I'm considering buying a NewPort 30
Bavaria 38E Alamitos Bay. Jun 4, 2020. #13. I personally doubt that you will much enjoy sailing west to east in the Caribbean on a beamy, 30-ft boat built for the Newport to Catalina run across a 26 n.mi. channel. Boats sailing the Caribbean these days tend to be nearer 40 ft, often larger.
Woud YOU take a Newport 30 offshore?
The Newport 30 Mk III is a blue water cruiser evidenced by a 70 gal water tank and a 32 gal fuel tank. Most boats that size have about 15 and 8 gallon capacities respectively. Didnt get the boat new, so not sure what the original looked like, but at somepoint the hull/deck joint was reinforced with glass mat.

Southern California. Mar 14, 2014. #4. When I was a kid, my dad had a Newport 30. Basic boat, built like a brick shit house, sailed just fine. Not a race boat, but for a day sailor or a nice weekender for my dad, me, and my brother, it did just fine. Had an Atomic 4 that was eventually rebuilt, but for boats of that era, the Atomic 4 was standard.

Cal has an atomic 4 (needs work). Ranger has a Yanmar 1MG10 (woks but has a few leaks). The Newport a Universal Inboard Universal Diesel 5411. The Cal is the one that needs most work being the oldest... sails and engine work is needed, while the Newport and the Ranger are ready to sail. The Newport is in good condition.
