Unique feature: steer by trimming the balance

Extremely smooth in the water, thanks to the hulls, which are optimised for rowing. Plenty of speed with just a little wind. A short mast and generous size sail (90.5 ft²) gives a lot of safety . And it is fast: Force 1-2 = 10 kph, Force 2-3 = 20 kph, Force 4-5 = 28 kph thanks to the lightweight hulls, the light overall weight of 75 kg (XCAT + sailing rig) and a unique mainsail that generates a very high power with its ingenious loop system

    Description

Forward rowing, backward rowing, or sup, the xcat row configuration does them all flawlessly., xcat rowvista®.

With traditional rowing, you are pulling the boat backwards, and your line of sight is opposite of the direction in which you are traveling. With RowVista, you're pulling the boat forward, and your line of sight is forward so you are facing the direction you are headed, much like driving a car or operating a powerboat. You will feel the breeze in your face and you can row at a relaxed pace without fatigue. Moderately fit people can row much farther than they think with RowVista.

If you want to be able to row forward and sail at the same time, choose the RowVista System from the dropdown menu on the left and add an XCAT Sailing Kit from our accessories below.

    XCAT RowMotion®

The XCAT RowMotion uses a classic reverse rowing motion—the way that it’s been done since rowing was invented. The stable catamaran design provides a smooth safe ride on the water while an adjustable stop limits movement to the rear so that you can row without using foot straps. This is extremely beneficial if you want to row in flip flops or barefoot in the summer.

The XCAT RowMotion is available with or without oars. Choose the option that best suits your needs from the dropdown menu on the left.

    XCAT Row Innovations

Designed with rowing in mind, the XCAT is built to excel at rowing while providing an unparalleled platform that can withstand coastal conditions and constant powerboat wakes.

    XCAT RowMotion Image

    XCAT Row Features & Benefits

The world’s first hard-hulled catamaran that can be transported on the roof of your car and assembled in 12 minutes—all without sacrificing quality or performance.

    • Wide catamaran design lets you row in rougher conditions.
    • Low to the water design keeps you in touch with the water.
    • Concept2 oarlocks allow you to use our oars or your old C2 oars from college.
    • Anodized aluminum frame is corrosion resistant and will keep your boat looking new for years to come.
    • HDPE hulls are ultra durable and can handle hard groundings or collisions with underwater obstructions.
    • Fully adjustable positioning for oarlocks, roller seat and foot stretchers.

    High-Quality Textilene Image

    High-Quality Textilene®

This high tech material is used for the trampoline. It is UV resistant, hard wearing, breathable and self tensioning. This material is comfortable enough to sleep on but firm enough to comfortably stand and walk around. It is also durable enough to bring a large dog along without worry of damage.

    Motor Mount Image

    Motor Mount Included

All XCAT boats include a motor mount attached to the rear crossbar. This mount can handle up to a 3 hp outboard (Red Beard recommends either the EP Carry or Torqeedo 1103CL). If you don’t want/need the mount, you can unbolt the wooden motor mount from the crossbar for a clean aesthetic with reduced windage. Check out the   XCAT Extra Crossbar With Outboard Bracket.

    Bow Net Storage Image

    Bow Net Storage (Optional)

This optional bow net and bowsprit allows you to store gear without cluttering the main trampoline area. With a rowing only XCAT, you will need to purchase the rowing version of the Bow Net as it includes a bowsprit.

    Included Bags Image

    Bags Included

Every XCAT Row includes two high quality padded storage and transport bags. One holds the trampoline and the other has wheels and holds the crossbars, oars, rudder (optional) and most other accessories. There will even be room left over to hold a sailing package as well.

    Oar Blade Feathering Image

    Oar Blade Feathering (RowVista)

The RowVista system allows easy feathering by rolling your hands forward. There are hard stops at the feathered and square positions to make rowing easier for newbies and relaxing for advanced rowers.

    All Carbon Sculls Image

    All Carbon Sculls (RowMotion)

Our all carbon 2 piece oars feature Martinoli grips and an adjustable cuff to accommodate any size rower.

    Anodized Aluminum Frame Image

    Anodized Aluminum Frame

The high quality anodized aluminum frame resists dings and dents as well as being very resistant to seawater and UV degradation.

    Foam Filled Hulls Image

    EPP Particle Foam Filled Hulls

This foam provides structural support to the HDPE hull skin material but also makes the XCAT unsinkable.

