All about the $40m bayesian yacht that capsized, leaving 6 dead and 1 still missing.

The massive superyacht Bayesian that sank off the coast of Italy on Monday won numerous awards for its sleek interior design — and was sold to its original owner for nearly $40 million.

The luxury sailing ship was carrying 22 people when it capsized and sank during a fierce storm early Monday.

A handout picture, provided by Perini Navi Press Office, shows the ''Bayesian'', the 56-metre sailing unit sunk in a violent storm off Palermo, Italy, 19 August 2024

The bodies of five of six missing passengers, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch , 69, have been recovered. His daughter, 18-year-old Hannah, is the only one of six known killed in the tragedy yet to be found, a source close to the rescue operation told Reuters.

The ship’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, has also been confirmed dead.

Divers continued searching the wreckage of the 184-foot-long, British-flagged vessel, previously called Salute, on Wednesday after discovering four of the bodies.

When it was built in 2008, the Bayesian had the tallest aluminum mast in the world, standing at 237 feet, earning it the award for best exterior styling at the World Superyacht Awards in 2009, the Telegraph reported.

The sprawling superyacht’s interior, decorated with sleek, minimalist furnishings created by Remi Tessier, has also won numerous awards.

The ship, which accommodated 12 guests, had a master bedroom and three double and two twin bedrooms.

It also featured beige sofas, dark wood furnishings, and a teak deck equipped with a large canvas awning to keep guests cool, according to the outlet.

Some of the ship’s styling, including thin brown pillars and miniature terra cotta sculptures, was inspired by Japanese culture.

What to know after a tornado sank the yacht Bayesian off the coast of Sicily:

  • A superyacht capsized off the coast of Sicily after a tornado hit the area early Monday, killing seven passengers.
  • British tech tycoon Mike Lynch was identified as one of the bodies pulled from the wreckage. His teenage daughter, Hannah, was the final one to be recovered.
  • Lynch — known as “Britain’s Bill Gates” — had invited guests from Clifford Chance, a legal firm that represented him, and Invoke Capital, his own company, on the voyage,  according to the Telegraph .
  • Security camera footage shot from 650 feet from where the  Bayesian sank Monday  shows it disappearing.
  • A rare and unexpected “black swan” weather event may have led to the  Bayesian’s speedy demise , maritime experts say.

The extravagant ship won best interior at the International Superyacht Society Awards in 2008 and was also voted one of the best large sailing yachts at the 2009 World Superyacht Awards, according to the outlet.

The yacht’s original owner, John Groenewoud, a Dutch real estate developer, reportedly bought the ship for £30 million ($39 million) when it was built. In 2014, he sold the ship with an asking price of £27 million ($35 million).

The Bayesian is currently owned by Revtom, a company that listed Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, as its legal owner.

It was named after the Bayesian statistical model that helps financial investors calculate risk — the subject of Lynch’s PhD that later helped him build his empire.

The vessel, operated by yachting company Camper & Nicholsons, had twin 965hp MTU engines, which gave it a range of 3,600 nautical miles at 13 to 15 knots (14 to 17 mph).

An ambulance carries the body of a person which was found at the scene where the luxury yacht sank.

RSB Rigging carried out rig service works on the ship with Astilleros de Mallorca, a shipyard facility in Palma, in November 2016.

The Bayesian returned in September 2020 for scheduled service works, including having its mast removed and reinstalled.

Steve Branagh, managing director of RSB Rigging, told the Telegraph: “At this time, our deepest sympathies go out to the friends and families of all those affected by this dreadful tragedy.”

Mike Lynch, recently acquitted in HP-Autonomy fraud case, is missing after yacht capsized off Sicily (updated)

yacht sale lebanon

Update 2 : His body has now been identified. Story here .

Update : Authorities have yet to access the inside of the sunken yacht, and Mike Lynch is still classified as missing. Other details have emerged in the interim.

