I would like to know if someone has the Yachting F

I suppose it depends on what you want it to show and what you can afford. But Im sure with a bit of digging around you could probably get a good one for much less from the UK market or even US. R4400 is a ****load of money just for a wireless ff! Offcourse the problem is also the range of these wireless ff's are normally pretty poor. My buddy has a complete Anatec baitboat setup that cost him over R10 000, and his ff only has a range of about 100m. Thats a big downside...  

Cheapest one that is wireless and that is available is going for €699 (R9 789.90) + Shipping + import costs. Its not like I have not looked at alternatives towards the wireless fish finder. I spent hours on google. True story. 300m range is what is available, other fish finders that has wireless range goes up to 50-80m. That will not be sufficient for specimen angling.  

No problem, didnt mean anything bad about doing a search lol. But most guys in SA only look at the SA market... Theres a wireless ff for bait boats on amazon uk for £129.99 that goes to 300m range. Problem is almost all of them will have a pretty basic display, with a few of the better ones having it a little better... Is the difference in display worth that extra R5000? The buddy of mine who has the Anatec with fishfinder has the same display and its done him very well. It has different settings so one can identify structure etc. So depth, structure, type of bottom...isnt that all one needs? Just an opinion by the way. No worries.

Deeper smart only 50m range so a no go for the bait boat. 😞  

What I am going to write you , it may turn you back from buying this kind of fish finder. I have experimented for more then year with my finder  Hummingbird Piranhamax 230 . Almost all  other RF finders work with this Smart cast RF35 wireless sensor. The best you can get is the bottom structure and depth and that only on pretty smooth water. On choppy water your bait boat will dance and you will see crap on screen. That sensor is of very low sonar power and with that gives very poor results. RF Distance on Yachting is very good as it has aerial . I had to modify mine Hummingbird to get over 200m range . I use  Hummingbird on bait boat and canoe as it comes with two transducers. On canoe I use the transducer that is wired to unit and surely 100 times more powerful then RF sensor. It is huge difference what you see on screen. With wireless you get all the time false fish alarm, noise  and sometimes stops to plot and so on. So... think twice , and if you want to buy one speak to Ganis and you will get best price

Very interesting D5!  

If you want a proper unit it will unfortunately be a couple of thousand. Look at the european and eastern block countries as carp angling is massive and they do it right. Suppose if one has that kind of money to blow on a bait boat fishfinder then why not. But with the rand being so weak its abit mad.  

I agree Kusaf. This small wireless sensor is a toy meant as a float and for rod use. Lot of people went around trying to improve it but at the end it is still a toy.  Carplounge stuff is great - I had opportunity to have a close look at the boat - real quality. But prices for SA pocket are very high. Are you planing to just make for your own  Mark 5 X DSI or you will make it for sale too. I assume that you have to make Transmitter and Receiver , then battery pack for transducer with amplifier and so on. Does anybody already making those modules ?  

Hi D5 The exchange rate is a killer but remember that with some dodgy moves you can get the 19% VAT off. Currently I am only doing the conversion on my FF and if it works I might get it done for others at a cost off course. The problem is that you wont get a standard transmitter receiver and they will have to be designed specifically. Well lets see if they get it done for me in time for x-mas fishing trip.  

Look, I manged all the time to get German Vat back as supplier - fishing shop in Germany paid me back via Pay Pal . I collected goods while in Germany but have to post him back from SA stamped invoice from German airport customs  . You lose a bit on Pay Pal fee. But if they send it via courier to SA - they don't charge you Vat but then you pay our Vat In first case no Vat at all. So,  you having somebody making that for you . That must be a big job as modifications are not easy. I am electronics and I was planing to make boards for mods but not haveing any dam close by,  it become imposible to design something that you can't test it . Pool does not work. Keep us posted how did it come out an how well works .

