authentic Italian architecture.

Salerno is the biggest yacht charter base in Italy that can boast a  long history dating back to the 4th century. One of the most popular  historical sites of this sailing destination is the Arechi Castle. Built  in the 6th century, this castle offers the best views of the entire  town of Salerno.

From there you may head to Capri, one of the most prestigious sailing  destinations. A reservation is necessary for a berth in the marina  beforehand, as this is a popular and busy place during the summer  season.

Yacht charters in Procida can be an alternative to Naples. Located in  the Bay of Naples, this relatively undiscovered and untouched island  can be easily reached by ferry. Procida has open access to the Amalfi  Coast and Pontine Islands.

Sailing Scarlino

This is another must visit destination for an Italian yacht  charter. This tiny town has cobblestone streets and is framed by hills  of ancient, silvery olive groves. From the top of the hill, opens a  breathtaking view of the harbor and beautiful coastline. Numerous  waterside cafes offer great places to sit and watch the glamorous  yachting world. Further down the Italian coast, you may sail to Elba,  the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, located only 6 miles from  Piombino. Elba has several coastal villages, all with the same  spectacular views of the seas. You may also like to stop and take a walk  along the streets of the island's  principal town – Portoferraio.

Boat rentals In Italy

A yacht charter in Italy requires a valid skipper's license.  The skipper must be at least 18 years of age (this is also a basic  requirement for obtaining a sailing license) and must carry their  license at all times during the vacation. A valid skipper's license will  allow you to sail along the coastline within 20 miles of the shore.

In order to charter a motor boat you will also need an official  permit allowing you to operate a power vessel with an engine over 40 hp.  Italian authorities recognize most of the International Certificates of  Pleasure Craft Operators.

Italians are very sensitive about the protection of their marine  reserves. You should keep in mind that it is forbidden to bring a yacht  close to the shore in protected areas (usually a minimum distance is 1  to 2 miles). In these areas it is also prohibited to fish, collect  seashells, sea plants, cruise on a boat with a working engine, anchor,  or practice any type of water sport. Italian protected areas are found  in Cinque Terre, the Tuscan Archipelago, Isole Tremiti, Miramar,  Maddalena Archipelago, Egadiysky Archipelago, the island of Ustica,  Porto Cesareo and Ventotene.

Italy is among the countries of the Schengen Agreement, and is a  member of EFTA. For citizens of the countries that are members of these  organizations, as well as for EU citizens, a valid passport is all that  is required to enter Italy. You are allowed to stay in the country for  up to 90 days.

The Yacht Week Announce Tahiti Route

The yacht week has launched its tahiti route for 2023, taking place from 8th – 15th april and 15th – 22nd april ., the original ‘ floating festival ’ offers a  unique way to experience  everything the  french polynesian islands  have to offer. .

Groups of friends  can  hire a luxury yacht  and  join a flotilla of like-minded people  from around the world to enjoy a  7-day boutique adventure  (15 yachts compared to 60 catered for in Croatia) which  mixes sailing, parties, exploration  and  activities , while giving a chance to  experience Tahitian culture  first-hand.

Another titan of industry has been named among the six people still missing after a luxury yacht was swallowed by the waves off the coast of Italy on Monday.

Morgan Stanley International bank chair Jonathan Bloomer is unaccounted for after the 184-foot sailing vessel Bayesian was suddenly sunk by a tornadic waterspout , a rotating pillar of mist and air, about half a mile from the Sicilian shore.

The other missing persons include U.K. tech magnate Mike Lynch , 59, whose wife owned the boat, his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, and Chris Morvillo, an anti-corruption lawyer with Clifford Chance. The remaining two people, reportedly the wives of Bloomer and Morvillo, have not yet been identified.

Morvillo had represented Lynch in his battle to clear his name of fraud over the $12 billion sale of his company Autonomy Technology to Hewlett-Packard in 2011. Bloomer, who chaired Autonomy’s audit committee some years before joining Morgan Stanley, had also given evidence at an earlier stage in the years-long legal saga.

It’s been reported that Lynch had invited members of his legal team out on the yacht to celebrate his recent triumph at trial earlier in June, at which he’d been facing more than 20 years behind bars. Still, the disappearance of the billionaire, his lawyer, and one of their witnesses only adds to the bizarre series of events that have followed hot on the heels of their shock victory, itself all the more extraordinary for the fact less than 1 percent of all federal criminal cases end in acquittal.

Just hours after the Bayesian went down, Lynch’s former vice president at Autonomy and co-defendant in the recent trial, Stephen Chamberlain, died in a U.K. hospital after succumbing to injuries sustained when he was hit by a car while out jogging on Saturday afternoon.

