Lil Yachty

Lil Yatchy gets a new 4PF chain from Lil Baby and a super fast Ferrari F8 Tributo Spider from Quality Control’s Pee Thomas for his birthday.

It has been just about three months since Lil Yachty totaled his red Ferrari on an Atlanta freeway , miraculously escaping without any severe physical injuries. Naturally, Yachty’s car collection suffered a deficit. However, that has now been replenished at the hand of the rapper’s label, Quality Control. Pierre Thomas, who spearheads the QC brand, was among a group of other supporters who unveiled the brand new Ferrari.

Both Yachty and Thomas shared the special moment on their IG pages. In a cool little post, Thomas celebrated the “Minnesota” rapper’s loyalty meanwhile asking him not to crash the cocaine ‘white on white’ ride gifted to him for his 23rd birthday. “Happy Birthday @lilyachtyThank You For Always Being Solid And True To Yourself. It’s Always Appreciated. Don’t Crash This One Please. Courtesy Of @qualitycontrolmusic #F8,” he penned in the caption. The “Act Up” writer returned the love in his post by labeling Pee as a terrific managerial force. “Best ceo and manager of all time.@qcmceo_p @coachk44 thank y’all so much. I love y’all 4L,” came the comment from Yachty.

Congratulations and birthday wishes from many of the industry’s top names, including Drake, Moneybagg Yo, Wack 100, Yung Miami, and Rich The Kid flooded the comment areas of both posts.

A 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo Spider is valued at anywhere between $274,280 to US$300,000 MSRP. The beast of a ride boasts an engine that produces 710 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. Other interesting car specs include a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, the ability to go from 0-60 mph in 2.9 sec, 0-124 mph in 7.8 secs, and a top speed of 211 mph. With so much power hiding under the pristine and shapely body, Lil Yachty should be extra careful with this one.

The lavish ride was not the only gift presented to Lil Boat, as his friend and labelmate Lil Baby also presented him with some bling. The birthday boy showcased the iced out 4PF pendant usually sported by Baby meanwhile praising Lil Baby’s rise to fame.

While many fans will not be able to cop the “One Night” rapper a fancy gift, they are indeed able to show their support by listening to his brand new ‘Birthday Mix 5’ uploaded to Soundcloud.

At the very beginning of Lil Baby 's career, he was wearing one of Lil Yachty 's chains. Now, the tables have turned.

With Lil Yachty celebrating a birthday this week, turning twenty-three, the rapper was excited to open his presents to see what everybody got him. He was surprised when he unpackaged a jewelry box from Lil Baby , which contained a blinged-out chain representing his 4PF label imprint.

"This n***a @lilbaby_1 use to wear my chains when he first started rappin, now he buyin me one," wrote the birthday boy on Instagram. Of course, Lil Boat had to reference the fact that his Quality Control labelmate's chains are being sold at Walmart as bootlegs .

Baby confirmed the caption that Yachty used, stating that people always looked at him funny when he was rocking his friend's old chain.

"I used to wear that snowman chain n***as thought I was fuccin with them," he wrote in the comments.

In addition to the 4PF chain, Lil Yachty also got a brand new Ferrari from the heads of Quality Control, Coach K and P. Happy birthday to Lil Yachty!

Lil Baby, Lil Yachty

Lil Baby and Lil Yachty are showing major friend goals as Lil Baby just presented Lil Yachty with an icy new chain.

The jewelry was the Atlanta rapper’s birthday gift to Lil Yachty, whose real name is Miles Parks McCollum. The gift served as a full-circle moment as Lil Baby used to wear a “4PF” chain at the start of his own career.

Lil Yachty, 23, commemorated the moment on Instagram and shared a screenshot of him and Lil Baby on a FaceTime call. He captioned the post:

“This n***a @lilbaby_1 use to wear my chains when he first started rappin, now he buyin me one. Wow I’m proud of u bro, I appreciate this too.”

In the hashtags, Lil Yachty pokes fun at the fact that Walmart was selling his chain on their website:

“#realistnigga #chainnotfromwalmart #yesb***him4pftoo”

Lil Baby, 25, commented under the post and said:

“I used to wear that snowman chain n****s thought I was f****n with them”

In addition to his new chain, Yachty also received a brand new Ferrari from the heads of the record label Quality Control, which Lil Baby is also signed to.

