Tiara Yachts Expands LS Line with Largest Outboard Model to Date, the 56 LS

56 LS view from waterline

Holland, Mich., (August 27, 2024)  -  Tiara Yachts , the family-owned manufacturer of American-made luxury watercrafts, announced today the addition of the 56 LS to its portfolio of Luxury Sport vessels. The largest and most ambitious of Tiara’s outboard models to date, the 56 LS will feature the sophisticated exterior and interior amenities the LS lineup is known for, while also offering the power of four Mercury Verado 600 V12 outboard engines.

“The Luxury Sport formula has been a successful one for Tiara, elevating the day yachting experience with versatile social zones and luxurious amenities. The 56 LS builds upon that foundation. Everything is amplified on this boat,” Tiara Yachts CEO, Tom Slikkers, said. “I’m confident our customers are going to be just as excited as we are about this addition to our portfolio.”

Tiara’s first quad engine outboard model, the 56 LS will have a top speed of 57 MPH, making it one of the fastest Tiara ever built. The integrated electronics package includes Garmin ®  Marine Navigation Systems.

The exterior of the 56 LS offers boaters several social spaces including a fully equipped galley that overlooks the aft cockpit. Two unique aft cockpit module options focused on entertaining or fishing allow each vessel to be customized. Port and starboard Hullside terraces expand the beam by more than six feet.

Below deck, two staterooms and two private heads can comfortably welcome five guests for overnight or extended stays.

“Our LS line has been a favorite of our customers and we're eager to showcase this new addition to our portfolio,” said Andrew Bartlett, Director of Design at Tiara.  “Our customers will find multiple features onboard that allow them to enjoy the water, entertain family and friends and comfortably stay overnight. As outboard models continue to have a resurgence in the boating industry, we’re excited to introduce another Tiara to the market.”

The launch of the 56 LS comes amidst several milestones for Tiara Yachts including:

·       The celebration of its  50 th  year of business

·       The launch of the newly  revamped 43 LE

·       The EX 54 being named a   Boating Industry  Top Product of 2024

The 56 LS will be debuting at the 2025 Miami International Boating Show.

10 of the Most Niche YouTube Video Essays You Absolutely Need to Watch

10 of the Most Niche YouTube Video Essays You Absolutely Need to Watch

YouTube’s algorithm is designed to keep your eyeballs glued to video after video (after video, after video...). The dangers of this rabbit hole are well-documented . However, for every ideological radicalization enabled by YouTube, I like to think there’s at least one innocent, newfound pop culture obsession discovered at 3 a.m. via the greatest medium of our time: the Video Essay.

The genre of YouTube video essays is more interesting than it sounds. Sure, any piece of video content that advances a central thesis could be considered a “video essay.” But there are key components of video essays that elevate the genre into so much more than simply a YouTube version of a written article. Over the past few years, the term “YouTube video essay” has grown to evoke connotations of niche fascination and discovery. For creators, the field is highly competitive with strong personalities trying to get eyes on extremely in-depth analysis of a wide range of topics. The “niche” factor is especially important here. Ultimately, the hallmark of a good video essay is its ability to captivate you into watching hours of content about a subject matter you would have never expected to care about in the first place. Scary? Maybe. Fun? Definitely.

Whether you’re skeptical about the power of video essays, or you’re an existing fan looking for your next niche obsession, I’ve rounded up some of my personal favorite YouTube video essays for you to lean in and watch. This is not a comprehensive list by any means, and it largely reflects what the algorithm thinks (knows) I personally want to watch.

Other factors that influenced my selection process: The video essays needed to have a strong, surprising thesis—something other than a creator saying “ this thing good ” or “ this thing bad. ” These videos also stood out to me due to their sheer amount of thorough, hard-hitting evidence, as well as the dedication on the behalf of the YouTubers who chose to share with us hours upon hours of research into these topics.

And yes, I have watched all the hours of content featured here. I’m a professional.

Disney’s FastPass: A Complicated History

Let’s start strong with a documentary so premium, I can’t believe it’s free. Multiple articles and reviews have been dedicated to Defunctland’s video series about, well, waiting in line. I know what you’re thinking—the only thing that sounds more boring than waiting in line is watching a video about waiting in line. But Defunctland’s investigation into the history of Disneyland’s FastPass system has so much more to offer.

Class warfare. Human behavior. The perils of capitalism. One commenter under the video captures it well by writing “oddly informative and vaguely terrifying.” Since its launch in 2017, Kevin Perjurer’s entire Defunctland YouTube channel has become a leading voice in extremely thorough video essays. The FastPass analysis is one of the most rewarding of all of Defunctland’s in-depth amusement park coverage.

I won’t spoil it here, but the best part of the video is hands-down when Perjurer reveals an animated simulation of the theme park experience to test out how various line-reservation systems work. Again, no spoilers, but get ready for a wildly satisfying “gotcha” moment.

Personally, I’ve never had any interest one way or another about Disney-affiliated theme parks. I’ve never been, and I never planned on going. That’s the main reason I’m selling you on this video essay right off the bat. Defunctland is a perfect example of how the genre of video essays has such a high bar for investigative reporting, shocking analysis, and an ability to suck you in to a topic you never thought you’d care about.

THE Vampire Diaries Video

No list of video essays can get very far without including Jenny Nicholson , a true titan of the genre. Or, as one commenter puts it, “The power of Jenny Nicholson: getting me to watch an almost three hour long video about something I don’t care about.” I struggled to pick which of her videos to feature here, but at over seven million views, “THE Vampire Diaries Video” might just be Nicholson’s magnum opus. Once you break out the red string on a cork board, it’s safe to say that you’re in magnum opus territory.

I haven’t ever seen an episode of CW’s The Vampire Diaries , but since this video essay captivated me, I can safely say that I’m an expert on the show. Nicholson’s reputation as a knowledgeable, passionate, funny YouTuber is well-earned. She’s a proper geek, and watching her cultural analyses feel like I’m nerding out with one of my smartest friends. If you really don’t think The Vampire Diaries investigation is for you (and I argue that it’s for everyone), I recommend “ A needlessly thorough roast of Dear Evan Hansen ” instead.

In Search Of A Flat Earth

Did you think you could get through a YouTube video round-up without single mention of Flat Earthers? Wishful thinking.

“In Search of Flat Earth” is a beautiful, thoughtful video essay slash feature-length documentary. Don’t go into this video if you’re looking to bash and ridicule flat earth conspiracy theorists. Instead, Olson’s core argument takes a somewhat sympathetic gaze to the fact that Flat Earthers cannot be “reasoned” out of their beliefs with “science” or “evidence.” Plus, this video has a satisfying second-act plot twist. As Olson points out, “In Search of Flat Earth” could have an alternative clickbait title of “The Twist at 37 Minutes Will Make You Believe We Live In Hell.” Over the years,  Dan Olson of Folding Ideas has helped to popularize the entire video essay genre, and this one just might be his masterpiece.

The Rise and Fall of Teen Dystopias

Sarah Z is your go-to Gen Z cultural critic and explainer. The YouTuber brings her knack for loving-yet-shrewd analysis to dig into fandom culture, the YA book industry, and why the teen dystopia got beaten into the ground.

I’ve found that one of the most reliable video essay formulas is some version of “what went wrong with [incredibly popular cultural moment].” In the case of teen dystopias, it’s a fascinating take on how a generation of teen girls were drawn to bad ass, anti-establishment heroines, only to watch those types of characters get mass produced and diluted into mockery. But maybe I’m biased here; as the exact demographic targeted by the peak of The Hunger Games, Twilight, and Divergent, this cultural debrief speaks to my soul.