The accident appears to have been caused by a major storm and a resulting tornado-like water column that ensnared and damaged the yacht. Among the other six people still missing are Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter and Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Bloomer. The voyage was to celebrate Lynch being acquitted of criminal charges in the U.S., and several members of his legal team were also on board. (The ship was registered to Lynch’s wife, one of the survivors.) By a terrible coincidence, the other person acquitted in Lynch’s trial — Autonomy’s finance head Stephen Chamberlain — had died just a few days before when he was hit by a car while out jogging. Original article continues below.

Mike Lynch, the investor and high-profile founder of U.K. tech firm Autonomy, has been declared missing at sea after the yacht he was on, the Bayesian , capsized in a storm off the coast of Sicily early Monday morning.

TechCrunch confirmed with a source close to the rescue operation that Lynch is one of six people missing from the boat. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, is one of the 15 who have been rescued. One body has been found.

The news is a dramatic, tragic development for one of the more colorful, and sometimes controversial, figures in technology out of the U.K.

Lynch’s enterprise technology firm Autonomy was acquired in 2011 by HP for $11 billion — a major milestone for U.K. technology. But it quickly turned sour, and HP sued Lynch and other executives at the company, arguing it was misled in the transaction.

HP claimed that the deal led to a $4 billion loss — money it then demanded from Lynch and his former CFO. Lynch (pictured above, left) long asserted that he acted in good faith and that he was being made into a scapegoat over a merger gone bad.

That legal drama went on for more than a decade and involved a host of other thorny chapters, including Lynch’s extradition to the U.S. and a lot of very bad publicity for Lynch. It also led to a second civil case that took place in 2022 in the U.K., which Lynch lost.

The U.S. criminal case, where Lynch was charged with 15 counts of fraud and conspiracy, went to trial earlier this year in San Francisco. Finally, in June, Lynch was acquitted .

“I am elated with today’s verdict and grateful to the jury for their attention to the facts over the last ten weeks. My deepest thanks go to my legal team for their tireless work on my behalf,” Lynch said at the time. “I am looking forward to returning to the UK and getting back to what I love most: my family and innovating in my field.”

In the interim years, Lynch built up a profile in the U.K. as an investor, most prominently as the founder of Invoke Capital . The VC firm was the biggest investor in cybersecurity firm Darktrace, a connection that was not without its own controversy . It also invested in Sophia Genetics , Featurespace and Luminance, among others. And it appeared that this is the route that he was set to continue.

Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues. We’ll update this post as we learn more.

Luxury yacht sinks off Sicily, leaving U.K. tech magnate Mike Lynch, 2 Americans among those missing

By Anna Matranga

Updated on: August 20, 2024 / 7:47 PM EDT / CBS News

Rome  — Six people, including two U.S. nationals, a British technology entrepreneur and one of his daughters, were still missing Tuesday after a large luxury sailing yacht sank off the coast of the southern Italian island of Sicily during a violent storm. The 184-foot Bayesian had been anchored about half a mile off the port of Porticello, near Palermo, with 22 people on board — 10 crew members and 12 passengers.

The vessel sank at about 5 a.m. local time (11 p.m. Eastern, Sunday) after being hit by a possible waterspout spawned by the storm. Italian media said the winds snapped the boat's single mast, unbalancing the vessel and causing it to capsize.

Fifteen of those on board managed to escape the yacht and were rescued by a Dutch-flagged vessel that was anchored in the immediate vicinity. They were brought ashore by Italian Coast Guard and firefighters.

italy-boat-sinks-sicily.jpg

One body — an unidentified male — was recovered, but six people remained missing, including British software magnate Mike Lynch, once described as Britain's Bill Gates.

Lynch was acquitted in June of fraud charges in the U.S. that could have landed him with a decades-long prison sentence. In an unusual twist, Lynch's co-defendant in that fraud case, who was also acquitted, died Saturday after being hit by a car while out jogging in England.