Maybe We Know a Little Too Much About Lil Yachty

By Andre Gee

Last year, I spoke with Lil Yachty about mystique. Our conversation about his Let’s Start Here album got awkward when he told me he didn’t want to reveal too much about its creation. I asked him about plans to release a documentary he recorded about the project, and he told me, “I doubt I’ll drop it. Just like me not wanting to do any of these interviews. I don’t really care to talk about it, [because] you give it all away [when] you pull the curtain back.”

When I asked him if he put a premium on artists with an allure of mystery when he was younger, he told me, “Coming up, you didn’t have all this social media. Even if [they] did an interview, you didn’t get every element of something. It’s the simple things you knew, but they left a lot of room for ‘Wow, how did he make this?’… Which is the beauty in art.”

“I think Chapter One of my career is extremely oversaturated,” he told me. “I was thinking … I’m easily accessible. I’m on TikTok. I’m on YouTube. I’m on Twitter. I’m just everywhere. I didn’t like that.” But 18 months after our conversation, it feels like Yachty’s would-be triumphant next chapter is being marred by the same overexposure.

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, 25 most influential creators of 2024.

Yachty’s rap career is defined by a collage of viral moments. His first single, 2015’s “One Night,” went viral on SoundCloud. He came into public consciousness during the 2016 live stream of Yeezy Season 3. His “Minnesota” hit was the score to the hip-hop generational war being waged on rap Twitter, with his ignorance of Biggie and 2Pac’s catalog not helping things. And his Everyday Struggle admission that he didn’t know the full details of his QC contract made him fodder for anyone seeking to soapbox about naive rappers signing bad deals. Yachty saw all of the criticism, and he pushed back, arguably losing the musical charm that made him a distinct artist by trying to prove he could rap. He told me, that during that period, “I was trying to be the spokesman for the new generation because no one else wanted to talk. I felt, ‘I’m going to stand up. I’m going to speak.’”

A$ap rocky plays with perspective in cinematic 'highjack' video, cash cobain strikes while his sound is red hot on ‘play cash cobain’.

But it never stays strictly about the music with Yachty. During a Let’s Start Here listening event, he told the crowd he “wanted to be taken seriously as an artist and not just a SoundCloud rapper, not just a mumble rapper, not just a guy that made one hit.” Some people felt his comments implied that being “just” a rapper was inferior, but he told me that was “absolutely not” what he was trying to say. Regardless of his clarification, the perception of elitism stuck, and was intensified when he surmised that “hip-hop is in a terrible place” during our November 2023 Musicians on Musicians l ive event .

During an emotionally charged Instagram Live session, he claimed that he wrote all of Karrahbooo’s music and threw the remaining Concrete Boys under the bus by claiming he dressed all of them. He and Karrahbooo have since been taking to their stories to clap back at each other, making a bad situation worse. Yachty’s currently being lambasted as the kind of person who can’t wait to tell the world what they did for you — you never wanna be that guy.

Perhaps people are letting the jokes fly for the moment, and Yachty dropping the right song will shift all the attention away from his mic miscues. Maybe Yachty doesn’t care what the public thinks. But it’s interesting to watch someone who’s repeatedly referenced not wanting to be accessible, and wishing he hadn’t opened his mouth, seemingly be unable to help himself from speaking out — in frequently self-sabotaging ways. It feels like the same digital soil that fertilized Yachty’s career is also his quicksand.

Rappers Come Shop for Jewelry. Icebox Turns the Cameras On.

An Atlanta store where hip-hop’s big names buy diamond-encrusted watches and chains has become a social media phenomenon by capturing the safe spaces of the rich and flamboyant.

By Jon Caramanica

ATLANTA — The display cases at the Atlanta jewelry store Icebox teem with Cuban link chains, watches called bustdowns covered edge to edge in diamonds, gold pendants in dozens of designs. It is the ne plus ultra of contemporary hip-hop luxury. And over the last three years, Icebox has built a secondary business atop this phenomenon, starting a YouTube channel filled with videos of rappers coming in to salivate and shop.

But often, the most striking characteristics of these lavish 10-minute videos aren’t the ostentatious pieces of jewelry, or even the artists themselves. The clips are among the most soothing places on the hip-hop internet, conveying a powerful sense of calm, of relaxation. They capture the safe spaces of the rich and otherwise flamboyant — watching Icebox videos is like being let in on a secret. More than a million people subscribe to the store’s YouTube channel.

