BAREBOAT YACHT CHARTER IN CROATIA

• Home  

Bareboat yacht charter is a type of yacht rental where you charter a yacht and skipper it by yourself.

 You arrange the sailing itinerary completely by yourself, at your own pace, provided that you return in the base marina on agreed date and time. With the bareboat charter, the responsibility for yourself, your crew and the boat is completely in your hands.

For this type of charter, navigational and sailing skills adequate to the size of the boat you plan to charter are mandatory . You also need to posses the boat operator license and the VHF radio operator certificate , both issued by the authorized body in your country of origin.

If you are not sure whether the license you have is valid for bareboat charter in Croatia check if it is listed here .

In case you did not find your license on the list available through the link address above, we advise you to contact the authority in charge of issuing navigational licenses in your country. You should ask them to contact the Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs at i [email protected] and see if the license would be recognized in Croatia and enlisted on the list of recognized licenses.

• mooring in our base marina, ACI marina Split ( for catamarans only the first and last night )

ADDITIONAL COSTS

Apart from the boat’s rental price, when planning your budget for bareboat charter in Croatia you need to consider the following costs as well:

  150€ – 250€/week for 3-4 hours of motoring per day depending on the boat’s motor strength

FOOD & DRINKS

Supposing that you will be eating breakfast and light lunch onboard (buying groceries in the supermarket in Split and on the islands and preparing them on the boat) and have a dinner in one of many good local restaurants on the islands , from our experience, you will need ca. 50- 70€ per day per person

MOORING FEES

0-300€/night depending on the mooring type, place, time of the season and boat’s size. There are several possibilities: marina, port/harbour, buoy, anchor or restaurant’s mooring.

MARINA – the most expensive option, but at the same time, it offers you the security and comfort in the form of toilet and shower facilities, laundry services, shops, and restaurants.

PORTS – cheaper than marinas, the price depends on the boat size and the services offered. Some harbours offer you only electricity and water supply (these are cheaper), while in the others you have shower and toilet facilities as well (more expensive).

BUOY – cheaper option than marina or port, but then you are not attached to electricity and water supply and you need to use a dinghy to get ashore.

ANCHORING – is mostly free but in places where there are buoy fileds, you might be charged.

RESTAURANT’S MOORING – In some places there are mooring facilities offered by restaurants, some of them don’t charge you, but you are expected to have a meal in the restaurant while somewhere you are charged the fee but not obliged to eat in the restaurant.

You don’t have all the mentioned mooring options in each place, mostly just one, therefore, the final mooring cost will depend on the places you go to and the mooring options offered there.

Licence to sail in croatia.

To sail a yacht bareboat in Croatia the Croatian authorities require the skipper to be over 18 and have a sailing licence issued by a statutory authority. Currently this would be a photo card RYA Coastal Skipper practical certificate or higher, Bareboat Chartering Standard (ASA 104) or the equivalent from your country, ICC (International Certificate of Competence) for sail or an IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or SLC (Sailing Licence & Credentials) with NauticEd.  A VHF radio license is also required. The co-skipper should also be competent to assist the skipper to sail the yacht you are chartering and be over 18 years old. Higher level certification, such as Yacht Master is often required for larger yachts, for example, catamarans around 45 feet+. We can help you navigate your way to have the right qualifications and experience for the yacht you want to charter.

Kornati Islands

This area features 118 islands with little or no development. The islands have a golden hue to them as a result of herbs and wild flowers, making this area the pride of every Croatian.

Sail to one of the farthest inhabited islands off the Croatian coastline to sample some of Vis islands extraordinary white wine. Enjoy the one of the many pizzerias, restaurants and wine bars along Vis towns' busy promenade.

The Blue Cave at Bisevo Island is a phenomenal experience and arriving before noon is the key. Tour the cave by dinghy or day boat at midday to watch sun rays bounce off the sandy bottom making the water in the cave turn translucent.