A Buffet of Black Food History

Food is an effective way to combine economic, cultural, and social histories–and Black American food history is an especially rich one. Food resonates with people, allowing us to connect with the past in a much more real way than if we were memorizing dates and locations from a textbook. Historian Elexius Jionde of Intelexual Media is a pro at taking what could be a standard history lesson and turning it into an interesting journey full of crazy characters and tidbits.

Most of the comments beneath the video are complaints that the video deserves to be so much longer. It’s jam-packed with surprising facts, fun asides, and, of course, tantalizing descriptions of the food at hand. Jionde even warns you right at the top: “Turn this video off right now if you’re hungry.”

The reign of the Slim-Thick Influencer

At this point, I’m assuming you know what a BBL is. Even if you aren’t familiar with the term (Brazilian butt lifts, FYI), then you’ve still probably observed the trend. Before big butts, it was thigh gaps. The pendulum swing of trending body types is nothing new. Curves are in, curves are out, thick thighs save lives, “skinny fat” is bad, and now, “slim thick” looms large. How do different body types fall in and out of fashion, and what effect does this have on the people living in those bodies?

Creator Khadija Mbowe identifies and analyzes a lot of the issues with how women’s bodies (especially Black women’s) are commodified, without ever blaming the bodies that are under fire. Mbowe handles the topic with grace and humor, even when discussing how deeply personal it is to them. If you’ve ever found yourself staring at a photo of an Instagram influencer, please do yourself a favor and watch this video essay.

Flight of the Navigator

Once again: I have been sucked into a video about a film that I have never seen and probably never will. Captain Disillusion, whose real name is Alan Melikdjanian, is another giant of the video essay genre, posting videos to a not-too-shabby audience of 2.29 million subscribers. Most of Captain Dissilision’s videos that I’d seen before this were of the creator debunking viral videos, exposing how certain visual effects were “obviously” faked. In this video, he turns his eye for debunking special effects not to viral videos, but to the 1986 Disney sci-fi adventure Flight of the Navigator.

This behind-the-scenes analysis of the Disney film is incredibly informative, tackling every instance when someone might ask, “ Hey, how did they manage to film that? ” It also touches upon the history of the special effects industry, something that deserves a little extra appreciation as CGI takes over every corner of movie-making.

Watch time : 41:28

The Failure of Victorious

YouTuber Quinton Reviews is dedicated to his craft, and I thank him for it. As you’ve certainly caught on to by now, you truly do not need to know anything about the show Victorious to enjoy an hours-long video essay that digs into it. What makes this video stand out is the sheer amount of content that this YouTuber both consumed and then created for us. Part of the video length—a whopping five hours—is due to the fact that every single episode of the Nickelodeon show is dissected. Another reason for the length is all the care that Quinton Reviews puts into providing context. And the context is what made me stick around: the failures of TV networks, the psychological dangers of working as child stars, and the questionable adult jokes that were broadcast to young audiences…if you’re at all interested in tainting your memory of hit Nickelodeon shows, this video is for you.

Watch time : 5:34:58 ( And that’s just part one. Strap in! )

Why Anime is for Black People

In this video Travis goes through the history of the “hip hop x anime” phenomenon, in which East Asian media permeates Black culture (and vice versa, as he hints at near the end). Although I am (1) not Black and (2) not an avid anime fan, I first clicked on this video because I’m a fan of comedian and writer Yedoye Travis. And yet—big shocker—I was immediately engrossed with the subject matter, despite having no context heading into it. Once you finish watching this video, be sure to check out Megan Thee Stallion’s interview about her connection to anime .

I haven’t run this part by my editor yet, but now would be a prime time to plug Lifehacker Editor-in-Chief Jordan Calhoun’s book, Piccolo Is Black: A Memoir of Race, Religion, and Pop Culture . Just saying.

Watch time : 18:34 (basically nothing in the world of video essays, especially compared to the five hours of Victorious content I binged earlier)

Efficiency in Comedy: The Office vs. Friends

I’m rounding out this list on a note of personal sentimentality. This is one of the first video essays that got me hooked on the format, mostly because I had followed creator Drew Gooden to YouTube after his stardom on Vine (RIP). This video is one of his most popular, combining comedy and math to pit two of the most popular sitcoms of all time in a joke-for-joke battle.

Gooden in particular stands out as someone who excels as both an earnest comic and a thoughtful critic of comedy. I appreciate his perspective as someone who knows what it’s like to work for a laugh and wants to get to the bottom of why something is or isn’t funny. This isn’t even one of Gooden’s best videos (I actually think his take on the parallels between Community and Arrested Development has a much stronger argument), but it’s a great example of the sort of perspective best situated to make video essays in the first place. Because what makes all these video essays so compelling is often the personality behind the argument. These aren’t investigative journalists or professional critics. They’re YouTubers. Really smart YouTubers, but still: These videos are born out of everyday people who simply have something to say.

I believe the modern YouTube video essay is uniquely situated to put cultural critique back into the hands of the average consumer—but only if that consumer is willing to put in the work to become a creator themselves.

essay conclusion examples and definition, explained below

Here’s the question you’ve probably got: what’s the difference between an introduction and a conclusion?

My advice is to use my two frameworks on how to write and conclusion and how to write an introduction:

  • Write an introduction with the Perfect Introduction INTRO method ;
  • Write a conclusion with the Perfect Conclusion FIVE-C method that I outline below.

As a university teacher, I have marked well over a thousand essays.

In my time, the best conclusions I’ve seen have tended to sum-up a topic by showing-off how well the writer knows the topic and how effectively they have come to their conclusions.

The best conclusions also convincingly show why the topic is important.

In this post, I will show you how to write a conclusion that will amaze your teacher.

This formula is called the FIVE-C’s method and works for nearly every essay.

This method walks you through five potential strategies that you can use in your conclusion. I will show you all five steps and give examples for each to model how to go about writing a good quality conclusion.

How to write a Conclusion: The Five-C Conclusion Method

1 Close the loop. Return to a statement you made in the introduction.

2 Conclude. Show what your final position is.

3 Clarify. Clarify how your final position is relevant to the Essay Question.

4 Concern. Explain who should be concerned by your findings.

5 Consequences. End by noting in one final, engaging sentence why this topic is of such importance.

For each of these steps, I recommend between one and two sentences to create a full detailed conclusion paragraph . You do not have to use each and every one of these steps every time.

Remember, once you’ve written your ideas, make sure you edit the conclusion to make sure it flows the way you want it to. Don’t feel like you have to stick exactly to these rules.

Here’s each step broken down one by one:

1. Close the Loop: Refer back to a statement from the Introduction

Have you ever noticed that comedians often start and end a show with the same joke? This method is called a “ Callback ” in stand-up comedy and is widely considered to be a very effective way to end on a high. I use this as an advanced form of transitioning to a conclusion .

Well, you can do this in your essay, too. Try to find a key statement you made in the introduction and return to it. In this way, you’re closing the look and ending your essay by tying it up in a thoughtful, memorable way.

Here’s a Tip: Forget about starting your conclusion with the tired old statement “In conclusion, …” and instead start it with “This essay began by stating that …” and continue from there.

Imagine you have an essay on “Should Fake News on Facebook be Regulated?” You might state an interesting ‘hook’ statement in the introduction such as:

  • Intro Hook : “Mark Zuckerberg faced US congress in late 2018 to defend Facebook’s record of regulating Facebook News. He claimed that Facebook needs to do a better job of verifying the identities of Facebook users.”

You can return back to this interesting statement in the conclusion. For example:

  • Close the Loop in the Conclusion: “This essay began by noting that Mark Zuckerberg accepts that Facebook needs to do a better job at regulation on the platform. As this essay has shown, it appears Facebook continues to be incapable to regulating content on its platform. Therefore, governments should step-in with minimum benchmarks for Facebook to adhere to for all advertising and news content.”