Lynch's teenage daughter Hannah was also among those missing, along with Lynch's American lawyer Chris Morvillo, a former assistant district attorney in New York, and his wife Neda. British banker Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, was also still missing Tuesday.

Hewlett Packard Rotten Deal Trial

Among the survivors was a 1-year-old British girl who was being treated at a nearby hospital along with her parents. They were doing well, according to Italian media.

"For two seconds I lost my child to the sea, then I immediately was able to grab her again in the fury of the waves," the girl's mother, identified only as Charlotte, was quoted as saying by Italy's ANSA news agency. "I held on to her tightly in the stormy sea. Many were screaming. Luckily the life raft opened up and 11 of us managed to get aboard."

"It was terrible," she told ANSA. "In just a few minutes the boat was hit by a very strong wind, and sunk soon thereafter."

bayesian-yacht.jpg

Karsten Borner, the captain of the Dutch vessel that came to the rescue, told ANSA he had been anchored near the Bayesian.

"When the storm was over we noticed that the ship behind us was gone, and then we saw a red flare, so my first mate and I went to the position and we found this life raft drifting, and in the life raft was also a little baby and the wife of the owner."

Recovery efforts were back underway Tuesday, with speedboats, helicopters and divers continuing to search for the missing — as well as for answers, as to how a state-of-the-art superyacht could disappear in a flash.

According to Italian media, Fire Brigade divers reached the boat and saw bodies trapped inside some of the cabins, but they had been unable to recover any of the victims from inside the vessel by Tuesday, due to obstructions. The Bayesian appeared to have sunk in an area with a depth of about 160 feet.

italy-boat-sinks-sicily2.jpg

Witnesses said the boat sank quickly.

"I was at home when the tornado hit," fisherman Pietro Asciutto told a local news outlet. "I immediately closed all the windows. Then I saw the boat, it had only one mast, it was very large. I suddenly saw it sink... The boat was still floating, then suddenly it disappeared. I saw it sink with my own eyes."

The director-general of Sicily's civil protection agency, Salvatore Cocina, confirmed to CBS News partner BBC News  that three of the six people still missing Monday were British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, whose company Autonomy Corporation PLC was acquired in 2011 by HP ; one of his daughters, Hannah Lynch, who is believed to be 18; and the boat's chef, Ricardo Thomas.

CBS News has seen corporate documentation showing a company called Revtom, solely owned by Lynch's wife Angela Bacares, who was among those rescued from the accident, as the owner of the yacht that capsized off Sicily.

While the yacht was a privately owned pleasure boat, the waters around the island have claimed many lives over the last decade.

Dozens of migrants have died attempting to reach Sicily and smaller Italian islands in the region. Sicily sits only about 100 miles from the east coast of Tunisia in north Africa, and the Mediterranean crossing has been a frequent site of both nautical rescues and disasters as smugglers routinely send small boats overloaded with desperate people into the sea.

Alex Sundby , Joanne Stocker and Chris Livesay contributed to this report.

CEO got big bucks as his hospital chain imploded. Here's who suffered.

Portrait of Ken Alltucker

Donna Gittens felt drained as she struggled to form words. Dinner plans with her husband and friends would have to wait. She worried she was in the middle of a stroke.

Gittens was rushed to Carney Hospital, minutes from her home in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. Last summer's emergency spanned two facilities as physicians unraveled a medical mystery. The underlying issue was a brain infection, but she credits her neighborhood hospital's doctors and nurses with saving her life.

She now worries others in her area won't have access to the same emergency care.

Carney is one of two Massachusetts hospitals targeted for closure Aug. 31 following recent chaotic developments at Steward Health Care. The embattled for-profit hospital chain filed for bankruptcy on May 6 and has been mired in crises involving patients and creditors across several states.

The chain is led by a former heart surgeon who collected more than $100 million in compensation and bought a $40 million yacht while employees at Steward hospitals complained about a lack of basic supplies, according to a Senate committee. More than 2,200 employees now expect to be laid off in Massachusetts and Ohio, according to notices filed with state regulators.