Anchor at Hvar town under the shadows of Spanjola Fortress - the Venetian citadel that looms over the town. Hike the 1100 steps up to the fortress or wander the cobblestone streets of the city and explore the Cathedral of St Stephen with its 17th century bell tower. After sunset shop the many market stalls for lavender gifts or sip cocktails at one of the many bars Hvar is famous for. Also not to miss is Stari Grad, this charming town is one of the oldest towns in Croatia where ancient Greek stonewalls can be seen encircling the original settlement. Walk the waterfront and see St Stephen's Church, a beautiful 17th Century shrine in the town's main square.

This quiet island offers picturesque walks around the bay along with a small hotel and marina to explore. For the more active, hike to the hidden village of Zaklopatica for a spectacular view of the medieval enclave.

Spend a night in the charming dusty fishing village of Polace. Take a minibus to the breathtaking Holm Oak and Aleppo Pine forests of the Mljet National Park. The minibus drops off hikers at an inland salt-water lake, to embark small vessels to a sacred island where Benedictine Monks built a monastery in 12th century AD.

Moor at ACI Dubrovnik Marina, and take the short bus ride to explore one of the most historic and beautiful of all European cities. Learn about the old city of Dubrovnik's rich history and architectural wonders by renting a headset and walking the fortified city walls on a 2-3 hour tour.

Walk along the promenade for a cool afternoon swim or explore the 11th century church of St Peter. Dine in style on the waterfront terrace of konoba Kod Marka metres from the moored yachts.

Korcula, the home of Marco Polo, is a gem for historians as there are many remarkable museums, sites and architecture. Enter the old town through the fortified Land Gate entrance and explore the 13th century St Mark's Cathedral, complete with the spectacular sculpted Gothic doorway, spiral columns, gargoyles and the figure of St Mark.

Zlatni rat beach commonly known as Bol beach, on Brac Island, is a geological phenomenon - a stunning 1km peninsula of sand jutting out in the Hvarski Channel. Wander the beach and enjoy snorkeling off the tip.

Trogir is a medieval town founded on an ancient Greek settlement dating from 380 BC. The Romans came in 78 AD and in the Middle Ages it was occupied by Byzantine, Saracen, Hungarian and then Venetians. The rich history and unique architecture have made Trogir a UNESCO world heritage site.

Split Boarding Location

Split: kastela zenta trogir.

Split International airport, is only 23 km away from Split town. The Split airport is actually closer to Trogir town than Split town. Saturday is best spent visiting Split town or Trogir sites before taking a short taxi ride to the marina for boarding. If you arrive early at the marina on boarding day, bags can be left with the owner/operator but you will not officially be able to board until 17:00. Upon arrival at allocated marina, report to your yacht operator's office.

Airport to Split town: Taxis can be found lined up at the airport and take about 30 minutes to get to Split town It costs approximately 40 Euros one-way per taxi.

Airport to Split town or Trogir: Upon arrival at Split airport exit the building where shuttle buses are available for either Trogir or Split town. Split ACI Marina, Kastela Marina and Marina Zenta are a short taxi ride from Split town.

Dubrovnik Boarding Location

Dubrovnik: dubrovnik aci marina.

ACI Marina Dubrovnik lies near Komolac, about 2 km from the entrance to the port of Gruž and 6 km from the old city.

Taxis can be found lined up at the airport and take about 45 minutes to get to Dubrovnik ACI Marina town. It costs approximately 50 Euros one-way per taxi.

Airport to Old Town Dubrovnik: Upon arrival at Dubrovnik airport exit the building and the airport shuttle bus is parked alongside the building. Tickets are bought on the bus and the cost of the airport transfer is approximately 5 Euros. The shuttle stops at Pile Gate in front of Old Town Dubrovnik where you want to disembark. Old Town Dubrovnik to ACI Dubrovnik Marina: Just outside of Pile Gate you can purchase tickets for bus numbers 1A or 1B and get off at stop in Komolac (just after the INA gas pump).

• A valid passport or ID card from your country of origin or residence.

