Casandra and Scott | St Columba Church & South of Perth Yacht Club Wedding

Casandra and Scott’s wedding was a long time coming… they booked us before they were even engaged a few years back. I guess you could say Casandra is good at seeing what she’s after and making a move. Hmm well, that is exactly how she first met Scott. After spotting him at a nightclub in Bunbury, Cas spontaneously decided to buy him a drink, a shot actually, called Squashed Frog! Very smooth :) Seven years later, Scott proposed to Cas in the Swan Valley over a romantic picnic by the river, after taking Casandra on a horse and cart ride.

When their wedding day finally arrived, it was the calm between the storm. The two days before their wedding was thunderstorms and lightning, which was about as crazy as Perth gets, and the three days after their wedding were stormy and lightning. But on their wedding day the weather was perfect. In fact, most of their guests spent the evening under the stars, enjoying the balmy weather and pretty views.

We started the morning at Scott and his groomsmen Bryan,Nathan, Pete and Matt who were getting ready at Broad water Como Resort.  After wandering down to the river, we visited Casandra and her bridesmaids Tash, Misty, Marisa and Catrina in their room on the opposite side of the resort. Their wedding ceremony was held at St Columba Church in South Perth, which is one of our favourite churches, very cute and overlooking the CBD.  Father Tony Chiera was fantastic, I liked his meaningful musings, and loved the candle lighting , where they lit the candle facing their guests whilst Father held it. That’s the first time I’ve seen that!  After a quick stop by the Boat Shed for some bridal party photos, we made our way to their reception venue at South of Perth Yacht Club. It looked amazing, WED on Beaufort did an amazing job as usual!! Oh and the food was awesome. The cutest cocktail style food, but laid out like a buffet. After that followed some very crazy dancing, by young and old!!

Thank you so much for having us at your fun, vibrant, yet relaxed wedding. And Cas for being such a happy, expressive bride, never seen so much jumping up and down going on, especially in those heels! We had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed the festive atmosphere! Enjoy Mauritius!!

A South of Perth Yacht Club Wedding with Michelle and Vedran

The South of Perth Yacht Club has to be one of my favourite wedding venues in Perth. Michelle and Vedran glammed up their special day with some of their best friends and family, and made it a day to remember for a long time.

Tell us about how you met? We’ve actually known each other for 12 years, and we first met through mutual friends. Over the years we would bump into each other occasionally, but it wasn’t until 6 years ago that we started running in the same social circles. We spent a year just hanging out as friends before we started dating. 

How did the proposal go? It happened on our first trip together to Europe. We were staying in Lake Como, Italy – one of the most beautiful places you will ever see – and is well known  for Villa Oleandra, George Clooney’s summer residence. Vedran hired a boat (with no license mind you!) and we spent the afternoon exploring the lake. Half way around we stopped in front of the Clooney residence, I turn to take some photos, and when I turned back around Vedran is down on one knee holding out a ring and asks me to marry him! 

In a few sentences, how would you describe your wedding day? We feel it was a mix of culture and tradition, with a modern twist! We wanted to incorporate the essence of Serbian culture in a way that encouraged those who may not be familiar with the customs to get amongst it! It was very loud and so much fun, a total vibe! 

Was there a particular vibe or theme you went for? The most important thing to us was for the day to be a true reflection of who we are as a couple and let our energy and love for each other create the vibe! Weddings are a serious deal, but it’s also one big party. At the end of the day everyone is there to celebrate your union – what more do you need?! 

What’s your favourite detail from the day? Walking into the reception and seeing all of our hard work come to fruition! We dedicated a lot of time and energy into planning a day that not only we enjoyed, but all our friends and family enjoyed too. We had an idea of what it would look like, but to see how it all came together in real life was magical. 

What about your favourite moment? It’s impossible to single out one! Walking out of the limo to be greeted by all our friends and family! We went straight into the Kolo (a traditional Serbian dance) and everyone got involved, that just set the tone for the evening! Oh and our first dance was everything! Our song came on and it was like we were the only ones there, totally absorbed in the moment, it’s something we’ll keep with us forever.

How did you decide on your venue? The venue was the easiest decision of the whole planning process. We wanted something elegant but not too formal at the same time. The view of the city from South Perth is amazing, especially at sun set and after the first viewing of the marquee we booked it straight away. 

If you were to do it again, what would do you differently? The little things that didn’t go exactly to plan were not things we could have predicted, so as cliche as it sounds.. absolutely nothing! 

Any advice you would give to other couples planning their wedding? *Allow yourself enough time for planning; It’s a massive task, especially if you don’t have a stylist and you are organising everything on your own like we did! *Be kind to yourself and your partner. The process is stressful at times and although you may have disagreements, it’s better to compromise than argue! If it gets overwhelming, take a break and go back to it another day. *Do your best to be practical, accept the possibility of some things not going exactly to plan. There is so much pressure for your wedding day to be perfect but if you approach it with a realistic attitude it will alleviate a lot of stress, allowing you to relax & enjoy the day to its fullest!

SOUTH OF PERTH YACHT CLUB WEDDING – ASHLEIGH & KARL

Ashleigh and  Karl’s South of Perth Yacht Club wedding.

Style, class, sophistication and a whole lot of family connection. That is how I would describe Ashleigh and Karl’s wedding. When I get to spend time with my couples families, and I get to see the love that they have for each other it always warms my heart. I love to see the parents so emotional, so connected to the moment.