The company's CEO, who lawmakers say has declined multiple requests to answer questions voluntarily, is expected to appear under subpoena in mid-September before a Senate committee to address "financial mismanagement" at Steward.

The case has raised broader issues for lawmakers and analysts about the role of private equity investments in health care. Many people from communities impacted by hospital closures are asking why there aren't built-in protections when a corporation takes over an institution providing essential life-or-death services.

The problem extends beyond Massachusetts. State health regulators in Arizona this month suspended operations at a Steward-owned psychiatric hospital after the air conditioning at the Phoenix facility cut off amid triple-digit temperatures. In West Monroe, Louisiana, hospital workers described searching the premises for basic medical supplies during procedures. One patient died at the hospital awaiting transfer to another hospital, resulting in an "immediate jeopardy" citation from regulators, according to testimony at a Louisiana House Health and Welfare Committee meeting in April.

After the chain declared bankruptcy, the Massachusetts governor enacted an emergency plan to manage the disposition of its seven remaining hospitals there. The company sought and received approval from the bankruptcy court to shutter Carney and a second facility, Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, by the end of August.

Gittens, who survived a health scare, worries her local neighborhood with a diverse, mixed-income population, will be left without essential medical care. During medical emergencies like hers last summer, timely care can be the difference between life and death.

"Carney is integral not only to my family – but the broader community," said Gittens.

Despite pleas from neighborhood leaders, the state has no plans to keep Carney or Nashoba Valley open. However, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey said at an Aug. 16 news conference the state plans to use eminent domain to take control of another Steward hospital, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton. The state has struck deals with other operators to run the other four Steward hospitals.

Healey blamed Steward's financial collapse on its CEO, Dr. Ralph de la Torre, and the hospital chain's executives.

"This is not something that Massachusetts created," Healey said. "It was created by the greed and the exploitation of an individual, Ralph de la Torre, and members of his team. De la Torre's actions brought us to nearly the brink of collapse" at Steward's hospitals.

A spokesperson representing de la Torre did not respond to questions from USA TODAY about allegations of problems at an array of Steward Health Care facilities.

In a statement, the company said it would seek to minimize disruptions to patients.

"This is a challenging and very unfortunate situation, and the effect it will have on our patients, our employees, and the communities we serve is regrettable," the statement provided by Steward representative Deborah Chiaravalloti said. "SHC (Steward Health Care) is doing all we can to ensure a smooth transition for those affected, while continuing to provide quality care to the patients we serve."

Lawmakers cite 'outrageous corporate greed'

Steward Health Care was formed in 2010 when Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm, acquired a financially struggling nonprofit hospital chain from the Archdiocese of Boston. De la Torre, a Harvard Medical faculty member who previously led cardiac surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, became CEO of the new entity, named Steward Health Care.

The Dallas-based company aggressively expanded to a chain of more than 30 hospitals employing more than 30,000 people. The expansion was fueled by a splashy deal engineered by de la Torre to sell the land underneath Steward's hospitals to a corporate landlord, Medical Properties Trust. The sale-leaseback deal left the hospitals with hefty rent payments. Bankruptcy filings show the company is now reeling with $9 billion in debt, including more than $6 billion in lease payments to its landlord.

After the bankruptcy filing in May, Steward announced plans to close hospitals and lay off thousands of workers, leaving community members who depend on the hospitals worried about where they will get care.

The chain's financial flameout captured the attention of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which authorized an investigation into the company's financial dealings. The Senate probe is expected to include questions about Steward Health's deal with private equity investors, its lavish spending, the lease deal and the hospital closures. The committee also issued a subpoena that compels de la Torre to answer questions about his company's struggles.

At a July 25 hearing, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, who chairs the committee overseeing the investigation, said de la Torre refused multiple invitations to testify before lawmakers, which prompted the bipartisan vote to order him to testify on Sept. 12.