In our fleet we have boats from 30 feet to about   64 feet and in terms of berths our boats offer space for 6-12 persons. All boats are carefully maintained by our technical team and the colleagues from Beneteau Croatia . As a charter client you can expect to board a charter boat in super condition.

Well, what is the wording – no rule without an exception ! Actually, we at Ultra Sailing also have Catamarans for charter ; the catamarans are of the brand Fountaine Pajot . If you rather want to rent a motorboat , mega yacht or other types of vessel our experienced booking team can of course assist you in finding vessels of those types.

From which charter bases in Croatia can the Ultra Sailing boats be rented?  Ultra has branch offices and staff in ACI Marina Split , ACI Marina Dubrovnik , Marina Baotic (Trogir) ,    ACI Marina Pomer in Pula and Marina Kastela . Charter boats have to be returned in the same Marina they were rented in. Upon request and payment of additional fee it is possible to arrange one way charter from Trogir/Split to Dubrovnik or vice versa .

If you don't posess valid licenses, chartering a skippered yacht in Croatia is advised.

The deposit amount is set by the charter policy (depends on the boat length, age and insurance rate) payable by VISA, EUROCARD, DINERS or cash. We can offer a deposit insurance with non-refundable fee (app.10% of the full insurance sum).

What are the obligatory extras on bareboat charters?

Obligatory extras are additional items that you pay at the charter office during the check in procedure. Some of these items you already pay through the yacht charter, at the reservation. It is required to refuel the tanks before returning to home port. However, there are some obligatory extras, that you need to pay at spot:

Is it possible to insure the deposit for a yacht charter?

Most of the Croatia charter companies  approve this option. It is required to let us know in advance that you want to insure the securtiy deposit. Please note that this covers most of the damages depending on the insurance policy of the  specific boat owner. What exactly the damage waiver covers (usually the sails, hull, loss of fenders or a winch handle, small scratches and ropes).

Damage waiver is a non-refundable part. The insurance amount depends on the age, the length and the insurance policy of the vessel. The yacht is considered fully booked after your full confirmation. Advanced instalment needs to be settled within 7 days . The 2nd. instalment, one month prior the embarkation . When we receive the bank transfer, we will send you the booking contract (Voucher) that you need to show at the Check-In procedure in the base manager office

We will be also obligated to send you the the full yacht details, the marina map, pier number and embarkation time. It is also recommended, that you send us fully completed crew list and scanned  skippers documents in order to provide a faster check in procedure at the base.

When you receive the contract, we have no further obligation regarding to the charterer. From this moment on, the charter company, from which you rented the yacht, takes full responsibility of the booking and check-in procedure concerning the client/charterer. You can find all the details written in our terms and conditions. Please read our  terms and conditions .

Bareboat Charter

Bareboat charter is one of the most popular forms of exploring the Adriatic coast with more than 1200 islands along the Croatian coastline. Bareboat charter is considered chartering s boat with no crew and means you are responsible for the boat and your group and is the opportunity to spend vacation with your family or closest friends completely relying on your own competence in navigation, thus being responsible for the safety of all. It has become the top choice among tourists all over the world.

You actively take role in arranging your own itinerary. Still you can accept some other suggestions from base manager or our skippers. Provided you have enough experience, you are in charge of the boat yourself, with no skipper as guide. It is a challenging adventure indeed.

In this case you need an International Certificate of Competence (competence in navigation). The VHF certificate is also required for reasons of safety (the use and operation of VHF radio). You will find a wide range of boats available for bareboat charter, usually up to 50 feet. All the boats, both sailing and motor ones, are equipped with all the essentials as well as with safety and navigational equipment to make your navigation simpler and easier. Here is the list of license that are accepted in Croatia: certificate.pdf If someone from your group does not possess a valid nautical license, no charter company in Croatia will give you the boat without a crew even if you have a lot of experience. Have in mind that you are entirely responsible of the keeping and sailing of the boat and for the safety of your group. During your check in ask our base manager all the questions that interest you besides the ones he was briefing you about.
