I did the tour to icacos island and palomino with the captain Jay, pablito and I forgot the tall guy name but three of them were great! We had a blast on our tour. Drinks were amazing. The crew was making sure we were safe and the most important part make sure we had fun and we enjoy the tour. Thanks for everything !! I will be back.

The spot chosen for snorkeling was just amazing. Flamenco beach is definitely a must. But what made a difference is the awesome Sail Getaways crew. All of them were super attentive and nice with us. They went above and beyond to ensure our trip was perfect. Not once I had to order for a refill of my drink. 11 out of 10, 100% recommended, I'll definitely repeat.

Was all of our first time and it was so beautiful and fun. We got to see a barracuda, big jellyfish and a bunch of other little fish. We enjoyed the guys explaining everything, Oscar was fun and kept us entertained since the music wasn't working haha. Loved that lunch and alcohol was included, was so worth the money!

We went with a friend to visit Culebra Island and everything was very nice, the trip was very pleasant, the guides were very attentive, VERY good music and food, I recommend them, 10/10!!

My friend and I took the tour to Tamarindo and Flamenco beach and it was amazing. The weather was perfect which made the ride super smooth. We were a fortunate group to enjoy a beautiful day. It was our first time experience and we loved it. We are beginner swimmers (to say the least) and the gentlemen were kind enough to get in the water with us so we wouldn’t miss the opportunity. Great quick getaway for our group of 13. Quick boat ride to snorkel, excellent fish viewing and lunch. Then a quick boat ride to Flamenco Beach to wander around. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and patient.

We took the three-in-one catamaran getaway on New Year's Day with Omar and Arturo. Our group was 2 adults a 9 year old and a 5 year old. All of us had an amazing time. Omar and Arturo were awesome sailors/hosts/guides making sure they got us to Icacos safely for snorkeling, answered all our questions, taught us about Puerto Rico and even served us delicious drinks and snacks. Important: If you tend to get seasick, we remind you that you can take an over-the-counter remedy with food at least 1 hour before the trip. You can contact us the day before your trip to get the latest update on water conditions. Frequently Asked Questions What to bring along? The most important thing to bring is a great attitude and a fun spirit. We also highly recommend beach towels, sunglasses, sunscreen (no spray), camera to capture the fun, and any snacks you may want onboard. We recommend that you wear a bathing suit under light clothing and bring dry clothes for the ride home. We also provide all Snorkeling equipment including Mask, Snorkel, Fins and flotation devices. (all gear is cleaned and sterilized before every trip ) What are the medical requirements? You should know how to swim and must inform us if you have any allergies, back or heart problems, and if anybody in the group is pregnant upon making the reservation. We have first aid equipment onboard and all our crew members are trained in first aid and CPR. But if evacuation is necessary it can take 45-60 minutes to get a rescue boat back to the mainland. Our Motor Vessel Trips travel at higher speeds in open waters and are not appropriate for pregnant women, those with recent surgeries, back injuries and children under 6 yrs of age. Are there age restrictions for passengers onboard? No there is no age limit. It’s fun for the whole family! However, keep in mind that children need to be supervised by parent or guardian at all times. Also because we are a smaller vessel our boat requires seniors to be mobile and in good physical condition to navigate onboard. Don’t forget to inform us if you have any back or heart problems upon making the reservation. Isla de Palominos

Located some 3.5 nautical miles east of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 104 acres. It is one of a few private islands that exist throughout Puerto Rico. Part of the island is on lease to El Conquistador Hotel to be used as the hotel’s beach. About a quarter-mile south of Palominos island lies Cayo Palominitos, which is a one-acre sandy key with tropical vegetation perfect for swimming or snorkeling.

Isla de Lobos

Located some 1.5 nautical miles east of Cayo Icacos, it has a size of approximately five acres. It is also one of a few private islands throughout Puerto Rico. In the early ’60s, the island hosted a very exclusive hotel, which ran into financial difficulties and was abandoned for a great part of the ’70s and ’80s until it was bought by a local family and converted into a paradise vacation home. Surrounded by small keys and coral reefs, it is great for snorkeling.