In one video, Lil Baby sits down and discusses his recent arrest in Paris. In others, Pooh Sheisty asks to see where jewelry is cleaned, then takes a stab at doing the job himself. NLE Choppa gets a haircut while getting shown a series of bustdowns and talking about revitalizing his hometown. Swae Lee spends a long time staring in a mirror, making sure his various chains will drape around his neck just so. Lil Durk gets to look inside one of the store’s huge safes, his eyes wide.

There is maybe no greater luxury than time, and Icebox videos, which come out weekly, show some of the most successful rappers in the country at their most tranquil. The transactions are large, sometimes into the mid-six figures, and the larger they are, the warmer the clips become. The videos are documents of men falling in love, their faces softening ever so faintly at the sight of a new toy they — and maybe only they — can afford.

“This is the place you purchase what you’re going to eventually flex, but in the store it’s intimate, it’s friendly, it’s comfortable,” said Rafi Jooma, 35, who owns and operates the business along with his brothers Mo, 37, and Zahir, 32, and their parents. “You see their opinions, their personalities, you see their emotions.”

One Thursday afternoon in June, about 10 members of the Icebox video and social media staff were in the nondescript media room toward the rear of the shop, finalizing a video featuring the hilarious post office employee turned rapper BFB Da Packman, in which he ordered doughnuts to the shop and worked on a design for a custom doughnut-shaped pendant. Up on the wall was a whiteboard with an editorial calendar of upcoming videos, both completed and in progress.

In the adjoining hallway, Lil Yachty, who had just popped into the store, was curled up on a small set of steps, talking about his earliest trips to Icebox before stealing off with Zahir to a private room to discuss a new custom pendant he wanted made.

“I walk all up and down that place,” said Lil Yachty, who estimates that he’s spent around $3 million with Icebox over the past five years. “I probably got more access than some of the workers.”

The videos, which arrive at the same time every Thursday afternoon, have familiar rhythms. The artist comes in to sniff around for a new plaything, often interacting with one of the Jooma brothers. And then, more often than not, they linger.

Trying on a piece, Mo said, Lil Baby will “go to a different room, look at it in different light, adjust it, come back to the original room he was in, wants to see how it looks everywhere, jacket off, jacket on.” The videos, which are filmed vérité style and paced deliberately, soak in the scene, documenting the familiarity and comfort behind hip-hop’s relentless self-mythologization.

While there are several jewelers that currently specialize in catering to the needs of hip-hop clientele, and plenty of others have filled that role throughout the years — think Jacob Arabo (a.k.a. Jacob the Jeweler) or Johnny Dang (a.k.a. TV Johnny) — Icebox has optimized the business for the social media moment.

The Jooma family jewelry business began in the early 1970s when Mike, the patriarch, emigrated from Pakistan and began selling Native American jewelry at a Florida flea market. A few years later he was joined by his wife, Dinar, and they eventually moved their business from flea markets to malls. At their peak in the 1990s, they operated five stores, primarily in Texas.

In 2003, they moved the family, and the business, to Atlanta, opening a single store in a mall in Gwinnett County, north of the city. By then, the children were old enough to more formally help the shop, which had been stalling financially. Already hip-hop fans, they saw an opportunity in the city’s booming music scene . The brothers, all of whom forewent college to join the family business, began making themselves known at the city’s radio stations, recording studios and after-hours spots, passing out business cards at Club 112, trying to befriend interns and assistants who might introduce them to managers who might introduce them to rappers.

“We had one goal — to get our family out of this recession,” Rafi said.

(Their parents are now divorced, but both still work in the business — their father as a diamond buyer, and their mother overseeing the day-to-day finances — and share ownership with their sons.)

The brothers made some inroads: After meeting Zahir, the Atlanta radio D.J. Greg Street began referring clients to the store. At the brothers’ urging, the family started Icebox as a hip-hop-focused sub-line in 2006. When the store moved in 2009 to a prime corner in the tony Buckhead neighborhood it still occupies, it was rechristened Icebox.

The new location quickly became a magnet for the city’s emerging hip-hop superstar class, and a regular stop for artists coming through town on tour, or athletes in town for games. It was closer to the luxury malls that were becoming the stomping grounds of the city’s entertainment elite, and it presented a more approachable proposition than the stiffness of Atlanta’s jewelry district.

In the late 2000s, T-Pain began wearing custom Icebox jewelry. “To have someone so iconic, so world-changing wearing our product was the greatest compliment possible,” Rafi said. “He changed music, but he changed Icebox.”