Without even knowing it, I gravitated to this green chair in Ashleigh’s parents room for some photos on the day. To my surprise, Ashleigh’s mum explained that it was the very chair she nursed Ashleigh in when she was a baby. It’s funny how sometimes we just know something is important or special.

I’ll also cherish that moment that Ashleigh got to reveal her dress to her Dad and best gals for the very first time. Their reactions were just so special, it was a moment that you just can’t replicate.

Ashleigh and Karl’s wedding was another one of those days where I’m reminded of how wonderful my couples really are. I’m truly blessed to meet such amazing people through my work, and getting to spend one of the most important days of their life with them is just the cherry on top!

Ashleigh and Karl, you are both wonderful people and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for including me in your day. Jx

Libby & Dave's South of Perth Yacht Club Wedding

THE DRESS  When I started the journey of finding my perfect dress, I had selected three places I wanted to visit and had chosen a few dresses off each website which I thought I might like. After visiting the first store (I won’t name names) where I tried on five or so dresses, I left feeling a bit like I’d been in a meat market for dresses and was a bit deflated.

The next stop was Samantha Wynne where we were treated to an exclusive one-on-one experience. After trying on four dresses, I wriggled my way into the final option which also happen to be the one! I could see my bridesmaids and both our mums had fallen in love with the dress which made it in an easy choice. Really not knowing what I wanted in a dress, it wasn’t until I found the one that I realised I wanted something that made me feel special, while also being comfortable and allowing me to feel good about myself. My gown from Samantha Wynne was really a thing of dreams and I have had so many compliments.

Needless to say, I cancelled the last appointment and we all went for lunch to celebrate!

HOW DID YOU FIRST MEET?  Dave and I first met in the winter of 2018 over drinks at Hadiqa in the city. As you do in Perth, it wasn’t long before we realised we knew a lot of the same people and were quite surprised we hadn’t come across each other before.

After a few drinks and great conversation, we said our goodbyes. We ended up catching up a few times of the next few weeks, before I headed to Vietnam and Cambodia on holidays for a month. It was while I was away that I realised Dave was different and could be ‘the one’.  And as they say, the rest is history.

THE PROPOSAL  Dave was extremely romantic and had arranged the most stunning proposal on the front porch of our new home, which we’d moved into the week before. I really wasn’t expecting a proposal as we’d made a big financial commitment buying our home, so it came as a complete shock to me when it all unfolded. I actually thought he’d arranged the whole thing initially because he’d played golf on our anniversary and we didn’t end up doing anything together!

Dave had arranged for a friend to get me out of the house to run an ‘urgent errand’ and a few of his mates came around to help him setup before I returned. I walked up to candles, a beautiful cheese board and champagne, and the next thing I knew he was down on one knee and I just started crying. We were flying out to Cairns the following morning, so Dave had secretly arranged for my parents to meet us at a small bar down the road for a drink to celebrate our engagement.

FAVOURITE MOMENT  I don’t think I have a favourite moment from our wedding – the whole day was honestly so amazing. I know a lot of people say it, but it really is the best day of your life. We were so lucky to have our loved ones all in one place to help us celebrate our big day.

I will say that we got the surprise of our lives when, after a lot of secret planning by my parents, fireworks erupted on the river mid-way through the night. We definitely weren’t expecting this and it was a highlight for everyone who attended.

THE VENUE  We planned our wedding in around six months, so it was a bit harder to find venues – especially in peak wedding season. We knew we wanted to get married along the river for a close connection to our daily lives, and we had visions of our guests dancing under the stars at the end of the night.

We were lucky enough to find an available date in February at the South of Perth Yacht Club which ticked all our boxes. We were able to have our ceremony and reception all in one place, making use of both the stunning views in the outdoor setting and the protection and more intimate nature of the marquee, with an outdoor dance floor.

FAVOURITE DETAILS  I loved every detail of our wedding. Our colour palette was quite neutral as the views over the Swan River really did all the talking. Our flowers from Floral Army were stunning and so elegant, and we had arranged for a swing to be installed with the city in the background for photos during the day. We knew we had an incredible venue, so we could really pair back on the detail which was a fantastic help.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES  Know how you want the day to be and channel that energy. We had always had a dream of our wedding being a bit party with our nearest and dearest and being together and in the moment for the whole day.

I was so glad that I was extremely prepared and organised ahead of the big day. When I woke up the morning of our wedding, I wasn’t worried about a thing, I was really relaxed, and was able to enjoy every moment as it unfolded knowing everything was in hand.

When it comes to dress shopping, I loved the personal experience at Samantha Wynne and have since recommended Sam to a number of friends who are getting married or know someone who is. It can be overwhelming getting in and out of so many dresses, and having others giving you their opinion, so make sure you have a least one person who can be really honest with you and help you make that all important decision.

BEST WEDDING SPEND  Our DJ (DJ Aslan) and photographer and videographer (Ben and Ebony) were really worth the money. DJ Aslan had come highly recommended from a few people we knew, and we heard the dance floor was already pumping while we were off for photos! He kept everyone on the dance floor all night and the range of music was perfect for a mix of old and young.

We came across Ben and Ebony in our hunt for photographers (and let me tell you they are hard to find at short notice!). After looking through their website, catching up for a drink with them, and then coincidentally finding out a few different couples we knew had used them, we locked them in straight away. We were so pleased with our photos, and Ben and Ebony are so lovely to work with and were an incredible help and support on the day. We didn’t originally intend on getting a video made, however my cousin talked us into it and we haven’t regretted it so far (we have probably watched it once a week since the wedding!).