    HDPE Hull Skin Image

    HDPE Hull Skin

Think plastic cutting board material, it is weatherproof, impact resistant and dirt repellent. These hulls are easy to clean and can withstand hard groundings on an oyster bed, even though the boat floats in ankle height water.

    XCAT Row Technical Specs

    xcat sailing catamaran

SAIL IT. ROW IT. POWER IT. GO AHEAD, IT’S YOUR MOVE.

The XCAT combines versatility, portability and performance in a way that no other boat on the market can. The XCAT Row is perfect for achieving your fitness goals, or use it on your next river or lake rowing adventure. You can maximize the XCAT’s versatility by powering it with an optional outboard motor, or add a sailing kit to XCAT RowVista for the ability to row and sail at the same time.

    THE XCAT BASIC PLATFORM

Whether you are planning to use the XCAT as a rowboat, a sailboat, or better yet, both, it all starts with a great platform—the XCAT Basic. Made from only 5 parts, the XCAT Basic is easy to transport on the top of your car or SUV and assembles in about 2 minutes or less. The frame is durable and lightweight, made from anodized aluminum for durability and corrosion resistance against seawater. The hulls, which are the single heaviest component of the boat at 38 lbs each, have skins made from a sheet of recyclable HDPE. The sheet is thermoformed into shape then filled with floatation foam—this combines for a portable and unsinkable boat.

    xcat sailing catamaran

The XCAT is a super stable platform for stand-up paddling. This boat can easily be walked around on and even surfed in waves. This is the perfect boat to SUP with a friend, especially for longer distances in coastal waters. If you want to use the XCAT Row like a stand-up-paddleboard (SUP) choose the XCAT SUP from the dropdown menu on the left. During the 2018 Everglades Challenge Red Beard’s very own Alex captained an X CAT   Sail with RowVista.

The   XCat SUP   lets you stand up and paddle for fitness or fun. The catamaran stability, coupled with the optional tiller-fix accessory helps keep you on track whether you paddle alone or with a friend.

    THE XCAT ROW CONFIGURATION

Here’s where the flexibility, versatility and unique functionality of the XCAT’s modular design system really shines. The XCAT Row is a smooth and stable rowing platform, thanks to being built atop the lightweight XCAT Basic. At Red Beard Sailing, we’ve pre-configured the   XCAT Row   into three different packages: the   XCAT SUP,   the   XCAT RowMotion   (available with or without oars) and the XCAT   RowVista,   our proprietary forward-facing oar system, to accommodate your rowing/paddling style.

    xcat sailing catamaran

    XCAT ROWMOTION®

The   XCAT RowMotion   is a traditional rowing system—available with 2-piece carbon fiber oars—that takes advantage of the catamaran’s stable platform resulting in a safe, comfortable ride. The XCAT RowMotion comes outfitted with Concept2 oarlocks which allows you to use your own oars if you’d like!

    xcat sailing catamaran

    XCAT ROWVISTA®

The   XCAT Row Vista   is an award-winning forward rowing masterpiece that not only allows you to row in the direction you’re facing, but with an optional add-on sailing kit, you can both row and sail (downwind) at the same time.

    THE XCAT SAIL CONFIGURATION

So you like to go fast—like really fast—like 15 knots fast? Behold the   XCAT Sail   configuration. In this sailing configuration, the XCAT Basic gets a short mast and a generous sail area that provides plenty of speed with just a little bit of wind. The mainsail generates high-power thanks to its proprietary loop system. Not only is the XCAT Sail fast, but it’s also the most stable boat we sell, capable of handling big water and bad weather, with a built-in, heave-to feature that will work even in the strongest of winds.

    xcat sailing catamaran

With a tool-free assembly time of just 12 minutes or less you’ll be on the water in no time.

    XCAT Sailing Kit Add-On

If you want the best of both worlds with the ability to row and sail your XCAT Row, this is the accessory for you. The Sailing Kit has everything you need to start harnessing the wind.

    • When combined with an XCAT Row model you can row it or sail it to your favorite fishing spot, or have versatility for your next adventure.
    • Easily switch between rowing and sailing in 60 seconds without any hard work or tools.
    • Easy to sail system allows novice sailors to “learn the ropes” without a large risk of capsizing.
    • If you can’t get back upwind, just drop the sails and row home!
    • Recommended Hiking Seats option allows you to stow your oars behind the seats keeping the trampoline clutter free.

Accessory Kit Includes: Mast, Mainsail, Genoa, Bowsprit, Rudder and all running and standing rigging.