Cayo Icacos

Located some four nautical miles northeast of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 163 acres. It is part of a chain of small islands, keys, and coral reefs known as La Reserva Natural de la Cordillera. The island hosts a fairly large amount of marine life, coral reefs, birds, and land iguanas. It is the perfect setting for snorkeling, swimming, diving, and beachcombing. It gets its name from the large number of Icacos bushes on the island. The Icacos is a small sour fruit, which grows to about the size of a key lime. When ready to be picked, they are pale yellow in color and come off the bush quite easily. The best way to eat them is cooked in heavy syrup.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Tens of thousands of customers remained without power across Puerto Rico on Tuesday, a week after Ernesto swiped the U.S. territory as a tropical storm . Authorities pledged to restore electricity to everyone by the weekend.

The National Weather Service issued yet another excessive heat advisory, warning of “dangerously hot and humid conditions.”

More than 40,000 out of nearly 1.5 million customers remained without power in the afternoon. All schools should have electricity by late Tuesday, officials said, and noted that some 80% of emergency medical clinics, which exclude hospitals, have power.

The northeast coastal town of Luquillo, popular with tourists, reported the highest number of outages, with 30% of clients without power. The towns and cities of Fajardo, Río Grande and Yabucoa were also affected.

Juan Saca, president of Luma Energy, a private consortium that oversees the transmission and distribution of power in Puerto Rico, said the company was “working 24 hours a day,” but that alongside the outages blamed on the storm, there’s a deficit in generation.

Up to 70,000 clients could be temporarily left in the dark late Tuesday, and another 90,000 were already hit Monday by a manual reduction in power to Puerto Rico’s grid.

“It’s very annoying, I don’t want to minimize that,” Saca told reporters, stressing that those outages are brief.

Luma has come under fire ever since it took over transmission and distribution in June 2021 as Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Authority struggles to restructure more than $9 billion in debt.

Recently, a growing number of officials, including those seeking votes during an election year, have called for the government to cancel Luma’s contract .

Gov. Pedro Pierluisi has backed Luma’s work and its swift response in the wake of Ernesto. “In the span of three days, already 96% of the population had electric service,” he said Monday.

During the storm, which spun past the island last Tuesday and Wednesday, a peak of 750,000 clients were without power. Officials blamed trees that fell on power lines and high winds.

However, anger has persisted across an island of 3.2 million people with a more than 40% poverty rate and where few can afford generators or solar panels.

“With all the damage caused by the storm, and LUMA Energy’s inefficiency in powering with precision and agility, Puerto Rico urgently needs other, more reliable energy sources,” said Jesús Hernández Arroyo, president of the island’s House energy commission.

Puerto Rico’s Energy Bureau questioned why the average outage duration per customer increased by 9% from fiscal year 2023 to 2024, for a total of 1,448 minutes.

Julio Aguilar, Luma’s director of reliability and distribution automation, said at Tuesday’s news conference that weather and other things can contribute to a rise and fall in outages within one year, and that it takes five years to establish a base and metrics.

“The improvements are happening,” he said “They will be seen.”

Puerto Rico’s power grid remains fragile after Hurricane Maria razed it in September 2017 as a powerful Category 4 storm, though the grid already was crumbling before that, due to a lack of maintenance and investment.

Hurricane Ernesto continues to bring life-threatening conditions to East Coast, forecasters say

Hurricane Ernesto  continued to send powerful swells toward the U.S. East Coast Monday afternoon, generating "dangerous" beach conditions as the storm moved further out into the Atlantic Ocean, according to forecasters.

Swells caused by Ernesto will continue to impact portions of the Bahamas, Bermuda, the U.S. East Coast and the Canadian east coast. Ernesto's center is expected to pass southeastern Newfoundland on Monday night and early Tuesday, when it is forecast to become extratropical.