Closing the loop is a great literary strategy to tie up your essay and memorably conclude your argument.

2. Conclude: Provide a Final Evaluation by Referring back to your Arguments

Of course, a conclusion needs provide a final evaluative statement. If your essay is a persuasive or argumentative essay that asks you to take a stand, this is even more important.

The risk students run here is making their writing sound like propaganda. To prevent this, ensure your statement is balanced.

I like to use the formula below:

  • Refer to evidence. In the first third of the sentence, refer back to the arguments in the essay.
  • Use a hedging statement. Hedges when writing analysis verbs make your work sound more balanced and contemplative, and less biased. Hedges make you sound wise. A hedging statement withholds from being overly confident and unequivocal and softens your claims. Common hedges are: “it appears”, “it seems”, “the best current evidence is”, and “it is likely the case that”. These are the opposite of Boosters, which you should avoid. A booster is a statement like: “the data confirms”, “the truth of the matter is” and “it is undoubtedly true that”.
  • State your conclusion. Conclude the sentence with your final evaluation.

Let’s have a look at how to use this formula of: Refer to evidence + Use a hedging statement + State your conclusion. See below:

“Based on the available evidence provided in this paper…” “…it appears that…” “[thesis 1] is most accurate.”
“According to the key literature outlined in this paper…” “…the most compelling current conclusion is that…” “[your position] would be the best course of action.”
“From an evaluation of the above arguments…” “…an informed analysis would find that…” “[your position] is an accurate representation of the facts.”

Here’s an example. Imagine your essay question was “Should all recreational drugs be decriminalised?” You could state in your final evaluation:

  • (1) The evidence from both population data and criminological studies that were presented in this article (2) appears to indicate that (3) decriminalization of drugs would both save money and decrease drug overdoses.

This is far better than a propagandizing statement like:

  • This essay has totally debunked the idea that the war on drugs has done any good for society. Decriminalizing drugs will save money and lives, and it should be done immediately.

The first example sentence above would almost always get a higher grade than the second. It shows balance and reduces the chance your reader will accuse you of bias. This is a secret sauce for top marks: hedge, hedge and hedge some more!

Read Also: 39 Better Ways to Write ‘In Conclusion’ in an Essay

3. Clarify: Clarify the relevance of your statement to the Essay Question.

Read back through your conclusion and make sure that it directly answers the essay question. Too often, students write a few thousand words and end up talking about something completely different to what they began with.

Remember: you’re being marked on something very specific. It doesn’t matter how great and well formulated your argument is if it doesn’t answer the specific essay question.

To ensure you conclusion clearly addresses the research question, you might want to paraphrase some phrases from the essay question.

Here are some examples:

  • If your essay question is about Nurses’ bedside manner, you’re probably going to want to use the phrase “bedside manner” in the conclusion a few times.
  • If your essay question is about comparing renaissance and classical art, you better make sure you use the terms “renaissance art” and “classical art” a few times in that conclusion!

It is important to use paraphrasing here rather than explicitly stating the essay question word-for-word. For my detailed advice on how to paraphrase, visit my 5-step paraphrasing post .

4. Concern: Who should be concerned with this topic?

One of the best indicators that you know a topic well is to show how it relates to real life. The topic you have discussed is likely to have some relevance to someone, somewhere, out there in the world.

Make sure you state who it is that should be paying attention to your essay. Here’s my top suggestions for people who may be concerned with the topic:

  • Policy makers. Is this a topic where new laws or regulations need to be introduced that could improve people’s lives? If so, you could provide a statement that explains that “Policy makers should …” do something in light of the evidence you have provided.
  • Practitioners. If you’re doing a university degree that ends with a specific career, chances are the topic is relevant to that career. If you’re writing an essay on teaching methods, the essay is probably going to be something that teachers should be concerned about. Here’s an example: “Teachers need to know about children’s different learning styles in order to make sure their lessons are inclusive of all learning styles in the classroom.”

You’re in the best position to know who should be concerned with your topic. I can be any key stakeholder at all: parents, children, new immigrants, prisoners, prison guards, nurses, doctors, museum curators … you name it! It really depends on your topic.

5. Consequences: End by stating why the topic is important.

Your final statement can be something inspiring, interesting and relevant to real life. This is the opposite to the ‘hook’ in the introduction. While the hook draws your reader into the essay, your closing sentence sends your reader back out into the world, hopefully utterly convinced by you that this is a topic worthy of reflecting upon.

Here are some examples of a final sentence:

  • “The sheer number of Shakespearian words and phrases that are common in the English language should show why Shakespeare remains the most significant literary figure in British history.”
  • “The disastrous consequences of American regime change wars in the middle east that have been outlined in this paper highlights the case that the United States should not intervene in the Venezuelan political crisis.”

Remember when I said earlier that using hedges is good for your argument? The final sentence in the essay is the one place where maybe, just maybe, you can use the opposite: a Booster.

How to Write a Good Conclusion Paragraph (+30 Examples)

A good conclusion paragraph is the lasting impression you want to leave with your reader.

Here is a quick summary of how to write a good conclusion paragraph:

Write a good conclusion paragraph by summarizing key points, restating your thesis, and providing a final thought or call to action. Ensure it wraps up your main ideas, reinforces your argument, and leaves the reader with something to ponder.

This ultimate guide will walk you through the steps to craft an effective conclusion, along with 30 examples to inspire you.

5 Steps for Writing a Good Conclusion Paragraph

Person typing on a laptop at sunset on a cliff -- How to Write a Good Conclusion Paragraph

Table of Contents

There are five main steps to writing a good conclusion.

Let’s go through each step

1. Understand the Purpose

The conclusion is your final opportunity to leave an impact.

It should tie together your main ideas, reinforce your message, and give the reader a sense of closure.

Wrap Up Your Main Ideas

The conclusion should succinctly wrap up the main points of your writing. Think of it as a summary that captures the essence of your arguments without going into detailed explanations.

This helps reinforce what you have discussed and ensures that the reader remembers the core message.

Reinforce Your Thesis

Your thesis statement is the foundation of your writing.

In the conclusion, restate it in a new way to reinforce your central argument. This reminds the reader of the purpose of your writing and underscores its significance.

Give a Sense of Closure

A good conclusion gives a sense of closure to the reader. It signals that the discussion has come to an end and that all points have been addressed. This helps the reader feel that the piece is complete and that their time was well-spent.

Leave the Reader with Something to Think About

The best conclusions go beyond merely summarizing the content.

They leave the reader with a final thought or reflection that stays with them. This could be a call to action, a prediction about the future, or a thought-provoking question that encourages further reflection on the topic.

2. Summarize Key Points

Briefly summarize the key points discussed in the body of your text.

Avoid introducing new information. This helps the reader recall the main ideas.

Brief Summary

The summary should be concise and to the point. Highlight the main ideas discussed in your writing without going into detailed explanations. This helps refresh the reader’s memory of your key points.

Avoid New Information

Introducing new information in the conclusion can confuse the reader. The conclusion is not the place to present new arguments or data. Stick to summarizing what has already been discussed.

Recall Main Ideas

Summarizing the key points helps the reader recall the main ideas of your writing. This reinforces the message and ensures that the reader takes away the most important information from your piece.

“In conclusion, adopting sustainable practices, reducing waste, and promoting renewable energy are essential steps towards a greener future.”

3. Restate the Thesis

Restate your thesis in a new way. This reinforces your argument without sounding repetitive.

Restate, Don’t Repeat

Restating the thesis means expressing it in a new way.

Avoid repeating it verbatim.