While Steward closed its hospitals, Sanders said, de la Torre was collecting a "$100 million payday that he used to purchase a $40 million yacht." Sanders said the executive also bought a $15 million, custom-made fishing boat and had access to two private jets.

De la Torre "epitomizes the type of outrageous corporate greed that is permeating throughout our for-profit health care system," Sanders said at the hearing. "Today we are saying enough is enough. It is time for Dr. de la Torre to get off of his yacht and to explain to Congress the financial chicanery which made him extremely wealthy, while the hospitals he managed went bankrupt."

When asked which sources Sanders relied on for his July testimony about de la Torre's compensation and boats, his staff provided links to articles in The American Prospect , The Boston Globe and Becker's Hospital Review .

Beyond Capitol Hill, Steward is being scrutinized by other entities. The Justice Department launched a criminal investigation into allegations of fraud and corruption at the company, CBS and other outlets reported . The Justice Department and the U.S. Attorney in Boston declined to comment on whether the health care chain was under investigation.

Steward also has been investigated in the Mediterranean nation of Malta, where the company reached a $4 billion euro deal to manage three hospitals. In May, a Maltese magistrate recommended criminal charges against de la Torre. That probe involved the former prime minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat, who was charged with money laundering, corruption and bribery . He has pleaded not guilty and faces up to 18 years in prison, according to local media.

Private equity in health care scrutinized

The bankruptcy, hospital closings and disruptions to patient care at Steward are not the only issues the Senate committee will probe. Sanders plans to seek answers into private equity's growing stake in the health care sector.

Sanders said at a July hearing private equity firms own 460 hospitals in the United States – or about 1 in 5 for-profit hospitals.

"How many of these hospitals are being loaded up with debt in order to make a handful of executives and private equity firms even wealthier?" Sanders pondered aloud. "How many of these hospitals are in danger of being shut down? How many patients are at risk?"

Experts say the Steward bankruptcy raises concerns about private equity's involvement in the health care industry. Under the Steward model, the company's debt became overwhelming as it acquired more hospitals and doctors' practices.

The financial problems following Steward's acquisition spree were inevitable, said Dr. Vikas Saini, president of the Lown Institute, a Massachusetts-based health think tank.

Saini blames the chaos on the lack of regulatory oversight for health care mergers and acquisitions.

"It illustrates how moth-eaten our oversight and regulatory apparatus is for the health care sector," Saini said. He added that hospital takeovers have "much more social impact, much more meaning to communities than whether or not an iPhone plant gets built."

Hospital ownership changes require more guardrails, transparency and public scrutiny, Saini said. "We've got to be sure that you're not just selling us a bill of goods."

Louisiana patients in 'immediate jeopardy'

In Louisiana, state health regulators scrutinized Steward-owned Glenwood Regional Medical Center, which was hit with three "immediate jeopardy" warnings in 120 days from December 2023 through early 2024. These citations described lapses that put patients' safety in jeopardy and could result in the termination of Medicare and Medicaid payments.

Debra Russell, a Glenwood nurse practitioner, worked at the hospital for more than three decades before she quit last November.

During an April hearing before a Louisiana legislative committee, she described the dire circumstances for patients at the hospital. She recalled having to switch tactics in the middle of a procedure because the hospital didn't have a $5 tube called a guide wire. In another case, a young man came to the emergency room after a heart attack but staffers could not reach an on-call cardiologist because the specialist hadn't been paid. When staff tried to order medication from the pharmacy for the patient, the drug wasn't stocked because the hospital's supplier hadn't been paid.

Evidence of the financial crunch also was visible outside the emergency room. Russell described coffee pots being repossessed and said document shredding companies had quit.

Steward's days of operating that hospital appear to be nearing an end. Steward has announced another hospital operator, American Healthcare Systems, has bid to purchase Glenwood. The bankruptcy court must approve the deal.

