Any Carver model ending in 7 or 8 is a boat made with a solid fiberglass running surface with balsa hull sides (depending on boat size as my 2757 and 310 Santego both have no balsa in the hull). As a former owner of both Mainship and Carver, I am here to tell you Carver build quality is better than Mainship. Overall design, engineering, and access was better on the Carver. The 400/404 is the same boat as the 355/356 with cockpit added. Those boats are a great compromise of size as it relates to handling.