Instead, rephrase it to reinforce your argument and show that you have successfully argued your point throughout the piece.

Reinforce the Argument

Restating the thesis helps reinforce your central argument. It reminds the reader of the purpose of your writing and underscores its significance.

Provide Closure Restating the thesis in the conclusion gives a sense of closure.

It signals that the discussion has come full circle and that you have addressed your initial argument.

“By implementing these strategies, we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint and protect our planet for future generations.”

4. Provide a Final Thought

Offer a final thought or reflection to leave a lasting impression. This could be a call to action, a prediction, or a thought-provoking question.

Final Thought or Reflection

A final thought or reflection can leave a lasting impression on the reader.

How to Write a Good Conclusion: Outline and Examples

Writing a well-structured and insightful concluding paragraph is akin to putting the final cherry on top of a delicious cake – it completes the experience and leaves a lasting impression. Whether you are crafting a paper, a report, or research, creating a persuasive closing paragraph can significantly enhance your work’s influence. This guide delineates the specifics of how to write a conclusion, explores the essential elements of a closure, offers strategies for writing one that resonates, and shares practical tips to sidestep common errors. Read on if writing a summative and logical ending seems challenging to you.

What is a Conclusion Paragraph and Why is it Important?

At its core, a paragraph conclusion serves to recap the major points of your paper and synthesize your primary argument. It serves as a final opportunity to make a memorable impact on your audience. Crafting a logical closure requires skillfully integrating key elements to reinforce the main argument and connect with the wider significance explored in the essay.

Types of concluding paragraphs include:

  • Summative Conclusion : This kind of closing paragraph briefly sums up the central points of the composition or report without adding new details.
  • Synthetic Closure : In this paragraph, the wrap-up statement goes beyond summarization to discuss the more extensive implications or relevance of the concepts expressed.
  • Final Comment : This type of summation, often used in persuasive or argumentative papers, makes a final appeal or recommendation based on the claims presented.

Different kinds of ending paragraphs fulfill various purposes, each aimed at making a strong impression on the reader. For additional assistance with essay writing, let’s say, generating ideas on how to start a conclusion paragraph, consider exploring AI tools such as the Aithor essay generator, available at https://aithor.com/ai-essay-generator .

Conclusion Paragraph Outline

Concluding paragraphs play a vital role in wrapping up an essay or report effectively. If you are wondering how to write a conclusion paragraph, follow our instructions: recap your central idea and major arguments, adding insight. A carefully constructed summation typically consists of three key elements:

  • Thesis Restatement : Begin writing your final paragraph by paraphrasing your central idea in a slightly different way than you did in the intro to reaffirm it.

Example : In a composition advocating for the significance of renewable energy, the summary statement may begin with: "Throughout history, energy sources have been central in shaping societies..."

  • Summary of Key Points : Next, recap the prime points or views earlier discussed in the body sections. This highlights the thesis and briefly reminds the audience of the path taken through your writing.

Example : From solar and wind to hydroelectric power, each renewable energy source offers distinct benefits in mitigating environmental change and reducing dependence on mineral fuels.

  • Final Comment : End your paper with a sentence that leaves a lasting impression or motivates the reader to act, based on the essay's purpose.

Example : As we look ahead to a sustainable future, utilizing sustainable energy not only helps the environment but also boosts the economy and enhances energy security.

To master writing a well-rounded conclusion, remember these essential steps. This conclusion paragraph structure effectively wraps up your paper, reinforces your primary ideas, and leaves an insight.

Strategies for Writing an Effective Conclusion

Crafting a captivating concluding section that resonates with your readers, is crucial for leaving a long-lasting impression. When writing your closing paragraph, consider employing these strategies:

Circle Back to the Intro : Referencing a key phrase or reasons from your opening paragraph can create a sense of cohesion and closure.

Example : If your introduction highlighted a current environmental crisis, your final paragraph could explore how renewable energy could offer a solution to this crisis.

Pose a Thought-Provoking Query : Encourage deeper contemplation by posing an intriguing question related to your essay topic.

Example : How can people and governments work together to speed up using renewable energy technologies?

Offer a Prediction or Recommendation : Based on your central points, suggest what might happen over time or recommend a course of action.

Example : Investing in renewable energy now can pave the way for a more sustainable and cleaner planet for prospective generations.

Connect to a Broader Context: Relate your paper’s topic to a larger issue or ongoing discussion to underscore its significance and relevance.

Example: The shift to renewable energy is not just about reducing emissions; it's part of a global movement towards sustainable development and ecological stewardship.

Avoid Overly Emotional Call-to-Action: While urging action, maintain a balanced tone to avoid coming across as overly emotional or sensational.

Example: Let's come together to adopt renewable energy and forge a more promising tomorrow for future generations.

By employing these techniques, make sure that your ending paragraph not only recaps your central arguments smoothly but also leaves a sense of purpose and inspiration to your readers.

What to Avoid While Writing a Conclusion

When composing your final paragraph, it's crucial to avoid typical pitfalls that may weaken your closing remarks. Consider some common errors:

Adding Fresh Details : Avoid presenting completely new thoughts or examples that haven’t been addressed in the body parts.

Example : In brief, whereas renewable energy has many benefits, nuclear power remains a controversial alternative.

Overusing Clichés or Generalizations : Keep your language fresh and related to your essay’s topic. Avoid clichéd phrases like "In conclusion," as they add unnecessary redundancy to the text.

Example : In essence, it is obvious that renewable energy is the path of the future.

Undermining Your Efforts : The essay’s last paragraph should assert the validity of the thesis, not undermine it.

Example : While my research has limitations, I believe renewable energy is still a practical alternative.

Overly Emotive Call-to-Action: Balance emotional appeal and confidence and avoid being overly dramatic while encouraging action.

Example: We must act now to embrace renewable energy for a sustainable future.

Confusing Summary with Analysis: Differentiate between recapping key points and providing deeper analysis. Reflect on your insights rather than repeating facts.

Example: Briefly, renewable energy benefits the environment and promotes economic stability.

Avoiding such pitfalls ensures – your closing statements contribute positively to the quality of your assignment. How to write a conclusion paragraph efficiently? Stay concentrated, specific, and assertive to generate an insightful closure that enhances your paper's impact.

Useful Phrases When Starting the Conclusion

Transitioning smoothly into your recap can enhance the influence and clarity of your final comments. Check out some useful phrases categorized by their purpose:

1.       Summarizing : "To sum up,...", "In summary,..."

2.       Reaffirming : "It is evident that...", "This reinforces the notion that..."

3.       Reflecting : "Considering these arguments,...", "Taking this into account,..."

4.   Looking Forward : "Considering the future,...", "Moving forward,..."

By using these connectors, you will write a paragraph that coherently wraps up your ideas and leaves stimulating thoughts.

Conclusion Samples with Explanation

Ending your composition and highlighting your focal points is essential to effectively generate a solid final paragraph. Here are two A-level samples, each crafted for different assignment types:

  • Summative Conclusion : To sum up, the investigation of renewable energy sources underscores their key role in addressing environmental change and lessening our reliance on limited resources. Solar, hydroelectric, and wind power – each provide distinct benefits that contribute to sustainability.

Explanation : This closing paragraph summarizes the central points discussed throughout the paper highlighting the paper’s thesis, without presenting new details.

  • Final Comment : As global energy requirements continue to rise, embracing renewable energy not only addresses environmental concerns but also opens avenues for financial prosperity and energy self-sufficiency. By putting resources into renewable technologies today, we set the stage for a more promising future for coming generations.

Explanation : This paragraph goes beyond summarization to underscore the wider implications and prospects specific to the main idea in the final part.

These conclusion examples illustrate how to create a memorable impression by briefly repeating key points and emphasizing broader implications.