Steward declined to answer questions about the sale or operations at Glenwood. In a news release issued last May, the hospital said it addressed issues raised by state and federal regulators following the immediate jeopardy warnings.

During the Senate hearing this spring, Russell, the former Louisiana staffer, recalled her final days at the Steward-owned hospital as particularly gutting to witness.

"It's the saddest thing I've ever been around," Russell said.

Florida doctor sells to Steward; vendors don't get paid

Dr. Charles Fischman thought he had sufficiently vetted Steward Health Care after executives approached him about purchasing his Vero Beach, Florida, medical practice in early 2017. The internal medicine doctor was nearing retirement age and considering his next steps. He wanted to make sure his 10,000 patients, two fellow doctors, a nurse practitioner and administrative staff were in good hands.

When Fischman met with Steward executives, he said each leader was more charming than the next. He felt comfortable with the idea of a physician-led company acquiring his practice. Steward representatives talked to his employees over breakfast and eased their worries.

"We felt good about it," Fischman said.

But weeks after Steward took over on June 1, 2018, problems surfaced, he said. Longtime vendors, such as lab suppliers, complained they had not been paid. The local water and power companies were within 24 hours of shutting off services due to unpaid bills.

Under the terms of the acquisition, Fischman signed a two-year contract to remain as a physician and a lab director. Things didn't improve in the following weeks and months, Fischman said.

Fischman's wife, Carol, who also worked at the office, fielded complaints from vendors – people the Fischmans knew personally after 30 years in the community. They wanted to get reimbursed for their services so they could pay their mortgages and cover other basic living expenses, he said.

At a Vero Beach dinner meeting with some Steward executives months after the hospital chain bought the medical practice, Carol asked why the vendors' payments were delinquent. She didn't get answers.

"All we heard were stories about fishing boats and hospitals in Malta," he said, recalling his conversations with Steward executives.

His wife eventually quit in frustration. Fischman said executives pressured him to refer patients only to other Steward-employed physicians. He eventually left the practice in April 2020 and relocated to Tampa, where he still sees patients a few days a week.

Chiaravalloti, of Steward, did not answer questions about the Vero Beach medical offices.

Hospitals grapple with bankruptcy, closings

State health officials and medical community leaders from Massachusetts to Louisiana are now trying to assess how Steward Health Care's bankruptcy will affect day-to-day operations, as new information about the company's business dealings and practices continues to emerge.

On Aug. 19, the Massachusetts governor's office sent a letter to Steward describing Carney Hospital as an "essential service" for Dorchester residents, while acknowledging the state lacks the "power to mandate" the hospital remain open.

Some community leaders are urging the governor to keep the hospital open nonetheless.

Bill Walczak, a former president of Carney, said the Dorchester hospital has been plagued by "terrible decisions" going back decades, long before Steward took ownership.

But he said Carney is worth saving to ensure access for up to 250,000 people who live in its service territory. He described it as a health equity issue for residents. Offering such a remedy is within the state's purview, he said.

"Massachusetts is a very wealthy state, and it has a lot of power," Walczak said. "If the legislature and governor and secretary of Health and Human Services wanted to put together a package today to preserve the essential services of the Carney Hospital, they could do it."

Walczak noted the Healey administration vowed to use eminent domain to seize Steward's St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton and transfer the facility to Boston Medical Center. The governor said Boston Medical Center's willingness to take over St. Elizabeth's was necessary to get the deal done. The hospital's landlord, however, vowed to fight the seizure. The company that owns the property rejected Gov. Healey's opening bid of $4.5 million to buy the location.

Representatives of Healey and the state's Department of Public Health did not immediately answer questions about next steps in the hospital seizure.

Dorchester leaders want the governor to orchestrate a similar deal to keep Carney open.

"This is not over," Walczak said. "Perhaps the governor will understand there are a lot of lives that would be put in jeopardy by not having an emergency room and beds, at a minimum, in this section of the city."