    Rig and Sails

    Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

    Classic hull speed formula:

    Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

    Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

    Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

    SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

    • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
    • D : Displacement in pounds.

    Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

    Ballast / Displacement * 100

    Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

    D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

    • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
    • LWL: Waterline length in feet

    Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

    Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

    • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
    • LOA: Length overall in feet
    • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

    Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

    CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

C CLASS CATAMARAN rule began with the creation of the International Catamaran Challenge Cup, first sponsored, in 1960, by the Sea Cliff Yacht Club, located in Long Island, NY USA. The event, loosely called the Little Americas Cup, continues to this day, although only intermittantly in recent years. Among development classes, it is recognized as one with the fewest restrictions. Boats that are built to the C Class rule are among the most advanced and fastest sailboats in the world for closed course racing. Restrictions are as follows: A crew of 2. Maximum LOA is 25’. Maximum Beam is 14’. Maximum Sail Area is 300 sq feet. (For the past 20+ years, the sails have been multi element solid wings with varying methods of control) There is no restriction on weight or design of foils. The photo is of the US boat ‘Cogito’. XCAT - The Next Beach Cat for the Record Books

XCAT HAS WON SAIL MAGAZINE'S BEST BOAT OF 2017!

XCAT is the perfect multi-sport catamaran. It is the ultimate sailing, motoring, and rowing machine all rolled into one amazing boat. XCAT has taken everything you know about boating and flipped it on it's head!

Instead of buying a boat much like you buy your cable plan you can now buy a beach cat a la carte. You can choose a pre-assembled package that includes the most common setups, or you can pick and choose what features you want.

    • Just the boat
    • Configured with sailing package
    • Configured with RowMotion
    • Configured with RowVista
    • Any combination of features and accessories!

See all of the available XCAT options here!

    X-Cat Sailing

The XCAT is a superb sailboat, With 90 square feet of sail area and weighing in at only 165 pounds the boat boasts a SA/D ratio of 42.5, only slightly less than a Hobie Getaway's 54 with 180 square feet of sail area and weighing 390 pounds. The advantages to a lighter boat are decreased tendency to heel, better control and faster acceleration. The sailors are the heaviest part of the XCAT, whereas with a Getaway, it is still the boss. You are far more apt to fly a hull and capsize a Getaway than you are with an XCAT. The XCAT converts the heeling winds on a Getaway into neck-breaking acceleration on an XCAT!

    X-Cat Row Motion Pro

XCAT is a rower's dream! XCAT does something you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else: Row in the direction you are facing. The XCAT RowVista has an innovative rowing design which allows the rower to row as they typically would (with a sliding seat and all) and actually be able to see where he is going instead of only looking where they have already been!

RowVista also features an innovative oar design. The blade of the oar rotates automatically into the horizontal position when it moves out of the water. As soon as the oar lifts out of the water it rotates when the handle is pressed downwards. We call this patented system ABR - Automatic Blade Rotation. Rowing is much easier to learn with the RowVista system than with conventional-style rowing because the ABR system ensures an efficient rowing action.

    Torqeedo Travel 503 Long Shaft

The lasts piece of the puzzle is no slouch. The XCAT also features an optional rear crossbar with an outboard mounting bracket. This will allow anyone to mount any outboard up to 3 hp to the back of the boat for when the wind just won't cooperate. The Travel 503 is our outboard of choice as they don't require gas or other combustibles, they start with the push of a button, they are completely waterproof and can even charge any phones or speakers etc that uses a USB cable. The outboard would mount on the stern rail and the boat steers via the tiller. Don't let the wind best you, or dictate how far you can sail before turning back, with this option you can sail until you can sail no more, then motor home! The Torqeedo 503 Travel even has optional accessories for charging the battery via a small solar panel.

    X-Cat easy to carry

The XCAT can be car topped by a normal person. There is no need to be an NFL athlete to carry this boat from your car to the beach because no one part of the boat is too heavy for an average person to handle. The heaviest part of any XCAT are the hulls weighing in at a very manageable 38 lbs each.

Watch the below video to see just how easy it is to set up the boat. If you keep watching you will see fast the boat accelerates when the sheets are trimmed, if this boat could do a burn-out, it would!

We understand that inflatable boats are not for everyone, which is how we found XCAT. Just because you don't like the inflatable technology doesn't mean you should be denied the chance to own an ultra-portable sailboat!

    MiniCat 420

Performs as good as it looks.