In a nutshell, a meticulously crafted summary paragraph comprises three essential elements that elevate the essay’s impact and overall coherence. A well-structured conclusion paragraph outline involves skillfully recapping the central points, reaffirming your thesis, and forming a strong final impression. Also, the assignment’s ending represents your final occasion to provide insight, so make it count. By avoiding typical errors and employing effective tactics, you can guarantee that the closure not only ties your writing together but also resonates with the audience.

Now that you've learned the secrets of writing a closing paragraph, this guide has equipped you with the essential tools to navigate the process, ensuring your piece is succinct, coherent, and insightful. By adhering to these principles, your finale not only serves to reinforce the topic’s relevance but also inspires thoughtful reflection on its critical role in shaping a brighter future for upcoming generations.

Cracking the Conclusion Writing Code

conclusion-writing

April 6, 2020 //  by  Lindsay Ann //   Leave a Comment

Sharing is caring!

In conclusion writing, the goal for students is to wrap up their academic writing with interest.

But what does that mean?

And more importantly, how can I teach something as abstract as “interesting.”

Interesting is subjective and somewhat judgemental. If I tell students to just make it “interesting,” the hidden message is that they are writing for me.

I never want to make my students feel like they are jumping through some invisible “please the teacher” hoop.

I do want them to feel like their essay conclusion writing matters.

Teaching Conclusion Writing

Let’s talk about common practice in English teacher world for a sec.

The inverted funnel is an often-used strategy used by well-intentioned teachers.

Start with a re-stated thesis, and broaden out from there.

This isn’t wrong , it’s just woefully generic.

I like to put teaching strategies through the “struggling student” test. If I’m not sure how to end my essay and my teacher tells me to just “go broad” in my conclusion, but to keep it “interesting,” I’m going to shrug my shoulders and write a regurgitation of my essay’s main points. Maybe I’ll end with some sort of pithy statement. Done.

Wait, wait, wait, you may be saying. It’s good for students to struggle. They need to make sense of their ideas for themselves. Or, maybe you teach honors students and don’t want to “hold their hand” too much?

Giving structure doesn’t mean that you’re doing the thinking for students. It’s giving all students access to writing a great conclusion.

And I’ve found that my honors students are able to take this structure to a whole different level than my standard-level students. In the process, though, all students are clear and feel empowered to write. That’s what I want!

conclusion-writing

Writing Conclusion Paragraphs

Here are the steps I teach students to follow when writing the conclusion in academic writing.

It’s worth mentioning that this conclusion strategy goes hand-in-hand with this introduction writing strategy .

Ideally, the introduction and conclusion of the essay should work together , and I want my students to see a connection between how they began their essay and how they end their essay. This gives a bigger purpose to the “hook” and it gives a direction for students to uncover some deeper meaning in their conclusion.

Steps to Conclusion Writing:

👉 Begin with the thesis statement. Ask students to paraphrase it in their own words.

👉 Next, ask students to review what they wrote for their introductory hook. After their conclusion, their goal should be to review the significance of the thesis idea as seen in their essay. Then, they should write a sentence that joins the introduction idea back to that hook idea. Here, they should ask an open-ended question which they will go on to answer in the next step. This is what I call “coming full circle.”

👉 After blending in a question that makes sense in the context of their ideas, students should think deeply and answer their question. This answer is the beginning of their “so what.”

By the end of the essay, students should be discussing the significance of a bigger idea in terms of society and/or human nature. This conclusion writing step is all about students being reflective and helping their reader to think about the larger implications of what they “thought about” in their essay.

👉 Students usually stop at one level of “so what,” but I tell my students this is like peeling back layers of an onion. They can usually extend their thinking to find an even deeper insight . To extend, I have students continue to ask themselves why what they just wrote is significant, why it matters in the world, etc. So, this step is about playing the “so what” game until they arrive at that truly golden realization that really makes readers go “hmm, I never thought about it that way before.”

👉 Part of the very last sentence should be a “zinger.” In a nutshell, a zinger is a short, wise, or witty statement that is often a call to action, empathy, kindness, or self-reflection. Alternatively, a zinger can look toward the future and think about what might happen.

Zinger Example: “Without memory, there would be no civilization, no society, no future” – Elie Wiesel

Conclusion Paragraph Example

As you can see, in the example below, the student moves from a restated thesis to a quick review of how the main idea (evil in human nature) relates to the thesis. The author uses the stem “as ____________, readers questioned _____________” to create a bridge to the bigger question that ties evil in human nature back to the focus of the hook (superheroes).

conclusion-writing

From here, the student tries for a “so what,” discussing how evil vs. good grows in humans. This bit has a potential zinger in the realization that humans need to be their own heroes; however, it’s a bit cliche and can be pushed further.

The student continues and asks “so what” again. The final section has a more specific zinger in relation to something specific happening in the world today. It is both a call to action and self-reflection for the reader. I’m glad the student challenged herself to take this a step further so that this thinking happened.

Thesis: In Lord of the Flies, Golding hints that human nature is both good and evil. In the absence of societal norms, Golding’s characters underwent a social experiment.

Circle Back & Ask: In the absence of societal norms, Golding’s characters underwent a social experiment. As their savage nature took over, readers questioned why evil had taken over and no one stepped in to save the day until it was too late. Where was the Superman Jedi Princess on that island? And how can we make sure that good, not evil, wins in the end?

So What?: To answer this question, consider a basic principle of life: what we feed grows. We have to feed the better parts of our nature such as love, patience, self-control, and we have to starve the worst parts of our nature: jealousy, anger, pride, fear. We need to be our own heros and fight for what is right.

Extend: When we feed the good, evil is defeated. So what, you may ask. This means that every choice counts. Every person counts. While we cannot reverse societal trends that feed some of the worst parts of human nature, we can start with ourselves. The evil is always there, beneath the surface, just waiting to come out. Just look at all of the people panic buying toilet paper in the wake of Covid-19. Are you going to be that person fighting for more Angel Soft in aisle 19, or will you choose to feed the softer side of your humanity?

How to Write a Synthesis Essay Conclusion

November 2, 2022 by Beth Hall

If you’re taking the AP ® Lang exam, you might be wondering if a synthesis essay conclusion is even necessary. You also might be wondering how to write a synthesis essay conclusion. The answer to the first question is it depends. Keep reading to find out why.

Priorities When Writing a Synthesis Essay Conclusion

Before you even attempt to write a conclusion for synthesis essays, it is crucial to make sure you do other aspects first. This is because the conclusion is not necessary. Simply put, it is not part of the rubric. Think of your exam essay more as a rough draft, and sometimes we do not get time to write the conclusion at this point. That’s okay! You are under a lot of stress, so the priority needs to be on the aspects within the rubric, especially the evidence and commentary in your body paragraphs.

Before attempting the synthesis essay conclusion, be sure you’ve clearly cited 3 of the provided sources. This is the only way to score within the higher numbers for the evidence and commentary row. For more guidance on writing the body of the synthesis essay, be sure to read How to Write a Synthesis Essay. This blog post outlines the entire writing process to help you earn the best score possible.

Additionally, you want to be sure that you have well-developed body paragraphs. If you have to choose between writing more in your body paragraphs or writing a conclusion, typically, it will be helpful to focus on the body paragraphs. This is because your body paragraphs contain evidence and commentary, which are 4 of the possible 6 points on the rubric.

To Write or Not To Write a Synthesis Essay Conclusion?

After finishing the body paragraphs, you want to check the remaining time. Ask yourself: Do I have enough time to write a conclusion? If you have at least three sources and your body paragraphs are strong, it is time to begin the conclusion.