NORFOLK STAR at sail

The must-see sailing yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024

As the excitement for the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 builds, BOAT takes a look at the top sailing yachts that will be making an appearance this year – from the latest launches to the finest yachts currently for sale .

Norfolk Star

Builder: Perini Navi Year: 1996 (2020) Length: 37m

Pedigree sailing yacht Norfolk Star was designed and built by the Italian shipyard in 1996 and had a "multi-million euro refit" in 2022, according to her broker. The revamp included a new main engine room, two new generators, PLC system, Inmarsat VSAT dome, 505 Williams tender, Doyle sails and Reckmann rigging. With accommodation for six guests, the yacht boasts a family-friendly layout comprising a full-beam master cabin on the lower deck along with two twin cabins – with the option of an additional pullman berth.

On deck, guests can benefit from the comfort the split cockpit area affords, where relaxed seating around a circular coffee table awaits as well as a dining area for eight.  The cherry wood interior also welcomes a bright upper saloon with panoramic views and a more formal main saloon with two sofas and dining area featuring an extendable walnut table.

Norfolk Star is listed for sale and will be exhibited by Burgess and Northrop & Johnson.

Builder: Wally Year: 2024 Length: 36.2m

Having hit the water in June this year, the first wallywind110, Galma , will make her global debut at this year's Monaco Yacht Show and is recognisable by her "luminous light metallic blue" carbon hull paint job "that changes slightly as the light hits her". The sailing yacht's naval architecture comes from German studio judel/vrolijk & co , while interior and exterior lines are designed by Wally in collaboration with Santa Maria Magnolfi . The design demonstrates the comfort of a cruising yacht while maintaining the spirit and performance of a racing boat, and is characterised by her 6.9-metre telescopic keel.

Highlights include an 80-square-metre full-beam cockpit with seating and dining for up to 15 people, as well as an open-plan raised saloon. The yacht also benefits from natural light thanks to a skylight that runs the full length of the coachroof. Accommodation on the wallywind100 model can be a three-cabin layout with a full-beam master suite, or a four-cabin standard layout.

Galma will be exhibited by Wally .

Builder: Vitters Year: 2017 Length: 32.6m

Delivered in 2017 to experienced sailing yacht owners, Ribelle has recently joined the market following a refit, which included a repaint of the hull, mast and boom, and a brand new suit of cruising sails. The sailing yacht is built of carbon fibre by the Dutch yard to a design by Malcolm McKeon and can be sailing with a small crew in cruising mode or, thanks to a self-tacking jib, can be transformed into a true racer.

She is a regatta regular and can often be spotted at some of the world's most prestigious events – including the Maxi Rolex Cup, Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, Les Voiles de St Tropez and Palma Superyacht Cup. Her Rémi Tessier interior accommodates six guests in three cabins comprising a master suite, VIP suite and a twin cabin.

Ribelle is listed for sale and will be exhibited by Burgess.

Dreamcatcher

Builder: Nautor Swan Year: 2024 Length: 28.8m

With her diesel-electric propulsion, the Swan 88 is the Finnish shipyard's first hybrid sailing yacht and is based on an evolution of its previous yachts. Sitting at the entry point to the world of maxi yachting, the yacht was delivered earlier this year and will make her worldwide debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival .

Dreamcatcher has been described as a "no-compromise cruiser with a racer soul" with a draught of four metres, with options for a shallow-draught, telescopic and performance keel. The yacht is also designed for comfort with a maximum heeling angle of 20 degrees and sports "feminine exterior lines" penned by veteran Swan designer German Frers . Her warm, classic interiors have been styled by Misa Poggi with accommodation for 10 guests.

Dreamcatcher will be exhibited by Nautor Swan .