The MiniCat 420 is our best selling MiniCat model. It fits a wide range of functionality with the ability to mount an outboard and a total weight capacity of 992 pounds! This is the perfect family sailor. Easy enough for a few kids to manage, but turns into a rocket ship when put into capable hands. The MiniCat 420 is the best value in sailing. Period. It will only fly a hull when you want it to and will ghost along efficiently in the lightest of air.

The MiniCat 420 comes in 5 different trim levels: Instinct, Emotion, Evoque, Laura Dekker Edition, and the Red Beard Exclusive Carbon model. All 420 models include a continuous line jib furler. You can learn more about each trim level below.

Setup is easy!  Click here to watch the full MiniCat 420 setup video.

    MiniCat 420 Instinct

The Instinct is the base model of the 420. The Instinct has a boom-less mainsail but does not utilize a dedicated forestay or allow for the addition of a gennaker. We recommend buying the higher 420 trim levels due to the lack of dedicated forestay on the Instinct.

    MiniCat 420 Emotion

The Emotion is a great boat at a great price. You have an aluminum bowsprit, boom, and an aluminum. The Emotion uses a mostly mono-film mainsail and a dacron jib.

    MiniCat 420 Evoque

The Evoque is the carbon fiber version of the Emotion, the boom, bowsprit, and rudder are all carbon fiber. This saves a few pounds and the boat gets a color scheme change. The mainsail uses a reinforced laminated film and dacron with a dacron jib.

    MiniCat Laura Dekker Edition

The Laura Dekker edition has an awesome color scheme over a dacron jib and a poly-x racing mainsail. The Laura Dekker also boasts a traveler and all the carbon fiber bits from the Evoque.

The 420 Carbon is an Evoque but instead of an aluminum mast, we have replaced it with an ultra-lightweight carbon fiber mast. We have also added a traveler to bring this boat up to the highest performance possible.

    MiniCat 420 Features & Benefits

The MiniCat 420 is a boat that combines premium and lightweight materials that allow you to spend time on the water without the need for a slip or trailer! This travel ready sailboat is perfect for fast solo sailing as well a safe and family friendly daysailer.

    mini catamarans

    Windowed Sails

The jib and main sails on the MiniCat boats all have windows in them. This allows you to be more aware of your surroundings. Even with the colorful sails, sometimes other boaters are not paying attention. These windows allow you to see 360° and be responsive to your surroundings.

    mini catamarans

    Continuous Line Roller Furling Jib

All MiniCat 420 models are equipped with a continuous line roller furler. This allows you to put away the jib sail, on either tack without any worry or possibility of a snag, clog, or line override that the single-line furlers are notorious for. You can also store your jib furled (folded in half) to make boat set-up and take-down quicker and easier.

    mini catamarans

    Fully Battened Square-top Mainsail

The square-top mainsail provides this beachcat with more than enough power to have a fun day on the water. Fully battened for superior sail shape, even in light winds. The 420 can easily reach speeds up to 12 knots and some have even pushed their boat faster than 16 knots!

    mini catamarans

    Heytex 5509 PVC

All MiniCats, including the MiniCat 420, have hulls made in Germany with Heytex 5509 PVC. This is top shelf PVC and has a longer life expectancy than typical boat PVC. This boat fabric is no different than other PVC with regards to repair. It is easily repairable by an amateur, so no more expensive boat yard repair bills!

    mini catamarans

    Powder Coated Lightweight Frame

MiniCats are built with lightweight aluminum frames that have been powder coated using techniques that are time tested and durable. The rugged, long-lasting frame uses the lightweight and durable materials for both transport ease and sailing performance.

    mini catamarans

    Ergonomic Trampoline

The MiniCat 420 has a feature rich trampoline, complete with plenty of places to hold on with reinforced handles in each corner. There are also pockets for the halyards and even a place to clip drybags in a snag free pouch. There is a hiking strap long enough for at least 2 pairs of feet and bungee lacing at the base of the mast for stowing larger gear. There are also diagonal webbed straps sewn on the trampoline to provide extra grip.

    mini catamarans

    Low Aspect Ratio Keels

The MiniCat 420 is equipped with long shallow keels under each hull which contribute to the MiniCat’s ease of use and great sailing characteristics. The keels allow the 420 to be sailed in very shallow waters. You need only fly a hull when you want; it is very easy to prevent capsizes thanks to these keels that resist rotation of the hulls. The keels are set aft of the mast, which allows the 420 to tack much quicker than other hard hulled catamarans.

    mini catamarans

Small Pack-down for Easy Storage and Transport

The MiniCat 420 packs away into two easy-to-manage bags. These bags are well-organized to keep things from getting damaged in storage. The MiniCat bags and packaway are better than other portable boats on the market. These bags can be stored under your bed, in a closet or checked as luggage on an airplane. Call your airline for a quote on oversized luggage fees, they can vary by airline. Wheeled storage bags are easy to transport and move around without heavy lifting.

ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus Long Shaft

ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus Long Shaft

Three reasons you need epropulsion for your boat: clean, easy, quiet..

With a seamlessly attachable lithium battery and outstanding efficiency, the Spirit 1.0 Plus is a great alternative to rowing or a noisy gas outboard. The Spirit 1.0 Plus can do everything a 3 HP outboard motor can, but is lighter, cleaner, quieter, and more convenient.

Easily push a dinghy to and from shore or us it to reliably and efficiently dock small to medium racing sailboats. When needed, the large prop provides more low RPM thrust than its equivalent gas outboard.

ePropulsion has mastered the direct drive motor. The only noise this motor makes is the sound of the boat's hull passing through the water, it is literally quieter than a whisper (no high pitched whine like other motors on the market).

Note: Because many customers choose to purchase multiple batteries, the Spirit 1.0 Plus does not include a battery pack. Be sure to add one or more to your cart below.

    Package Includes:

ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus Long Shaft, integrated tiller, on-board computer, GPS-based range calculation, Motor Mount, and 2x emergency magnetic stop key.

    ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Battery

    Resources & Support

We bought a Carbon 420 in Nov 2020, and have sailed it almost every week since then, sometimes twice a week! Alex is great to work with, answers every question, and is extremely knowledgeable. He truly loves the sport!

One of the first things we did was intentionally capsize it to see how hard it was to right... Almost too easy! It's super easy for 1 person to right. And the carbon mast is super light and easy to step. So glad we got the carbon version!

We find that it is highly stable, but very nimble. And it can really fly! We love that combination. It's fun and easy!

    Some accessories we highly recommend:

Flextail pump. Cuts inflation time tremendously. And deflates fast to make storage really easy.

Upgraded shackles. Huge difference in knowing they are secure, easy to check, and so easy to turn. Worth it!

    Front trampoline.

    Rope ladder.

    Outboard attachment.

Trolley wheels. Because we added weight with an electric motor, we made a telescoping extension that hooks over the trolley axle. Now we launch and retrieve easily even at a ramp. The boat just floats on and off the trolley. Super easy and fast!

Overall, we highly recommend the Carbon 420. It's perfect for us. We spend wonderful days on the water, sailing, exploring, snorkeling, and just loving the sound of water against the boat. And we definitely recommend Red Beard Sailing... Alex has the best service and the best prices!

So happy with this purchase four seasons in. It’s a serious boat with all the lines and controls exactly where you want them. The light weight makes it easy to go in the lightest wind, and the rugged engineering feels solid even when it’s up on one pontoon in 20 knots. One person can easily get it righted if you manage to flip it (which doesn’t happen often).

Alex has provided great service the whole way. I haven’t needed much, but he is responsive and knowledgeable. I have patched a pontoon, gotten some rigging replicated at West Marine, and attached a trolling motor to tool around when there’s no wind. All of that has been easy enough, and I see years of great sailing ahead of me in my Minicat 420.

Can’t say enough positive things about the boat and Red Beard.

I bought my Minicat 420 Laura Dekker edition from Alex in fall 2018. I didn't get it onto the water until summer of 2019, when I took it up north for two weeks of lake sailing. What a blast we had with this boat! The Minicat was much more fun to sail than I hoped, and more stable and easy to handle in unpredictable, gusty lake winds than I expected - we took it out almost every day, in wind that ranged from 6 to 22 kts. While the Sunfish sailors capsized around us we just zoomed across the lake, gleefully zipping through every unpredictable puff.

I've never sailed a cat before, only keelboats and cruisers, but tacking was straightforward and no hiking out was necessary even in big gusts (with two of us on the boat). Yet despite the stability the Minicat is a fast and fun sail. I would highly recommend it as a good boat for beginners - responsive enough to learn quickly but stable enough to not throw you in the water for every misstep.

The only drawback is assembly time - although you'll really appreciate how well-designed it is while putting it together! Even with Alex's lesson (wonderful and much needed) on how to assemble the boat our first solo attempt took 2 hours. It may take us many outings us to get the advertised 45 minute assembly time. So for me, the Minicat is going to be more a 'camping/vacation' trip boat than a 'go solo sailing for the day' boat. But that's what I really wanted it for - so I am perfectly okay with that.