When writing a conclusion paragraph for synthesis essays, some students will restate the thesis. This is fine–just make sure you don’t copy it verbatim. Others might worry that the original thesis was not defensible and want to have a stronger conclusion. This means they come up with a stronger thesis as they conclude the essay.

Developing Your Synthesis Conclusion

When working on your synthesis essay conclusion, you may want to develop your conclusion beyond just restating your thesis. Here are some questions to consider to help you develop your synthesis essay conclusion paragraph:

  • Who is helped or harmed by the issue? In other words, who benefits and who is at a disadvantage?
  • What are the short-term and long-term societal implications of this issue?
  • Why does this issue really matter?
  • Why is this issue relevant on a local, national, or even international level? For this question, you do not have to answer all parts. Which level to focus on depends on the topic itself.
  • Do you have any outside knowledge you could connect to the issue to show why it is essential?
  • How does the issue connect to the future? For example, you can even include personal experience to help show why the topic matters. Then, you can include why this topic is important to the future.

Answering any of these questions within the conclusion of the synthesis essay helps you offer deeper insight, possibly situation the issue in a broader context.

Another possible way to end your synthesis essay conclusion is a call to action. This is when you challenge your audience to go and do something. You want to encourage people to act. This may be the reader, or it may be parents, educators, politicians, and businesses. However, it is important to remember this is not appropriate for every essay and prompt. It is a tool to have in your toolbox in case it works for the prompt on exam day. You want to use it sparingly and thoughtfully.

If applicable, you can also make note relevant personal experience or observations in your conclusion to help address why this issue or topic matters in the real-world, beyond what the provided sources say.

Writing the Conclusion

When learning how to write a synthesis essay conclusion, it is important to avoid the phrases “in conclusion,” “all in all,” or “to sum it up.” Those are a little bit too simple.  When leading into the conclusion paragraph, I recommend something like “When considering…” and then going into the topic. After, incorporate something like “It becomes clear/apparent/evident that…” and re-elaborate on your stance. Then, wrap everything up with strong concluding words, such as “Therefore” or “Thus.” As you write, remember it is okay to use language from the prompt!

When it comes time to write the synthesis essay, focus on the body paragraphs and sources. You are graded against a rubric, so you want to give yourself the best chance at a high score. However, you also want to know how to write a synthesis essay conclusion. While this is not a requirement, it is a great way to create a solid ending to your essay should you have the time.

Social Media: YouTube essay

Today, social media play an increasingly more important role in the life of society because users spend a lot of time online and they view social media as an important source of information about issues which users are concerned with. YouTube, being one of the mainstream social media, allows users to share their videos online, create their channels and, thus, create their virtual communities united by common interests. YouTube also becomes a tool of the promotion of individuals and ideas because users can use the social media to promote themselves and their ideas. In such a situation, the distinct feature of YouTube is its performativity because users publishing their videos on YouTube focus on their performativity. Otherwise, they will not attract many users and become virtually useless for other users of YouTube but the authors of those videos (Lombe & Ssewamala 39). Hence, the performativity is not only the distinct feature of YouTube but also an essential condition of success of videos published on YouTube, whereas the public grows too concerned with the performativity that often leads to the failure of the audience to notice really significant and important issues, while perfomrability become prior to the cultural and social value of videos and messages published on YouTube. In such a way, the performativity of YouTube has a dubious effect, since, on the one hand, YouTube performativity makes it attractive and powerful social media allowing sharing visual data by users worldwide, while, on the other hand, YouTube performativity has a de structive impact on the existing legal and socio-cultural or ethical norms because often data published on YouTube violate basic rights, such as privacy or copyright, and offend existing ethical norms.

At the same time, social media became generators of the mainstream culture and new trends. In this regard, it is worth mentioning the fact that the development of social media, like YouTube, opens new opportunities for the development of virtual social communities united by their common interests. Users spend more and more time online developing their virtual social relations online. Social media become an important part of their life and virtual communities created with the help of and within social media play an important part in the development of socio-cultural norms and standards that affect the development of basic ethical and cultural norms of people and influence their lifestyle substantially.

YouTube has become a highly influential media which is extremely popular among users worldwide. Today, YouTube has millions or even billions of users worldwide. This is one of the most popular social media along with FaceBook, Twitter and others. The popularity of YouTube is closely intertwined with the publishing opportunity offered by the social media because users can publish their videos both documentary and featured ones. In such a way, users get ample opportunities to share their videos instantly. At the same time, the distinct feature of YouTube is its perfomrability because it is the performativity of videos that attracts users and the more performable a video is the more users will watch it, the more popular it becomes.

Even though YouTube focuses on sharing videos mainly, the social media still opens wide opportunities for users to share their creative ideas and make them performable. Users may be driven by different concerns, while publishing their videos and sharing information with others. Some of them may be willing to publishing some interesting facts recorded by them in the real world, while others manifest their creativity with the help of YouTube.

YouTube allows watching diverse videos and channels which may vary in their content. However, the popularity of videos determines their availability to the audience that influences the perception of information by the audience. For instance, the video that has the highest number of views becomes more and more popular and becomes mainstream, even though in its essence the video may have little cultural value or poor messages (Warr 291). In fact, the point is to make videos performable. The overwhelming majority of users publishing their videos on YouTube are concerned with the popularity of their videos than their content. Such a competition encourages users to focus on performativity of their videos above all.

What makes YouTube really popular and mainstream social media is its performativity because the audience receive what it wants and expects from the media, the performance, the show and entertainment with the possibility of the further communication and even interaction with other users of YouTube. For instance, users publishing the video on YouTube may expect the positive feedback from other users. If they receive a negative feedback, they may become interested in creating a new video to match the public interests. In such a way, videos become more and more performable to gain the positive feedback from the part of other users watching them on YouTube.

However, often the quantity of views determines the popularity of videos in YouTube and users erroneously associate the quality of the video with the number of views. In other words, they may believe that if the video has a large number of views, than it is good and mainstream.

Furthermore, users can leave comments after the video that also contributes to the formation of specific ideas because users may conduct disputes as they leave their comments.

Furthermore, videos published on YouTube may encourage users to publish their video responses that contribute to the further attraction of the users’ attention to the issue that has become the subject of controversy or dispute between users.

The popularity of YouTube is, to a significant extent, determined by the interest of the audience in visual information. In fact, it is not the interest proper. To put it more precisely, users prefer YouTube because this social media provides them with visual messages which are preferable for the public than print messages for instance (Warr 290). As people perceive the information about the surrounding world with the help of vision, they naturally choose YouTube in place of other social media because they have an opportunity to receive visual information that facilitates their perception of messages conveyed via YouTube.

At the same time, it is necessary to take the commercial background and opportunities offered by YouTube to its users. For instance, users can benefit from the cooperation with advertisers but they need to make their videos and channels popular to attract more advertisers. In such a way, YouTube offers business opportunities for users that stimulates the development of diverse channels to meet current demands of the public or create new ones.

🔎 Generating a Conclusion: 4 Components

Our generator will make a significant part of the work. Yet, we recommend you polish the result since any automatic tool may make certain inaccuracies.

Let’s start with the basics: what are the purposes of a conclusion?

  • It leaves the final impression on your reader.
  • It wraps up your piece of writing.
  • It proves to the reader that you accomplished your goal.

To ensure the flawlessness of your concluding paragraph, you should have a clear understanding of how it should look like. In the following sections, we will discuss the essential elements of a strong conclusion.

To make the transition to the final paragraph smooth and logical, use linking words. Sometimes, it might be challenging to choose the most appropriate one. Here, we will tell distinguish between effective and weak linking words.

A writer aims to deliver information clearly and logically. The words that help you connect your ideas within and between the paragraphs are called linking words (or transitions). They ensure the smooth flow of sentences and play a crucial role in making the text coherent.