Oodles more hip-hop clients followed, many of whom found Icebox more welcoming than the city’s other jewelry options. “You think about the guy in Atlanta who comes in with a bunch of tattoos, smells a little bit like weed, has long dreads — nine out of 10 places he goes, they’re not showing him any respect,” Zahir said. “We’re here to give them respect from the moment they walk in the store.”

Icebox started to become a rapper safe space and playground. Soulja Boy and Wiz Khalifa filmed themselves coming into the store for videos they posted online. In the mid-2010s, as Instagram was becoming ubiquitous as a tool of social documentation, “we started to see celebrities were posting pictures of themselves with other celebrities in Icebox,” Mo said. Every week, the store tended to several stars, many of whom were bringing their own videographers to make content.

The store began posting short videos of its own on Instagram, and began posting the long-form YouTube videos it’s now known for in 2018. It’s typical that one or more of the brothers will appear in the clips, but originally, “none of us wanted to be in the picture, we would always fight about who was going to be in it,” Zahir said. “We care about the family business legacy more than our own personal name.”

Now, they are regulars, whether it’s helping to sell expensive pieces, small-talking to make customers comfortable, or even sometimes cleaning jewelry themselves: “Most of the time you don’t see the owner of the car dealership detailing the car,” Rafi said. “Anybody should be able to do anything.”

The videos are largely unscripted, though there tend to be themes, or set pieces, especially with rappers who’ve appeared in several. Interspersed throughout are lusty glamour shots of necklaces, rings and watches. For some rappers, an Icebox video has become a semiofficial part of their press run, coming in the store a few weeks before an album release to do some shopping and have the extravagance filmed. On YouTube, Icebox videos generally receive between 500,000 and 2 million views, depending on the popularity of the guest.

Artists are given informal approval over the videos. “It’s our responsibility to make sure that they feel comfortable with whatever content is going out,” Mo said.

“We both provide something to each other,” he continued. “We respect their time and what they’re giving us for sure. That we can’t put a price on. They also respect that we treat them as individuals, you can’t put a price on that either.”

This intimacy has led to close relationships between the Jooma brothers and several hip-hop luminaries. Lil Baby is such a fan of the store that he requested Icebox install a pop-up shop at his most recent birthday party, which was diamond-themed. (Icebox brought $10 million in jewelry and 10 security guards.) Young Thug is a regular. “We get specific chips and snacks for him. We keep his snacks in our family’s office,” Mo said. Every Christmas Eve for the past several years, T.I. comes to buy gifts.

“I have a relationship with every single one” of the brothers, the Memphis rapper NLE Choppa said, adding that he values Icebox for “how caring they are, how helpful they are. They’re very informational about everything.”

Mo acknowledged that Icebox clients will shop at other jewelry stores. “But there’s no one that’s going to be able to treat them with the appreciation for their craft or their art like we can,” he said.

To make the videos, Icebox employs five full-time videographers. But the clips, fun as they are, are a means to an end, a marketing expense in service of the broader jewelry business. That includes lavish custom pieces for celebrities, and also the hundreds of Icebox-branded items available on the shop’s website, an entry-point extravagance for flaunters who can’t make it into the store. “Most men have not walked into a jewelry store before,” Zahir said. “We’re kind of teaching you how to shop for jewelry.”

Ultimately, Icebox videos serve as the catalyst for the reproduction and dissemination of aspiration. On the one hand, they capture the wealthy in the throes of spending ecstasy. “We want to make an item so nice that when people try it on, it hurts them in their stomach and they have to own it,” said Zahir, who often designs custom pieces for clients he hasn’t yet met. Icebox’s custom 4PF chain for Lil Baby, which features a pair of shorts with four pockets and cash tumbling out of each, all covered in diamonds, was made on spec — no deposit, no design confirmation.

The business has been wildly successful, across a wide spectrum of price points. Icebox is in the middle of an expansion that will quintuple the footprint of the business, including dedicated filming areas and a VIP entrance.

Mo said that he sometimes reminds his staff of the full scope of Icebox’s reach: “Don’t forget that we have to sell jewelry — the video’s the bonus.”

But the videos are helping cultivate the next generation of Icebox customers. That’s true, too, of the Icebox TikTok account which, at 5 million followers, is the store’s most popular format. “The jeweler they know is not Cartier or Tiffany, the jeweler they know is Icebox,” Zahir said of the TikTok generation. “We’re planting seeds that nobody else is planting.”