Prosecutors had accused Lynch and Chamberlain of committing massive fraud in cooking Autonomy’s books to make it look more profitable ahead of the sale to Hewlett-Packard. After civil proceedings in the U.K. had awarded some $4 billion in damages against the pair in 2022, federal authorities in U.S. filed to extradite Lynch on criminal charges, which he fought until eventually being brought over in May 2023.

One of Lynch’s other former lieutenants, Sushovan Hussain, had already been convicted in the scheme, and so there were tears of relief when Lynch and Chamberlain walked out of court free men at the end of their 11-week trial on June 6.

As of Tuesday morning the search for Lynch and the others missing from the capsized ship was ongoing. Fifteen passengers have already been rescued, including a 1-year-old baby girl.

One among the survivors is Ayla Ronald, 36, a Clifford Chance lawyer from New Zealand who also worked on Lynch’s fraud case. Ronald’s father Lin has spoken with 9News about his daughter’s ordeal, saying she was “very shocked at the moment” and adding he could only say at this stage she had texted him that “there are deaths, and she and her partner are alive.”

So far only a single body, of the vessel’s Canadian chef, has been recovered from the wreck.

Details have emerged of the 22 people who were on board the superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily.

The British-flagged vessel named Bayesian was carrying 12 passengers and 10 members of crew when it got into difficulty in the early hours of Monday.

Seven bodies have now been recovered. The other 15 people on board were rescued.

British technology tycoon Mike Lynch was among the original six people missing. On Thursday, divers confirmed his body had been recovered.

Raised in Ilford, east London by Irish parents, the 59-year-old made millions with the software company Autonomy he set up in 1996.

He had an estimated net worth of £852m, according to the 2023 Sunday Times Rich List, and is believed to have owned the yacht.

Off the back of Automomy's global success, Mr Lynch was given the roles of science adviser to former prime minister David Cameron and non-executive director of the BBC.

The Cambridge maths and sciences graduate sold the firm for £8.64bn to US giant Hewlett Packard (HP) in 2011.

Dubbed the "British Bill Gates", Mr Lynch has been in the headlines in recent months over a high-profile fraud case related to the sale of Autonomy to HP in 2011.

HP accused him of deliberately overstating the value of the company before it was acquired by the American technology firm. Mr Lynch denied any wrongdoing.

In June, a US jury cleared him of all charges .

Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch was also on board. A body believed to be that of the teenager was recovered on Friday from the yacht wreckage.

She had been on holiday with her parents, having secured a place to study English at the University of Oxford, according to reports.

Her former school, Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, west London, said they were "incredibly shocked by the news that Hannah and her father are among those missing in this tragic accident" when the yacht first sank.

Angela Bacares

Mr Lynch's wife Angela Bacares was on board the yacht and was rescued.

The 57-year-old said she and Mr Lynch were awoken by the boat "tilting" at 4am - half an hour before it sank.

Jonathan Bloomer

Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of investment bank Morgan Stanley International, was confirmed dead on Thursday.

According to the Financial Times, Mr Bloomer appeared as a defence witness for Mr Lynch during his US criminal trial and the pair were good friends. He also chaired Autonomy's audit committee.

The 70-year-old was the chief executive of UK-Hong Kong insurer Prudential until he was ousted by the board in 2005.

He was also chairman of the insurance provider Hiscox.

Judy Bloomer

Mr Bloomer's wife Judy was on the yacht trip with her husband. Divers confirmed they found her body on Thursday.

Mrs Bloomer was a former board member at The Eve Appeal charity, which focuses on gynaecological cancers.

The charity described her as a "brilliant champion for women's health and medical research... an incredible supporter, committee member, and trustee of our charity for over 20 years".

Recaldo Thomas

The yacht's on-board chef Recaldo Thomas died in the sinking.

He was Canadian-Antiguan and part of the crew of the Bayesian.

His body was the first to be recovered from the wreckage.

Chris Morvillo

US lawyer Chris Morvillo was among those divers found dead on Thursday.

The father-of-two worked on Mr Lynch's US fraud trial and was a partner of law firm Clifford Chance's US branch.

Mr Morvillo was assistant attorney for the Southern District of New York between 1995 and 2005 and worked on the terrorist investigation into the 9/11 attacks.

In a recent LinkedIn post, he thanked the legal team that helped win Mr Lynch's trial.

Signing off the post, he said: "And, finally, a huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo.

"None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home. And they all lived happily ever after…."

Neda Morvillo

Mr Morvillo's wife Neda died in the disaster alongside her husband.

The 57-year-old had a luxury jewellery brand, which she ran under her maiden name Neda Nassiri.

Ayla Ronald

Ayla Ronald, a senior associate at Clifford Chance, survived the yacht disaster, the law firm confirmed.

The 36-year-old worked alongside Chris Morvillo in helping defend Mike Lynch in court.