Now, let’s figure out what transitions are indeed effective in academic writing! Make sure the conclusion paragraph generator chose the most appropriate word.

Checklist Card

Once you’ve linked the main body of your essay with your concluding paragraph, you need to connect it with the introduction. Do it in the topic sentence, which is the first one in the paragraph. Here you should restate your thesis statement that you’ve previously written in your introduction.

Here’s how you restate a thesis in your conclusion:

Change the wording.

Use a wide variety of synonyms the English language offers you! Experiencing some troubles with finding appropriate alternatives? Use an online generator! But do it carefully: always check if the word fits within the context and doesn’t confuse the readers.

Use a different structure.

There are so many ways to do that. Use different tenses, grammar constructions, or just present your main points in a new order. These simple tricks will effectively differentiate your topic sentence from your thesis statement.

Separate your key points.

In the introduction, you’ve probably listed your main points in a row. However, as you investigated the topic, you can make your conclusion more complex and present your critical ideas from a broader perspective. Spread them across the entire paragraph and prove to your readers your competency.

For example, your thesis statement might be the following:

Living in a city is better than living in a village because cities offer more educational and career opportunities.

Now, let’s try to apply the three mentioned-above strategies and restate our thesis:

Life in a city is a perfect choice for a modern highly-motivated person. Here, any individual will have the possibility to get an education in a preferred field. Moreover, urban dwellers can actualize themselves throughout their fascinating career path.

In the last paragraph, you need to retell what the text was about. Our conclusion writer is a perfect tool to complete this task. But there are still a couple of things you should be aware of:

  • Don’t just summarize but synthesize: connect the arguments and logically.
  • Don’t provide any new supporting details in the last paragraph of your paper.
  • Don’t add any new points, ideas, arguments in your conclusion.

And bear in mind that your concluding paragraph should include:

  • Key ideas. Identify the essential points and restate them in your conclusion. Avoid including any secondary information – only the most crucial ideas.
  • Ground facts. Remain objective. Include the facts you based your key ideas on in your conclusion.
  • The connection between ideas and facts. Demonstrate a clear correlation between your main points. Convey that even the supporting facts are linked in some way. It will prove to the reader your credibility and professionalism in the chosen area.

Use your concluding sentence to make the last good impression on the reader. To achieve it, you can restate the start of your introduction, provide a rhetorical question or call-to-action. Let’s explore some tactics for making the closing words memorable.

Overall, your last sentence should:

  • provide a sense of closure;
  • demonstrate the significance of your findings;
  • leave a long-lasting impression;
  • motivate a reader for action, if necessary;
  • wrap up your essay on a positive note.

Does it seem to you that the last sentence created by the essay conclusion generator is too simple? Wondering how to conclude your piece of writing dynamically? Consider applying one of the following strategies to improve the text generated by the automatic tool:

  • Framing. Make the first and the last sentences of the paper identical/similar/complementary.
  • Call to action. Motivate your readers to perform the activities that would change their lives, bring value to society, etc.
  • A joke. Include a short anecdote at the end of your essay to leave a positive vibe.
  • A quote. Sometimes, an impressive saying can make your reader remember your paper for a long time.
  • A question. Leave the food for thought for your readers so that they will be willing to explore your topic further.

🚫 Conclusion Types to Avoid

Now you know what should be in your conclusion. It’s time to discuss what shouldn’t be there!

Four strategies for wrapping up the text you should avoid:

Raw thesis restatement.

Indeed, you should refer to your thesis statement in your conclusion. However, it doesn’t mean that you can just paraphrase it. The ending of your paper will be too short and weak. Instead, you should develop your thesis statement, adding the findings you’ve got while writing the text. It will show that you did learn and achieve something, composing the paper.

Revealing effect.

Sometimes, students wrongly assume keeping the thesis secret until the very conclusion is a powerful strategy to make the readers intrigued. Well, it may work out in fiction literature. But for academic essay writing, this is not a beneficial tactic. Here, you need to come up with a clear thesis statement in the introduction. Then, structure your arguments according to it. In your conclusion, you should restate your thesis, not mention it for the first time.

Emotionless essay conclusion phrases.

Something like “I love my mother very much” will not impress the reader. Try to be more creative and emotionally appealing. How about ending your piece of writing in this way: Charley Benetto has once said: “When you are looking at your mother, you are looking at the purest love you will ever know.” I believe this is the best description of the feelings that awake inside my heart when I’m close to my mom.

Too broad conclusion.

The best way to end an essay is to create an impressive and concise concluding paragraph. Do not include any unnecessary information, irrelevant facts, or random arguments here. By the way, we know how to prevent this mistake. Use our online conclusion maker and be sure your last paragraph includes only indeed essential ideas.

Thanks for reading this article. We hope our automatic conclusion writer can help you complete any written work correctly. Share it with your peers who may need the tool as well.

The study uses the 8-step process developed by Walker and Avant to define and characterize community health centers, providing meaning and attributes crucial for scientific research, policymaking, and healthcare interventions.

Nursing Essay Examples

The introduction of university education for nurses has enabled nurses to keep up to date with medical advances. It has changed their roles both in the hospital and community settings and has led to the increase in power they now enjoy. Their working conditions and wages have improved as they have been seen in this more professional standing. Nurses’ ability to assess and evaluate patients has also improved but their ability to provide empathetic and understanding care has diminished as a result to the strong theory base that university education is centred on.

The conclusion could also be improved by ending with a broad summary of the impacts in the same order as in the Body. It could also suggest where university education is taking nursing as a profession.

A black-and-white portrait of President Biden.

Opinion Frank Bruni

What Joe Biden Just Did Is Utterly Extraordinary

In the hours and days to come, many political observers will say that President Biden was backed into a corner and had no choice but to end his re-election campaign. His limitations had been laid painfully bare. He’d lost the confidence of the Democratic Party. And he was staggering toward an increasingly ugly revolt within it or a potentially harrowing defeat by Donald Trump. Bowing out wasn’t an act of grace. It was a saving of face.

All correct. But that’s not the whole truth. Not the full story. It misses the bigness of what Biden just did — its historical rarity, its emotional agony, its fundamental humility.

Yes, his decision to abandon his aspirations for a second term and let another, younger Democrat seek the presidency came weeks later than it should have, after too much secrecy, too much arrogance, too much denial. He pushed wishful thinking to the limit, scoffing at polls, sniping at the news media and claiming omniscience in a manner that eerily echoed Trump’s populist bluster. (“I’m getting so frustrated by the elites.” “Look at the crowds.”) But that doesn’t erase the enormous impact and extraordinary example of relinquishing his candidacy.

His exit from the presidential race creates a kind and magnitude of uncertainty about who one of the major party’s nominees will be — and what sort of late-stage, rushed operation that person can put together — that has no real precedent in modern American politics. Maybe his endorsement of Kamala Harris and the vice-president’s traditional status as heir apparent will amount to her speedy anointment. Maybe not. She has doubters aplenty, and many prominent Democrats crave a real competition, not a segue from obligatory indulgence of Biden to forced allegiance to Harris.

This is terra incognita. While Republicans in 1964 and Democrats in 1968 began their summer conventions without clarity about the outcome, the candidates in the hunt for the nomination had been making their pitches and jockeying for position for much of the year. They weren’t in a mad dash after a mid-July swerve that has many Americans reeling.

Nor was their party puzzling over what to do in a climate of panic this intense. Democrats aren’t simply thinking and talking about the best way to beat Republicans; they’re thinking and talking about the sturdiest bulwark against a second Trump administration that they rightly consider a dire threat to American democracy itself. And they’re confronting a version of Trump, with his wounded ear and his swollen claims of divine mission, as confident of victory and in command of his followers as he has ever been.