Eventually, perhaps, someone who first encountered the company via these videos will become well-known and well-off enough to come into the store and merit a YouTube video of their own. When that happens, the look on their face will be telling. “When they come in, the kid comes out in them, like, ‘I can’t believe I’m here,’” Mo said of artists arriving at Icebox for the first time. “I don’t always realize that they’re coming in as a fan.”

An earlier version of this article misstated how Lil Durk views one of Icebox's safes in a video. He looks in from outside, but does not enter the safe.

Lil Baby Launches New Record Label, Signs Rylo Rodriguez as First Artist

Thomas Galindo

Updated:

What was once 4PF is now Glass Window Entertainment. This week, Lil Baby, whose legal name is Dominique Jones, announced the launch/rebranding of his new record label Glass Window Entertainment, replacing his 4PF imprint which he established in 2017. To help christen the new label, operating under Motown Records and Capitol Music Group, Baby signed Alabama rapper Rylo Rodriguez as his first artist under Glass Window.

Videos by American Songwriter

“We are excited to welcome Dominique, Rylo and the Glass Window Entertainment team to Capitol Music Group/Motown Records,” Capitol Music Group Chair & CEO Michelle Jubelirer said in a statement via press release. “Glass Window and Virgin Records have done a phenomenal job introducing Rylo. We’re thrilled to support this remarkable artist and upcoming Glass Window releases.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by DJ Akademiks (@akademiks)

Initially, Rodriguez was a signee of Baby’s 4PF label, which operated alongside the Atlanta-based label Quality Control. As he began to rise through the hip-hop ranks, Rodriguez would appear on Baby songs like “Stick On Me” (2017), “No Friends” (2018), “Forget That” (2020), and most recently, “Cost To Be Alive,” from Baby’s 2022 album It’s Only Me .

Earlier this summer (June 30), Rodriguez released Been One , his second full-length project to date. Including appearances from Baby, Lil Yachty, Lil Durk, Fridayy , and more, the LP would go on to peak at No. 10 on the Billboard 200.

“I’m overly excited for Rylo and for his fans and the world to really get to see him on a larger platform! It’s been a long time coming with Rylo and even longer to go! We got work to do and money to get!” Baby said in a statement attached to the Glass Window press release. “Thank you to Motown/Capitol Music Group and Universal Music Group for trusting my process and I’m looking forward to a wonderful partnership!”

Baby and Rodriguez hit the road together on July 26 for their North American It’s Only Us Tour, having already completed five tour stops.

Lil Yachty and Karrahbooo’s Feud Escalates With Bullying Accusations

Lil Yachty and his former artist Karrahbooo 's feud escalates with bullying accusations.

Lil Yachty and Karrahbooo Continue Throwing Shots at Each Other

On Sunday (Aug. 25), Lil Yachty hopped on his Instagram Story to address Karrahbooo's claims about writing her own rhymes and being bullied. Karrahbooo was part of Yachty's Concrete Boys collective. Although Yachty didn't directly address the 27-year-old rhymer, his message suggested that he clapped back at her allegations.

"Don't throw rocks and hide your hands," Boat wrote on his IG Story post below.

After catching wind of the Atlanta rapper's message, Karrahbooo posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram Story about supporting others in times of need and alluded to Yachty picking on her.

"I'll never forget this feeling, this chapter of my life. I'll never be the same," Karrahbooo penned in her IG Story. "I'll never forget who was there for me. I done chopped people out/spent my last/slapped folks 4 ni**as. I ride every time naturally, but that's just how I am. Nobody owe me sh*t tbh I'm just taking a mental note. I can't even look at most people da same way. To know the truth and watch a grown man with 12 million followers overly lie on my name and publicly bully me for literally no reason at all while I silently been conquering all da sh*t ni**as been throwing me this whole time behind closed doors. I'll never ignore the signs again, and I will never stop, no matter how much they hate me."

In her next IG Story post, Karrahbooo responded to Yachty's aforementioned message, insisting that they could discuss their issues on the phone. She also stated that she just wanted to make peace with individuals in the music scene.

"I never threw rocks and u have my number you big grown b**ch. Leave me alone literally @lilyachty," she typed in her IG Story post. "I never said nothing about sh*t and I still ain't say nothing 'bout what's really going on. I don't want no beef wit you industry people. Just move on wit ur life. Stop tryna bring me down when I stay out the way. I'm done talking. You got it. Yo character gone speak for itself."

