The perfect boat - fully modern with trailer like interior sculpted to part the waters while being able to be taken anywhere a car can go. We've loved our MacGregor26M, so many memories! Here is one trailerable sailing boat whose most distinctive attraction is not only its ability to sail but also its great ability as a fast power cruiser. The fact that it sails well too and has a mass of clever features seems almost like a bonus. We've towed her with our Ford Escape all the way from Ottawa to Georgian Bay for a summer holiday. It's so easy with this boat. Unlike the vast majority of boats, the MacGregor 26M with its 2.34m beam is also trailerable without restrictions, and its trailing weight of 1400kg (plus motor) makes it an easy pull. Its accommodation is so spacious and well laid-out that it would make a very acceptable caravan. The idea of touring Canada with free accommodation and the ability to cruise anywhere there is enough water is very attractive.
Mail sail furling
Most sail boats have their sails horizontally across the boom. They need to tie it up when finished sailing and then when in the cockpit, the sails look like they're in the way. But not this MacGregor 26M, it's sails wrap themselves vertically to the mast - it's incredible and you can barely see it when wrapped. The boat looks cleaner and you've had to do less to keep your MacGregor 26m looking terrific!
Evinrude E-Tech 60
Watch your fellow boaters when the season is over and they need to winterize their boats. It's a real pain but not with the E-Tech! It's used in the Arctic because it can be safely winterized in just a few minutes without ever leaving the cockpit and then started back up again just to winterize it again over and over if needed. This engine mixes its own oil once a season. It's so easy on gas that we rarely need to refill our tanks during the season.
Dual Rudders
Unlike the majority of sail boats, the MacGregor 26M has a dagger board that gets lifted up into the boat so that you can drive up onto the beach. It's dual rudders help steer you perfectly while being able to be lifted up out of the water to get up close. If you really want to go fast, bring up your dagger board and rudders, then let her go!!

How long has it been for sale?
We just put it up for sale this spring. The MacGregor 26M doesn't stay for sale long, it's a highly sought after boat.
Can I take it for a test drive?
Unlike a car, the boat is currently on the trailer. We can however start the engine up without putting it in the water. If you're truly interested we will arrange something.
Is there a survey?
No, we don't have a survey. This boat is modern, it's fully fibreglass and has low hours. Come see it for yourself, there's not much that can go wrong with it. If you want to arrange a survey then please feel free to do so.
What’s wrong with it?
It's 10 years old and while it looks and drives terrific there are some signs of its age. Last year it started to show spider cracks that can be easily filled. We just not had the time and my health this year won't permit. There are a couple of nicks but nothing given her age. We've incorporated in the price these imperfections. These are all minor but we want to be upfront.

The MacGregor 26M is a dagger-board equipped fractional sloop motorsailer for those who wish to have the ability to outrun a change in the weather or return to port quickly after a leisurely day under sail.
Thanks to the detachable, hinged mast with a system for single-handed raising, lowering and securing for transport, the lack of a fixed deep keel, tilt engine and rudders, the boat can be trailered on conventional bunk or roll-on trailer.
Under sail, the boat can make 7 MPH and under power the 60 HP Evinrude E-TEC outboard will enable the boat to plane at over 20 MPH, and with 24 gallons of fuel, it will do that for quite a distance.
At the pedestal wheel helm is the throttle / shift for the engine, keyed ignition, a remote for the VHF transceiver, Garmin GPS mapper and autopilot.
Down below are for and aft berths, a head with porta-potty, a dinette, sink and storage compartments, enough to sleep and provision at least four.
The MacGregor 26 is a very popular boat, first introduced in 1986, with five thousand being produced in various variations since, this model, the 26M, was produced from 2002 until 2013.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. Comfort Ratio