"Life-threatening surf and rip current conditions are likely to continue in these areas during the next day or so," the Miami-based hurricane center said Monday. "In southeastern Newfoundland large breaking waves could bring the possibility of coastal flooding, particularly along southwest-facing shorelines from Burin east to Avalon regions." 

The National Weather Service posted a coastal flood advisory and warned of high risk from the rip currents along the Atlantic Coast through Monday evening. Forecasters said the currents "can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water."

Forecasters, citing local emergency management, said a 41-year-old man drowned Saturday in a rip current at Surf City, North Carolina. Two men drowned Friday in separate incidents on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, but it was unclear whether rip currents from Ernesto were involved, officials told CBS News on Saturday.  

The National Hurricane Center said Ernesto remained a Category 1 hurricane on Monday. The storm was moving northeast and was expected to increase in speed but begin to weaken Monday evening. It was forecast to "lose tropical characteristics" within a day or so, the center said.   

Ernesto's swells come as the Northeast faces a system moving in from the Great Lakes. In Connecticut, that system unleashed what Gov. Ned Lamont called a " historic storm in some areas." He said that at least 100 people were evacuated by search and rescue teams on Sunday night after much of the state was battered with flash flooding and mudslides. 

"We are urging you to stay home if you can until the flooding has receded, and definitely do not ever attempt to drive through any flooded roads," Lamont said on Sunday. "A good number of roads in the western portion of the state are closed and are expected to remain closed for an extended period."

More showers and thunderstorms are expected in the area through Monday night, the National Weather Service said. 

Ernesto battered Bermuda as a hurricane

Ernesto made landfall in the tiny North Atlantic Island of Bermuda early Saturday morning as a Category 1 hurricane, knocking out power to thousands and dropping several inches of rain as residents hunkered down.

After slowly moving out away from the island, it was downgraded to a tropical storm — before becoming a hurricane again on Sunday.

Belco, Bermuda's utility provider, reported midday Sunday that more than 12,200 customers were without power, about 34% of the island. The storm also downed trees across the tiny and wealthy island.

Bermuda Security Minister Michael Weeks said Sunday morning that businesses were beginning to open in the tiny British territory after the storm passed and "we are on our way back to living a life of normalcy." There were no reports of major infrastructure damage, said Lyndon Raynor of Bermuda's Disaster Risk Reduction Mitigation Team.

Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Ernesto caused damage in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands last week. It passed north of the region as a tropical storm that managed to knock out power to hundreds of thousands of residents. At one point, 23 hospitals were operating on generators. Schools and numerous roads were also closed.

A spokesperson for Puerto Rico's electricity provider, LUMA Energy, told CBS News that at the outage's peak, 750,000 customers were without power. 

The U.S. Virgin Islands had about 46,000 out of power at one point on Wednesday — nearly all customers. As of Saturday morning, that number was down to about 7,000,  according to PowerOutage.us .

Rivers across Puerto Rico were swollen after nearly 10 inches of rain. 

Officials were forced to open floodgates at a dam along the La Plata River. Sirens warned residents in the nearby municipality of Toa Baja to evacuate their homes in case of flooding.

Puerto Rico's power grid was  wiped out in 2017 by Hurricane Maria , which slammed the island as a strong Category 4 storm.

"The government today is much better prepared," said Juan Saca, president and CEO of LUMA Energy. "… We have a plan that you can go into our website and take a look at the plan."

President Biden approved an  emergency declaration  for Puerto Rico, the White House said Tuesday night, authorizing FEMA to help with storm recovery. 

Ernesto is the fifth named storm so far of the Atlantic hurricane season, which has already proven to be  historic after Beryl reached record strength  at the beginning of the season in above-average temperatures of the Gulf of Mexico.

NOAA has predicted an above-normal season, with 17-25 named storms, eight to 13 hurricanes, and four to seven major hurricanes. The fifth-named storm typically doesn't form until  Aug. 22 , according to NOAA.