Why are lil yachty and karrahbooo beefing.

Things went south between Lil Yachty and Karrahbooo after a fan shared a post on social media and claimed that after bumping into Karrahbooo at a restaurant, the rapper told her she was kicked out of Concrete Boys and bullied during her time on the label . On Aug. 22, Lil Yachty went live on Instagram and denied Karrahbooo's bullying allegations . Boat said Karrahbooo was actually the one bullying others.

"Tell people how you talk to people," Yachty said in his heated video below. "How you tell my security guard, 'Oh, you homeless. You work for me. You're poor. We above you.' You talk to people like they nothing...Tell people how you verbally abuse people. How you said you gon' spit on me when you see me."

"I been letting you do this whole thing where you act like you a princess and you sweet," he continued. "Stop the front, bro. We have withheld your actions since the beginning of me giving you this career. What the f**k are we talking about, bro. You don't even do nothing. It's so crazy to me, bro. ’Cause I've given you a career, and from time to time, you just disrespect me.

Boat then mentioned that Karrahbooo has a $900,000 debt to his label. Afterward, the Quality Control rhymer leaked his reference track to Karrahbooo's 2023 On The Radar Freestyle , suggesting that she didn't pen the lyrics.

Karrahbooo Claps Back at Lil Yachty's Claims About Writing Her Lyrics

On Aug. 23, Karrahbooo went on her Instagram Story to clap back at Yachty by sharing three songs she claimed to write and highlighted their streaming counts.

"Running Late," boasted over 7 million streams, "Where Yo Daddy," garnered 3 million streams and the On the Radar Concrete Cypher freestyle hit nearly 3 million streams.

Karrahbooo captioned the image, "put it on yo kid i ain't these songs [M]iles[.] Stop da cap and leave me out ur internet shenanigans [tears of joy emoji]."

She continued: "Stop bullying me big dawg [tears of joy emoji] i never said nothing u letting random fans get in yo head man up."

During her performance at the Dig in Day Festival in Chicago on Aug. 24, Karrahbooo suggested that Yachty's ghostwriting claims were false.

"Who ain't write it, who ain't write it," she rapped during her performance in the video below.

Lil Yachty & Karrahbooo Trade More Shots As Concrete Boys Drama Continues

Lil Yachty & Karrahbooo Trade More Shots As Concrete Boys Drama Continues

Lil Yachty and Karrahbooo are continuing to go back and forth in a feud that has seemingly been brewing for some time.

After Karrah recently departed his Concrete Boys collective, Yachty went on a rant about his former assistant turned artist late last week, accusing her of being “verbally abusive” toward his bodyguard and alleging he wrote all of her raps.

She then clapped back and denied that her songs were written by Yachty and told him to stop bullying her.

Now in their newest exchange, Karrah is asking to be left alone and accuses Yachty of coming at her for no reason.

“I’ll never forget this feeling, this chapter of my life. i’ll never be the same, I’ll never forget who wasn’t there for me,” she said on her Instagram Story. “I done chomped people out/spent my last/slapped folks 4 n-ggas, I ride every time naturally but that’s just how I am. Nobody owe me shit tbh im just taking a mental note.”

She continued: “I can’t even look at most people da same way, to know the truth and watch a grown man with 12 million followers overly lie on my name and publicly bully me for literally no reason at all while I silently been conquering all da shit n-ggas been throwing at me this whole time behind closed doors. I’ll never ignore the signs again and I will never stop no matter how much they hate me.”

In response, Yachty to his own Instagram Story and simply wrote: “Don’t throw rocks and hide your hand.”

This prompted another reply from Karrahbooo.

Lil Yachty’s initial outburst was seemingly sparked by a social media post claiming that Karrahbooo had been bullied out of the Concrete Boys.

A restaurant employee claimed on X to have been told by Karrah herself that she had been “kicked out” of the collective and that the group members were “bullying her a lot.”

Karrahbooo later made a vague reference to the drama on her own X account, quote tweeting her own post which said: “ion say too much cuz I know shit gone unfold on its own,” with the comment: “this aged well.”

Lil Yachty dives into psychedelica on ‘Let’s Start Here’

Lil Yachty shocked the world with one of the most stark musical shifts from an uber-successful artist in recent history with his new album, released on Jan. 27. “Let’s Start Here,” as the name suggests, serves as a beginning for a new era of Lil Yachty.