Builder: Baltic Yachts Year: 2018 Length: 26m

Delivered by the Finnish shipyard in 2018, Mini Y is a Baltic 85 model designed by UK naval architect Dixon Yacht Design . Her silver hull and superstructure were built of carbon-fibre composite and the owner opted for a telescopic lifting keel that can reduce the draft from 4.3 metres to 2.95 metres when required. Mark Whiteley Design handled the  yacht's interior décor , with accommodation for up to four guests split between an owner’s cabin and a guest cabin.

On deck, the cockpit has a fold-out table for guests to enjoy, while the helmsman has the choice of two wheels. The guest cockpit can be completely covered for protection while racing, the navigation instruments still visible on the aft face. Mini Y joined the market earlier this year.

Mini Y is listed for sale and will be exhibited by Baltic Yachts and Edmiston.

Builder: Yonca Year: 2019 (2023) Length: 26.8m

Tuzla-based shipyard Yonca officially entered the leisure marine market with the launch of Mishi Yachts earlier this year. The new brand made its debut with two sailing models, measuring 26.8 metres and 31 metres – the first of which is the Mishi 88, which will be on exhibit at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Osman Tanju Kalaycıoğlu , Özgür Terzioğlu and Taka Yacht are responsible for the naval architectecture and exterior design, while interiors are the work of Aylin Örs .

The sloop's defining features include a spacious aft deck with a dining space which can comfortably seat ten guests. Offering shelter from the elements, the large cockpit features a carbon composite hard-top aft, while the swim platform has enough room in its back for a 3.5-meter inflatable tender. Accommodation is for six guests across a master cabin and two guest cabins, with further space for the captain and crew.

Mishi 88 will be exhibited by Mishi Yachts.

Builder: Yyachts Year: 2024 Length: 23.9m

German yachtbuilder YYachts is bringing its Y8 model to the Monaco Yacht Show. Javier Jaudenes of Surge-Projects worked alongside the in-house design team on naval architecture to create the model's new silhouette with a Scandi-inspired interior by Danish designer David Thulstrup. YYachts offers four pre-designed interior styles where owners can tailor the saloon area to their tastes.

A particular highlight is the owner's suite, which includes a separate saloon and can be located either in the bow or in the stern with direct access to the cockpit. In terms of technical details, the Y8 features a standard carbon mast, hydraulic main sheet system and all winches close to the helm stations. These features, along with the self-tacking jib and a lack of a backstay, enhance the yacht's performance and ease of handling.

Y8 will be exhibited by Yyachts.

Kelly ripa once jumped off a boat to prove she could talk to dolphins ‘fluently’.

Kelly Ripa once dove into the ocean because she thought she could communicate with dolphins.

During Tuesday’s episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” the talk show host recalled her friend’s 50th birthday trip to Mexico where they encountered dolphins.

“Many years ago, we were at our friend’s 50th birthday in Mexico, OK, and they rented a boat for sunset cocktails,” she started. “And all of a sudden in the water, we were surrounded by wild dolphins.”

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on "Live"

The former actress, 53, then detailed that she was coming from filming an episode of the talk show in Miami where she swam with dolphins and “communicated” with them.

“So, I, Kelly Ripa, jump into the water and I go, ‘I know how to talk to the dolphins!’ I’m like, ‘I’m gonna call them over!'” she said while making the high-pitched clicking noises she used to attract them.

However, one of her friends reminded her they had encountered “wild dolphins” and “not trained dolphins.”

“But in my mind, I thought I could talk to the dolphins because I had spoken so fluently to them,” she said while laughing.

Ripa’s co-host and husband of 28 years, Mark Conseulos, then playfully told her, “Yeah. You need to be able to do that in Spanish, and then it’d be fine.”

The longtime talk show host shared her story after Consuelos, 53, read a report that some artificial agencies are working on humans and animals being able to talk to each other.

The “Riverdale” actor was passionate about the story because he wanted to know what his beloved rescue dog Lena is saying.

“I know what she’s saying! ‘Get away from me, you weirdo!'” Ripa told her husband jokingly.