FC 500 – Centre Console

A few issues back we brought you a test on the FC430, a no-nonsense open fishing dinghy from Fish City. While the success of the FC430 has been exceptional, there were still those that wanted something bigger. Welcome to the FC500

Fishing is New Zealand’s biggest recreational pastime, be it from rocks and beaches, tinnies or motor yachts. Kiwis will go fishing in anything, even if the boat’s more suited to towing a wake board than storing rods. There’s no doubt that aluminium is the flavor these days for those that have a special bent for fishing, with a massive selection of alloy trailer boats from 4m to over 9m. Hardtops and pontoon boats have been the big winners. However, not everyone can afford, has a place to park, or wants, a big boat. I live on the beach at Manly, Whangaparaoa, just North of Auckland and a few months ago I tested the budget package tiller steer FC430. What an awesome little boat. 

It was a breeze to launch off the beach, lovely to drive and when we came back very easy to hose down and clean up. Best thing is we also caught plenty of fish. As a big open dinghy I doubt there is anything better….until maybe now, that is.

The FC500 is a development of the FC430, it’s just that it’s bigger. Like the FC430 it is also available as an open dinghy or as a centre console. Not one to ignore the potential of customers’ requests, Fish City’s Ross Christensen commissioned a big sister for the FC430 after being approached by clients for a centre console option. After trying various ideas in the FC430, he decided that what he really needed was something bigger, so the FC500 was born.

A variation of that console is also available on the FC430.

He adds that once they had proven the hull was what they wanted, the design process started on the centre console. “We looked at numerous ideas, from fibreglass to even just a large chilly bin type centre console, but in the end decided that a proper aluminium centre console was obviously better suited to the style of boat we were marketing”, adds Ross. If the FC430 lacked anything it was dry storage – apart from the space under the foredeck – but in the FC500 centre console there is heaps. The console has come in for extra attention to not only be the platform for the steering, instruments and sounder, but also a generous storage compartment, accessed through a So-Pac hinged door and dedicated seating with storage under.

There is enough space under the hinged forward seat to store all your dive gear. The upper forward locker houses the battery and spare oil, plus there’s still space for a few more bits and bobs. On top of the console, the builders have added a nice open tray with surrounding upstand that gives you somewhere to toss the car keys, cellphone and sunnies. The standard boat comes with a Humminbird bracket mounted sounder, but if you want to upgrade to something bigger and more powerful then there is enough real estate on the dash for at least a 10” MFD screen.

Just as in the FC430 there is a two-level storage area under the foredeck, which also incorporates a reasonably sized open top anchor locker. There is space here also for a small capstan. Provision has been made for rod holder mounts under both gunnels.

Size Matters

The big difference between the FC430 and FC500 is really all about size. The FC430 is 4.3m overall, whereas the FC 500 is 5.0m. The FC430 has an external beam of 1.65m, with the FC500 extended out to 2.05m. Both have an internal coaming height of 57mm, but the external coaming height of the FC500 is marginally taller. Both also have 30mm wide side decks and a treadplate welded-in sole. The foredeck area is the same on both the FC430 and FC500.

The fishing ‘footprint’ internally for the FC430 is around 4.50sqm, whereas the FC500 is 5.30sqm – a lot more space for your soft bait fishing. As for the weight, the FC430 has a towing weight of around 350kg and the FC 500, 390kg. Overall, everything is proportionally bigger.

Construction of both the FC430 and FC500 is the same, with 4mm plate hull, transom and deck and 3mm plate used on the sides and gunnels. Both have the same 12-degree deadrise.

Drivability

The difference in driving the FC430 with tiller steer and the FC500 from a console is huge and there’s no doubt in a boat this size with the horsepower on the transom the centre console is the way to go. But there are some – especially commercial guys – who are happy with tiller steer, so that option is available on the FC500. The big thing is that it drops the all-up package price from an already very reasonable $NZ24,995 down to $NZ19,995, leaving quite a bit over for extra fishing tackle.

Like the FC430, the FC500 is really an inshore calm water fishing boat, but the team at Fish City have ‘gone wide’, fishing off Raglan and even around Channel Island in the Colville Channel. My test run was again off the beach at Manly, about 5km straight out onto the worm beds. The sea state was very mild and as expected the FC500 performed just fine. I did however feel that the boat drove very flat and lacked bow lift, even when the outboard was trimmed to the max.