Clifford Chance said in a statement: "Our utmost priority is providing support to the family as well as our colleague Ayla Ronald, who together with her partner, thankfully survived the incident."

She is originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, but lives in London, her father told local media there.

He said she was left "very shaken" but "she and her partner are alive".

Charlotte Golunski

Charlotte Golunski was on board the yacht and was rescued along with her one-year-old daughter, Sofia.

She spoke to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, confirming she survived the yacht sinking and told how she kept her daughter alive after she was rescued.

"I held her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards to keep her from drowning," she said.

"It was all dark. In the water I couldn't keep my eyes open. I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others."

The 35-year-old is a partner at one of Mr Lynch's firms - Invoke Capital - and has worked there since 2012, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She also worked at Hewlett Packard, which acquired Autonomy in 2011, for 11 months.

Before that, she studied history at the University of Oxford.

James Emsley

Ms Golunski's partner James Emsley was also rescued from the yacht, according to Sicily's civil protection agency.

The 36-year-old is the father of her one-year-old daughter.

James Cutfield

The 51-year-old captain of the yacht spoke to Italian newspaper La Repubblica after he was rescued.

Mr Cutfield, from New Zealand, was taken for treatment at the Termini Imerese emergency unit, where he told the newspaper: "We didn't see it coming."

Leah Randall

Leah Randall was part of the Bayesian crew and survived the sinking.

She was pictured going ashore in Porticello on Monday morning and is from South Africa.

Her mother Heidi told Sky News said she was "beyond relieved that my daughter's life was spared by the grace of God".

"It doesn't make it any easier living with the heartache of those who have lost their lives [or are] missing. My very deepest condolences to the chef's family as they formed a great friendship," she said.

Katja Chicken

Katja Chicken was another South African member of crew on board the Bayesian and was pictured being brought to safety in Porticello on Monday.

The Italian coastguard confirmed on Tuesday evening that Leo Eppel, a crew member, also survived the yacht sinking.

Six people remain missing after a luxury superyacht sank off the coast of Palermo in Sicily, Italy on Monday, including British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch.

Lynch, 59, was aboard the Bayesian, an 184-foot-long British-registered sailboat that sank into the water right before sunrise. While six individuals are missing — including American, British and Canadian nationals — one person has been confirmed deceased from the sinking that capsized the yacht's 22 passengers, Italy's coast guard said in a statement.

Of the 15 rescued passengers, eight were taken to a local hospital for treatment and were in stable condition, CNN reported. A 1-year-old was among those rescued. The large vessel sank after heavy rainfall from strong storms caused flooding and landslides in parts of Italy.

Prosecutors in a town near Palermo have since opened an investigation into the events leading up to the sinking, which may shed some light on why Lynch was aboard the superyacht. Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, was one of the rescued passengers, the BBC reported.

Here is what we know about Lynch.

What companies did Mike Lynch found?

In 1996, Lynch co-founded the Autonomy Corporation, an enterprise software company now known as HP Autonomy. He also founded Invoke Capital , a venture capital fund.

Through Invoke Capital, Lynch became a co-founder of Darktrace, a British cyber security company established in 2013 and headquartered in Cambridge, England.

Why was Mike Lynch charged with fraud?

Soon after Lynch sold Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard (HP) for $11 billion in 2011, a sale in which he made around $800 million, he was hit with civil and criminal charges.

In November 2012, HP announced an $8.8 billion writedown of assets and claimed Autonomy artificially inflated its value by hiding "serious accounting improprieties, disclosure failures and outright misrepresentations," the Guardian reported.

Although the UK Serious Fraud Office ended its investigation of the sale due to insufficient evidence, Lynch and Stephen Chamberlain, former vice president of finance at Autonomy, were indicted for fraud in the U.S. in November 2018. Sushovan Hussain , Autonomy's former finance chief officer, was found guilty of fraud in 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California .

HP won a civil action in the High Court in London in January 2022 against Lynch and Hussian, the BBC reported. Damages were to be decided later, with the judge saying the amount would be "significantly less" than the $5 billion claimed by HP, according to the outlet.

Was Mike Lynch found guilty?

Lynch was extradited to the US in May 2023 to face 16 counts of wire fraud, securities fraud and conspiracy. He and Chamberlain, who was charged with 15 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy, pleaded not guilty.

On June 6, 2024, the men were found not guilty of all charges.

Lynch told BBC Radio 4 in August that although he knew he was innocent at the onset of this 11-week trial, he felt his wealth allowed him to prove his case in U.S. court.

"You shouldn't need to have funds to protect yourself as a British citizen," he said.

Stephen Chamberlain on life support

On Saturday, two days before Lynch's disappearance, Chamberlain was seriously injured in a road accident, Reuters reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Chamberlain was struck by a car in Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning and was placed on life support, the person said, per Reuters.