Rapper Lil Yachty is known for his catchy pop-rap hits and signature falsetto vocals. Songs like “iSpy” and “Minnesota” carried him to fame in the mid-2010s during the rise of the trap subgenre. Since then, Yachty has continued to make music in this style, often at his best when collaborating with other popular trap artists. After a relatively unnoteworthy 2021, Lil Yachty was forced to release the single “Poland,” after it was leaked in October. Despite the song being made as a joke, it blew up on TikTok, propelling Lil Yachty back into the spotlight and setting the stage for “Let’s Start Here.”

lil yachty 4pf

“Let’s Start Here” sees Lil Yachty shift toward a psychedelic rock sound, a far departure from his trap roots. Lil Yachty expressed in a speech at his Jan. 26 album release party his dedication to his craft and desire to be taken seriously as a musical artist rather than just another SoundCloud rapper.

Lil-Yachty-Lets-Start-Here_2

“Music is everything to me,” Yachty said to the crowd of fans. “I respect all walks of music, not just rap/hip-hop, everything. So, I think I wanted to make something that showed the world just how great [music] was to me.”

True to his word, Lil Yachty successfully taps into a new genre in this album, something many rappers have tried and failed to do. Whether it be Kid Cudi’s ill- advised grunge album “Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven” or Machine Gun Kelly’s infamous transition to pop punk with “Tickets To My Downfall,” many former rappers have attempted rock albums that come across as tasteless imitations. Unlike his peers, Lil Yachty is able to capture the psychedelic sound gracefully while still adding his own unique flair. He primarily accomplishes this feat by partnering up with experienced psychedelic rock producers such as Mac Demarco and Patrick Wimberly of Chairlift fame.

The album’s focus on detailed production is evident from track to track. The opening song, “the BLACK seminole.” introduces listeners to the album with its reverb guitar, drawling drums and epic musical transitions. Amazing synthesizer work is also a staple throughout this project, sometimes fluttering in the background on tracks like “the ride-” and other times taking over a melody for a moment of intensity, like on “REACH THE SUNSHINE.” While psychedelic production is the norm for the album, Lil Yachty taps into other genres to give each track a different feel. We get a pop twist on “the ride-” while “drive ME crazy!” goes in more of a disco direction.

On top of the magnificent production, Lil Yachty brings his trademark musical asset to the album: his voice. In his SoundCloud days, the rapper stood out from his contemporaries as more of a singer, known for his signature, and often out of tune, falsetto. While Lil Yachty doesn’t choose to use his falsetto on every track, the signature pitch does make some notable appearances. On “the ride-” and the end of “sAy sOMETHINg” the artist takes his voice to new heights with surprising success. He uses quite a bit of autotune, but the alterations actually add to the psychedelic atmosphere, rather than taking away from the experience. Even though Lil Yachty is not the most technically-impressive vocalist, his electronic-sounding vocals make sense for the sound of this album and often work better than on many of his previous hits. The artist’s singing contains more emotion on “Let’s Start Here” than ever before.

Lil_Yachty-1024x683

Skilled singers Foushee and Daniel Caesar, who each serve as great features on the project, continuously show up Lil Yatchy, although he does deliver on the vocals in his own right. Caesar provides stellar verses on the concluding “REACH THE SUNSHINE,” adding to the introspective theme of the track and album as a whole. Foushee shows up on two tracks, most notably “The Alchemist,” where she stamps her mark on the project with a smooth chorus to counter Lil Yachty’s high-energy verse. Caesar and Foushee are great additions, but Lil Yachty is the anchoring voice to the album.

Lil Yachty provides direction to each track, inviting the listener to follow along on his journey toward a new sound. The first half of the album sees Lil Yachty pondering responsibility and maturity, introducing the deeper and more serious tone of the project. The artist’s new maturity translates into a series of love songs where Lil Yachty makes it clear he is looking for a deeper connection with his partner. The three-song stretch of “WE SAW THE SUN!,” “drive ME crazy!” and “IVE OFFICIALLY LOST VISION” serve as the psychedelic climax of the album, with the tone shifting towards anguish on “IVE OFFICIALLY LOST VISION.” “sHouLd i B?,” a highlight of the latter half of the album, and “sAy sOMETHINg” see the artist trapped in the toxic aftermath of the failed attempt at love from earlier in the album. The journey ends with “REACH THE SUNSHINE,” which serves as an intense conclusion that immerses the listener in Daniel Ceasar’s silky vocals, Lil Yachty’s introspective lyrics and a wall of synthesizers.