Craig Archer, boat sales manager for Fish City Auckland, says that once you bolt on a heavier 4 stroke 40hp/60hp outboard (around 25kg more) the extra weight on the transom and in the case of the 60hp, the extra power, makes a noticeable difference to the trim of the boat. Top speed with a 60hp outboard is around 32 knots (37 mph). Our test boat was the very basic centre console model with a 2-stroke tiller steer 40hp Mercury ELPTO. Top speed was 27 knots (31 mph).

It proved an extremely stable fishing platform, with excellent stability and with just two of us soft baiting there was plenty of space. Like the FC430 your catch can be stowed in the dedicated transom fish bin, which can be filled with fresh seawater to act as a passive live bait tank. So what do you get for your $NZ24,995 standard package price? Firstly there’s the engine, a Mercury 40hp ELPTO, the Voyager low rider trailer and of course the all-alloy boat. Standard equipment includes a Humminbird 550 sounder, nav lights, battery and isolator switch, plus eight rod holders. Also included is the standard trailer, which has LED lights, registration and a WoF.

In all available spaces under the welded tread plate floor and under the gunnels the hull is packed with positive flotation. This means that the FC500 is virtually unsinkable and the flotation under the gunnels is designed to stop the boat rolling over if swamped.

The FC boats have been built to survey standards! while this seems a bit extreme for the size of these craft it is a main point of difference between the FC range and other brands, this should give the first time buyer confidence as well as good resale value.

Like the FC 430, the FC500 is an affordable way to go boating. You don’t need a 4WD to tow it and like the Fish City adverts say, it is a perfect mix of practicality, performance and price.

• Page 1 USER GUIDE TO BECKMAN COULTER FC500 Create a New Protocol Purpose: This procedure describes how to define the parameters and create rough analysis plots for a new experimental set-up. Some protocol templates with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 fluorescent parameters exist in the CXP/Users/FLOW/AcquisitionProtocols folder, which can be modified instead of creating a new protocol from scratch.
• Page 2 15. Select the appropriate Flow Rate from the drop-down menu (recommended: Low or Medium). Changing Axis Name Purpose: It may be desirable to change the word(s) on an axis. The steps below describe how to input the axis name so that it shows on the graphs and gets stored in the LMD file.

• Page 6 Running Tubes A. Single Tube Mode allows the user to place one tube at a time onto the carousel. The sample is run, then the instrument stops & returns the tube. The first tube must be removed and then another tube can be loaded in the same position. All tubes are placed in position 10 of the carousel, which can be accessed by the small Tube Access door on the front of the carousel lid when the instrument is in Single Tube mode.
• Page 7 B. Automatic Mode allows the user to load up to 32 sample tubes into the carousel and program the instrument to automatically run each tube in sequence. Automatic Mode is the default setting for the CXP Software; no special button must be pressed to enable Automatic Mode.
• Page 8 Quality Control check on the FC500 Every morning (Monday - Friday), Facility staff run 2 QC bead sets to ensure that the lasers & PMTs are functioning normally. The QC beads also check to make sure the lasers have "warmed up" enough and are functioning at the appropriate power level. Very rarely do we see results that are abnormal - and usually when we do the problem is either a) a bubble in the fluidics (solved by priming several times)
• Page 9 8. After running the FlowCheck 9434031 beads, find another tube in the refrigerator labeled "675 beads 763253." Open the "1A_675 Beads 763253" Acquisition Protocol under FLOW. Be sure that the numbers on the tube match up with the numbers in the Acquisition Protocol.

• Page 11 Start-up Procedure: 1. Verify that the Sheath Fluid container is full. Fill with Sheath Fluid to the blue line. 2. Verify that the waste container is empty. If it contains waste, carefully dump into sink and add bleach to the first line (bleach is under sink) 3.
• Page 12 Routine Cleaning for All users after each use: (please note: feel free to log out of RIMS before washing and/or shutdown – you should only be charged for time you spend with your research, not cleaning!) 1. After finishing your data acquisition, clear the worklist by clicking should see the Acquisition Manager clear.