I am a novice sailor, but a former wind-surfer...so I appreciate a bit of adrenaline. I love the MiniCat 420 for its stability, maneuverability, versatility, and of course portability. It sails great in light-winds, but also offers the potential for performance sailing in higher and more challenging conditions. I sail in and among the laser class at my local marina/yacht club, and the MiniCat is a definite head-turner against those starchier while sail dinghies. It also holds its own, or outperforms, depending on who is at the till. I have sailed my local lakes, and also off-shore in protected waters in Maine. It is simply a brilliant boat! Alex at Red Beard Sailing helped me set the boat up the first time (very helpful), and customer service has been first rate ever since. Highly recommend the boat and the company.

For a long time I have dreamed to own a sailboat, but don't have the space to have a towable one. Storage and transport were major concerns since I live an hour and a half from the nearest sailable lake. I learned about Minicat and was completely amazed about its features. Alex did a good job taking me and my family for a demo sail and the deal was closed the same day. Now we own a 420 emotion and it is our dream turned into reality. For novices like us, it took just a couple of hours on the water to learn by ourselves how to take the boat to where we want to go, it is very stable, fun and easy to sail. The service at Red Beard Sailing is not limited to the sale, we know we can count on them for whatever we need, five stars for sure!

    FRAME & DECK

The MiniCat 420 frame, to which the floats attach, is produced from light-weight aluminium and the frame parts are powder coated. The trampoline is produced from high strength woven plastic fabric. The frame is attached to the floats by means of welded-on ‘flags’, which are inserted into the pockets on the floats.

The MiniCat 420 is equipped with two inflatable floats 4.2m length and 45 cm diameters. The floats are made of reinforced Heytex 5509, highly resistant to abrasion and very hard wearing. This material and production technology was adopted from the production of ‘white-water’ rafts. The floats are single-chamber with a combined load capacity of 530 kg.

To fully enjoy your sailing you must confidently control your boat. It is imperative to minimize ‘side-sail’, especially when sailing against the wind. To achieve this keel fins were designed to attach under each float. Their design and shape gives excellent performance yet still allows the boat to be sailed in very shallow water without the risk of damage.

The mast consists of three sections of equal length, slotted together. The length of the assembled mast is 5.05 m. The mast is from alloy tubing and has a groove for the sail attachment. This construction ensures high rigidity and strength for ultimate safety, performance and enjoyment.

The MiniCat 420 is equipped with a main sail and a jib. The total area of the sails is 9.7 sqm (main sail 6.5 sqm, jib 3.2 sqm). The material ‘Dimension Polyant’ is used with a surface density of 175 – 240 g/m. The mail sail of the 420 Emotion and Evoque is made of a transparent Sport MonoFilm. Both the main sail and the jib have transparent windows to ensure better visibility and security while sailing.

MiniCat 420 is fitted with one rudder in the craft centreline, attached to the frame. The automatic cleat will unlock the rudder rope in case the boat runs aground, thus protecting it from damage. The design of the rudder allows it to be raised at a 90 degree angle, so at the shore or in very shallow water there is no danger of damage. The rudder can be locked in both positions, raised or lowered. The tiller arm is jointed allowing full 360 degree movement. The rudder on 420 Instinct and Emotion is made of aluminium, on 420 Evoque, 420 Laura Dekker and 420 15th Anniversary is made of Carbon Fibre.

Fittings from the companies Ronstan, Seasure, Clamcleat and Suchomel are used throughout the MiniCat. All spare parts and accessories are available. See our SPARE PARTS & ACCESSORIES CATALOGUE.

MiniCat allows all to sail: young (and not so young) beginners and experienced sailors, apartment dwellers, and superyacht owners. Packed in 1-3 bags, the MiniCat inflatable catamaran is easy to transport by car, boat, or airplane. Just inflate, assemble, and sail!

The MiniCat 420 is the most versatile model in the lineup, accommodating up to 4 adults and with most models supporting the optional gennaker, trapeze, and motor mount. On the Emotion and premium models, upwind performance is the best, with a boom complete with outhaul and vang to provide better control of sail shape.

The redesigned MiniCat 310 is based on the original MiniCat that Laura Dekker discovered on her circumnavigation. It provides great low wind performance with both jib and main sails, yet still packs into a single bag.

Elevate your sailing experience with the MiniCat, the top-notch inflatable catamaran sailboat. Unlock the thrill of portable, lightweight, high-performance sailing.