While “Let’s Start Here,” is not a perfect psychedelic rock album, it successfully gives the listener a glimpse into Lil Yachty’s mind and effectively captures the sounds of its influences. “Let’s Start Here” has shown the artist’s immense versatility and potential to tap into any genre, proving wrong those who doubted Lil Yachty as a creator. Hopefully, Lil Yachty continues his creative metamorphosis in the next chapter of his discography.

Lil Yachty and Drake

Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s high-profile exchange might have cooled off since the “Not Like Us” video dropped, but it’s still a hot topic among Hip Hop fans and the pair’s frequent collaborators. On Wednesday (July 31), Lil Yachty appeared on Andrew Schulz’s “Flagrant” podcast, during which he was asked about the beef.

“I think people are just hating on Drake because he’s the guy,” the Teenage Emotions rapper said. He then referenced a now-archived episode of the “A Safe Place” podcast in which he gave his detailed thoughts on being named-dropped in Lamar’s “euphoria.”

“I wish I had never [spoken] on it. I wish I hadn’t said any part about it,” Lil Yachty told the hosts. Regarding the incident where he liked a tweet about Lamar allegedly cheating on his wife, the musician claimed, “That really was an accident.”

Schulz circled back to the topic later in the discussion, noting that Drake’s music still dominates at parties and clubs. the Georgia native responded, “Outside of the people who care about Hip Hop, [nobody gives a f**k] at all.”

Lil Yachty also commented on the OVO Sound founder’s attitude during the spat: “He really didn’t give a f**k. He was unfazed . I respect it a lot and I talked to him. That s**t didn’t bother him.” He continued, “I never saw him down ever. I never saw kicking his f**king foot [or] holding his head down. [It got] to a point where I just stopped talking to him about it because I felt like I was the one bringing him the negativity.”

On the “ A Safe Place ” podcast in May, the Quality Control Music signee initially said that Drake was “deemed a loser in this battle before it started,” mainly because he isn’t well-liked by some. He also mentioned that even if Lamar came out ahead in public opinion, the Toronto native come out on top in the long run.

Karrahbooo hits back at Lil Yachty for saying he wrote all of her music

By daryl nelson | aug 26, 2024.

2024 Gazebo Festival

There's been a major falling out between Lil Yachty and rapper Karrahbooo, resulting in a nasty back-and-forth. Earlier this year, Karrahbooo parted ways from Yachty's Concrete Boys crew, which was peaceful at first. That was until Yachty said she was ousted because of her bad attitude.

"Go ahead [and tell] people how you talk to people," said Yachty in part during a live stream. "You talk to people like they were nothing. Like they're small, like they're beneath you ... Your brain is clinically imbalanced ... I've given you a career and time and time you just disrespect me. I wrote every f******g verse you've done. I dressed you ... Internally, we have withheld your actions."

Karrahbooo eventually responded on Instagram by disputing Yachty's ghostwriting claim. "Put it on yo kid I ain’t write these songs miles, "she wrote, using Yachty's real name. “Stop da cap and leave me out ur internet shenanigans.”

KARRAHBOOO responded to Lil Yachty after he shared the reference track to her "On The Rader" freestyle verse and said she doesn't write. "Put it on yo kid i ain't write these songs miles -_- stop da cap… stop bullying me" pic.twitter.com/Vl0EhCMzGU — No Jumper (@nojumper) August 24, 2024

Last week Yachty also claimed that a fan told him Karrahbooo was bullied out of the Concrete Boys, but she denied ever saying that and accused the Atlanta rapper of being led astray. “Stop bullying me big dawg I never said anything you letting random fans get in yo head man up," she stated.

Then while onstage at Chicago's Pepsi Dig In Day, on Saturday, August 24, Karrahbooo doubled down on her denial that Yachty wrote all of her material by saying, "Who ain’t write it? Who ain’t write it?"

View this post on Instagram A post shared by DJ Akademiks (@akademiks)

For a second there, it looked like that would end the bickering, but it didn't because Yachty hit back. 'Don't throw rocks and hide your hand," he wrote on Instagram Stories.

“I never threw rocks and u have my number u big grown b***h,” Karrahbooo wrote back. “Leave me alone literally … I never said nothing bout s**t and I still ain’t said nothing bout what’s really going on. I don’t want no beef wit you industry people just move on wit ur life. Stop tryna bring me down when I stay out the way. I’m done talking. U got it. Yo character gone speak for itself.”
