Sirius 21/22: Sailing Down the Highway
Canadian-built trailer sailboats include the CS 22, Tanzer 22, as well as various models from C&C, Paceship, Abbott, Grampian, Viking, Mirage and Northstar. One gem is the Sirius 21/22 built by Vandestadt and McGruer Ltd. of Owen Sound, Ont. a company which had a strong 25-year history before finally closing its doors in 1987.
new sailboater just bought a Sirius 21
Aug 18, 2015. #2. Congratulations on your boat purchase and welcome to sailing! The keel is solid cast iron so sandblast away. As far as a motor size 5 HP will be fine just make sure it is a long shaft. Lower motor weight is important in these Sirius 21's because the stern sits down in the water a bit.
SIRIUS 21/22 (CAN)
The SIRIUS 21/22 is said to be the first North American production-built, ballasted cruising boat with positive flotation. In a more expensive procedure, closed-cell foam was injected into some compartments, then into the gap between the inner and outer hull the full length and up to the deck level. In the early 1980s, the hull was modified to ...

The company also built the SIREN 17. The SIRIUS 21/22 is said to be the first North American production-built, ballasted cruising boat with positive flotation. In a more expensive procedure, closed-cell foam was injected into some compartments, then into the gap between the inner and outer hull the full length and up to the deck level.
Review of Sirius 21
The Sirius 21 is equipped with a swing keel. A swing keel is a pivoting lifting keel, allowing to sail both coastal and inland waters. The boat can enter even shallow marinas as the draft is just about 0.40 - 0.50 meter (1.31 - 1.61 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.
One Hundred Choices for the Best Small Cruiser
Rigging a Sirius 21 sailboat is a straightforward process, but it should be done carefully to ensure the safety of the boat and its crew. Attach the mainsail halyard to the handle at the top of the mast and thread it through the mast sheave. Attach the spinnaker halyard, also known as the topping lift, to the aft side of the mast and thread it ...
Thinking about Sirius
Apr 22, 2009. 11. Sirius 21 Binghamton, NY. Apr 22, 2009. #1. I am thinking about a Sirius 21/22 for trailer sailing. I am going to look at a couple this weekend. If anyone can make recommendations of things to look out for, then that would be great. An earlier thread mentioned dry rot on the rudder...

Sirius 21- Moving On
Sirius 21 Oyster Bay, NY. Jul 19, 2016. #3. I own the same boat for a year. I sail in during the winter in Long Island. I found it to be a great, responsive boat. I previously sailed a 21' oday and found the sirius to sail and handle significantly better. I too kept it in a slip. I only had to launch it and pull it once, but neither was an ...
Considering purchasing Sirius 21 for $5000 CAD : r/sailing
Okay so the $5k with the Yamaha (great motor) and trailer seems more reasonable. The $1400 I mentioned earlier was for a pre-owned Yamaha. Check the towing capability of your vehicle as well. My Forester isn't powerful enough to haul the Sirius 22 which came as a surprise.
First produced in 1977, the Sirius 21 later became the Sirius 22 when a reverse transom was added. Other than an additional 10 inches and a bit more buoyancy, the 21 and 22 are the same. These Sirius sailboats are fitted with a lifting keel (A few fixed keel 22s were produced before the builder went out of business in 1987), an outboard, a ...
Sirius 22
Sirius 21. The designs are all recreational keelboats, built predominantly of fibreglass, with wood trim and aluminum spars. They all have transom-hung, kick-up rudders controlled by a tiller and iron swing keels that can be locked down. A fixed, lead, fin keel was an option on the 21 and 22. All models displace 2,000 lb (907 kg), carry 525 lb (238 kg) of iron ballast and are normally fitted ...
Sirius 28 information? Anyone?
Box 7 (519) 371-3999. Owen Sound. Ontario, Canada NYK5P1. Sirius sailboats (21' 22' & 28') were manufactured in Canada during the early to mid 1980s. This Article below was featured in Canadian Yachting, June 1986. Sirius 28. Good breeding and "modern conservative" thinking produce a reliable , appealing cruiser.
Sirius 21 keel
8. Sirius 21 Beech Beach, Lake Huron. Jun 3, 2021. #3. I'm planning on checking my keels pivot bolt also in a couple days. Right now my boat is off the trailer up on stands for bottom paint so I'll lower the keel and make a wood frame to support it in place then pull the bolt. As this old boat is new to me I have the opportunity now to confirm ...
Sirius-Werft 40 DS
Sirius 40 DS - tested and reviewed. A hugely capable cruiser that dares to be different, with double-deck living. Verdict: If I was planning to sail around the world and live aboard, the Sirius 40 DS is the yacht I would go for. She's solid, meticulously thought out, extremely comfortable to live with and superbly finished.
Sirius 35DS
Sirius Yachts' innovative 'double-decker' range of yachts continues to surprise, as Sam Jefferson discovered when he took its 35DS out for a spin. I t's a hideous cliché to say that the German nation as a whole has gained a reputation for being both thorough and efficient when it comes to working methods. I imagine it must get pretty tedious for Germans themselves, but if they want to ...

It takes into consideration "reported" sail area, displacement and length at waterline. The higher the number the faster speed prediction for the boat. A cat with a number 0.6 is likely to sail 6kts in 10kts wind, a cat with a number of 0.7 is likely to sail at 7kts in 10kts wind. KSP = (Lwl*SA÷D)^0.5*0.5

Rigging a Sirius 21
Jul 21, 2018. #9. If that is the rudder not a center board... Which it looks to be. Flip it 180 degrees. The rope goes to the aft the bolt goes forward. The cutout appears to sit over a piece of the black metal bracket of the upper rudder wood piece. The rope is attached to the cleat to hole the rudder down.
New/replacement sails for sirius 21
I would like to replace the main and jib on my sirius 21. I am using the original Storer (sp?) sails. I really like them but the patching and the re-grommeting of the jib is getting a bit much. Any recommendation on source for new and/or used sails. I know the specs are available on line, just figured I would get some input from other owners.