Listen, nearly everything you need to know about the presidential candidacy of Kamala Harris can be summed up by 19 words she uttered at the 2018 confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh.

Harris, then a senator from California serving on the Judicial Committee, had used up several minutes trying to pin down Kavanaugh’s opinion on Roe v. Wade . Like nearly every senator on the topic, she was mostly unsuccessful. “I have not articulated a position on that,” Kavanaugh told her at one point, sidestepping the fact that articulating a position is precisely what she’d been asking him to do. Finally, in a cool and deliciously patient voice, Harris changed tactics:

“Can you think of any laws,” she asked the nominee, “that give the government the power to make decisions about the male body?”

“Um,” Kavanaugh replied, furrowing his brow. “I am happy to answer a more specific question, but — ”

“Male versus female,” Harris offered, smiling, and when Kavanaugh still expressed confusion, she repeated her 19-word question: “Can you think of any laws that give the government the power to make decisions about the male body?”

Kavanaugh responded, “I am not thinking of any right now.”

Shortly thereafter, Harris’s questioning moved on to other topics, but that moment is what the women in my life spent the rest of the day talking about. It was obvious that Kavanaugh was not planning to reveal his professional opinion on the legality of abortion , so Harris had instead gone straight to the heart of the matter.

Laws related to reproductive health care only impact female bodies. Overturning Roe v. Wade would primarily hurt women. The health and personal choices of women were monitored, restricted and regulated by the government in ways that men could not begin to imagine — in a way that Kavanaugh himself had clearly not begun to imagine, considering how long it took him to grasp Harris’s question. And if he would not articulate a position, then she would at least make him articulate the injustice.

Yeah, he would go on to secure the seat on the bench. And four years later he would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade . But at least Kamala Harris made it clear that she was going into this goat rodeo with her eyes wide open.

In the early hours since President Biden announced on Sunday that he would be endorsing Harris as the Democratic nominee, everyone and their MSNBC-loving nana seems to have an opinion on how Harris should campaign. Should she remind the voting public that she was a former prosecutor who would know exactly what to do with a felon like Donald Trump ? Should she go full coconuts and lean into the memes? Within hours of Biden’s announcement, the pop star Charli XCX posted on X that “Kamala is brat,” which refers to — you know what, just Google it, and trust that it’s the kind of approval seal that will turn out more 20-something votes than a whole army of endorsements from Nancy Pelosi.

The answer is, probably, all of the above. Harris is going to need a powerhouse coalition that includes church ladies and hard-working stepmoms as well as Fire Island gays. But the version of Harris that always struck me as the most authentic and the most reassuring was the one we were introduced to in 2018, when Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick turned up on Capitol Hill with the confidence of an altar boy who’d never before had to account for some missing Communion wine.

On the second day of his confirmation hearings, Kamala pressed Kavanaugh to share whether he thought that Obergefell v. Hodges , the 2015 case that essentially legalized same-sex marriage, had been “correctly decided.” When he would not answer, she reframed the question: “You have said that Brown v. Board of Education was one of the greatest moments in the court’s history,” she told Kavanaugh. “Do you believe that Obergefell was also one of those moments?”

Note how the second version of the question is slightly different than the first. She is no longer simply asking for the opinion of a legal scholar. She is also asking for the opinion of a human. Civil rights protection had been expanded to gay couples — and how did that make him feel? If he’d been willing to share vocal support for one kind of equality, why not the other? What were his values, and how were they going to inform his work on the court? (Kavanaugh responded to her question not by sharing his own opinion but by quoting someone else, which Harris noted.)

Later, the confirmation process took an unexpected turn, following Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations that Kavanaugh had attempted to assault her when they both were teens. The truth of those allegations proved impossible to litigate in the context of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The alleged events were decades old. But in the middle of that hearing, Harris asked Kavanaugh — whose defense somehow involved a global conspiracy and “revenge on behalf of the Clintons” — what outwardly appeared to be a softball: “Do you agree that it is possible for men to both be friends with some women and treat other women badly?”

It was a philosophical question more than a legal one, but man if it didn’t encapsulate everything that feminists had been trying to point out: that people were complicated. That powerful men might have hired female law clerks and coached girls basketball, as Kavanaugh did, but that didn’t mean we should assume they couldn’t have also abused women. That it was possible for good men to do bad things, and until we understood that, we weren’t going to get anywhere as a country.

I was riveted by those hearings at the time, and the fact that they happened six long years ago is why I’m refreshing your memory now. It’s worth going back to watch them. Kamala the prosecutor is present there, and, to a lesser extent, so is Kamala the meme.

But the most compelling version of Kamala is that of a savvy practitioner at the top of her game, asking the right questions even when the answers never arrived. Clear-eyed. Laser-focused. Take no prisoners. Accept no B.S.

Sparkling Royal Jewels From Around the World

Queen Elizabeth II’s Brazilian Aquamarine Parure

03.07.2020 by The Court Jeweller // Leave a Comment

Most of the sparkling tiaras worn by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom were legacies from queens and princesses past, but a few of them have been hand-picked or commissioned by the Queen herself. Today’s tiara, the Brazilian Aquamarine, was ordered by the Queen as a part of an evolving parure of jewels.

The Brazilian aquamarine parure didn’t start with a tiara; it began with a necklace and a pair of earrings. These diamond and aquamarine pieces were presented to the Queen in 1953 by the Brazilian president as a coronation gift on behalf of the people of Brazil. Leslie Field describes the necklace as follows: “nine large oblong aquamarines each in a diamond scroll setting with an even bigger oblong aquamarine pendant drop.” The earrings were designed to mimic the setting of the necklace’s pendant. Above, she wears the earrings and necklace with Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik in 1957.

By 1957, the Queen had also commissioned Garrard to make a tiara to match the aquamarine demi-parure. The tiara featured an elaborate diamond and aquamarine bandeau base, with three aquamarine and diamond elements placed at intervals. Above, she wears the original tiara for the Royal Film Performance of George Cukor’s Les Girls in November 1957.

You can see two different angles showing the original tiara above. On the left, the Queen wears the tiara with the necklace (sans pendant) and earrings on a visit to Malta in November 1967; on the right, she dons the tiara to watch Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev dance at Covent Garden in March 1969.

The parure kept evolving, in part because Brazil kept generously offering more aquamarines to the Queen. They presented her with a bracelet and brooch to coordinate with the set in August 1958, and in 1968, when the Queen made her first state visit to Brazil, the Governor of Sao Paolo gave her an aquamarine and diamond hair ornament. According to Field, stones from this ornament were used in 1971 to super-size the aquamarine tiara. (For years, many believed that this hair ornament might have been the smaller aquamarine tiara now worn by the Countess of Wessex , but as that tiara still exists, that can’t be the case.)

The central stone was swapped for a larger one — the original pendant from the necklace — and four new motifs were made to set between each of the three upright oblong aquamarines. Field describes these as “scroll-shaped motifs,” but I’ve always thought they were rather fan-like in their design. Each of the elements of the tiara was also topped by a round, collet-set aquamarine.

The Queen has worn the tiara fairly consistently since its overhaul, even though it’s now one of the tallest and most imposing diadems in her collection. Although she often opts for smaller and more comfortable tiaras (like the GGBI and the Belgian Sapphire) these days, we’ve still seen her bring out the Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara a couple of times over the last decade. Prominent appearances have included the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Australia in October 2011…

…and the Spanish state banquet at Buckingham Palace in July 2017. Will we see the Queen wearing this tiara again anytime soon? Or will it be worn in the future by another royal lady, perhaps the Duchess of Cornwall or the Duchess of Cambridge?
