The 203-foot (62m) luxury superyacht RoMa is beyond impressive. From her comfortable on-deck living areas to her contemporary interior spaces that were inspired by the ocean, RoMA provides the perfect platform for an exceptional charter experience from the moment you embark.

Launched in 2010 by Viareggio Superyachts, RoMA features impeccable design courtesy of famed Norwegian architect Espen Oeino. The yacht’s lavish, modern interior style was created by Katharina Raczek from Newcruise. She conceptualized a pristine color palate of crisp whites enhanced by golds and deep reds with hints of green. The interior décor pays homage to the sea with nuanced touches such as the main salon’s sand-like carpet and the Nautilus sea shell-like laser-cut paneling on the main staircase.

The spacious main salon is ideally suited for relaxing and socializing. The space features seating, a backlit onyx bar and coffee tables. Forward is formal dining for 12 at a beautiful circular table. The main deck also is home to the master stateroom located furthest forward. This elegant space features a king-size bed as well as a pullout sofa. Panoramic windows provide incredible views and natural light. The en-suite bathroom has his-and-hers sinks and a bathtub and a dressing room rounds out the lavish suite. Three additional en-suite staterooms also are found on the main deck. A fifth stateroom is located on the upper deck and the sixth is found below deck for added privacy. Twelve guests are comfortably accommodated on board.

RoMa’s on-board movie theater is a favorite space for guests after a day on the water. The full-beam skylounge features seating and a game table and beautiful nautical-inspired décor. Aft of the skylounge is a large alfresco dining table and built-in lounge seating. This is the perfect place to enjoy outdoor meals.

The sundeck aboard RoMa is a favorite place for guests to spend sun-soaked days. From the loungers and adjustable sunpads to the large pool and bar, what’s not to enjoy? This space also has an air-conditioned gym that offers impressive views as you work out.

RoMa comes with an outstanding inventory of water toys. Easily launched from her beautiful beach club, play with paddleboards, water skis, Jet Skis, Seabobs and snorkeling gear. The crew can set up the enormous waterslide for fast fun. A water golf game will keep everyone on their toys and the Castoldi Jet tender can take guests anywhere they want to go. RoMa is a PADI Superyacht Dive Boat and her onboard scuba instructors ensure total safety for all guests. She also is a RYA Personal Water Craft (PWC) School ensuring that all guests are able to use the Jet Skis and other toys. The yacht’s licensed masseuse/beautician provides a variety of spa treatments for guests. RoMa’s captain is well versed in yoga and meditation and is always willing to share his expertise on these and any other fields.

Roma is a 61.80m motor yacht, custom built in 2010 by Italian shipyard Viareggio SuperYachts. This yacht’s sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of Espen Oeino. Her contemporary interior was designed by Newcruise.

Roma represents the extraordinary second chapter in the history of VSY and rightly constitutes a determining factor. While maintaining all the technical elements which normally feature in VSY yachts, the very best components available on the world-wide market today have been selected - namely: an efficient top-of-the-range electronic infrastructure for ship automation and governance, a legendary dynamic positioning system and a myriad of environmentally friendly equipment enabling them to receive the ABS Class R2 classification. The General Plan of this yacht pays special attention not only to the Owner’s requirements but also to those of three VIP cabins situated on the upper deck - all of which have sweeping windows giving breathtaking views of the surrounding seascape which all sea-farers feel but do not always have the pleasure of seeing to such an extent. The internal design by Newcruise Yacht Project & Design naturally reflects the Owner’s personality: elegant simplicity in every detail and a notable lack of superfluous flamboyance. A symphony of light shades and colours creates a relaxing atmosphere for anyone privileged enough to experience life on board. The eyes feast on Madras silks, fine Townsend leathers, natural stones, Macassar ebony and a range of beautiful veneers all combined into furniture, accessories and fittings of clean simple lines which are a pure pleasure to behold. Packed from bow to stern with a vast array of impressive facilities, the magnificent 61.8m (203’4) RoMa is a prime example that it is possible to have it all.

Designed by the renowned Norwegian architect Espen Oeino, she was launched from the Viareggio shipyard in 2010. Throughout her luxurious living spaces, a colour palette of crisp whites contrasted against warm splashes of deep reds, subtle gold’s and hints of green create a feeling of contemporary elegance.

The main saloon has been furnished to offer comfort in opulent surroundings. A pair of L shaped sofas lay parallel whilst the chic Onyx bar/table provides the perfect spot for evening relaxation. Forward of the main saloon to the starboard side, the entrance lobby can be found where guests can take to whichever deck they please in the glass elevator.

Her accommodation sleeps 12 guests in 6 contemporary styled staterooms, including a full-beam master suite, one VIP stateroom, three doubles and a twin which can also be used as a nanny cabin if necessary. The master suite is decorated similarly to the main saloon with neutral shades and subtle lighting used to create a light and airy ambiance. It also features a spacious en-suite with a steam/shower room built in beautiful Estremos marble alongside a private dressing room, ensuring the ultimate luxury charter experience.

In terms of entertainment, RoMa is unsurpassed in luxury amenities and water-toys for an unforgettable charter experience. One of her most impressive features is an on-board cinema, the walls of which are adorned with fibre optic stars. Her fantastic outdoor spaces are equally impressive, featuring a private beach-club, swimming pool with current enabling jet, fully-equipped gymnasium and a host of toys as well as two Castoldi Jet tenders. The generous sundeck offers the perfect spot to sunbathe on the ample sun-loungers, relax with guests or enjoy a cool drink from the bar served by one of her fantastic crew members.

RoMa has a steel and aluminium superstructure and has being built to meet strictest environmental standards as witnessed by its Green Star certification, the first ever issued by RINA for a yacht. Chartering RoMa superyacht is the secret to embrace the seas and forge everlasting memories of a fantastically unique yachting experience!

Designed by the renowned Norwegian architect Espen Oeino, stunning RoMa was launched by Viareggio Superyachts in 2010. Throughout her luxurious living spaces, a colour palette of crisp whites contrasted against warm splashes of deep reds, delicate gold’s and hints of green create a feeling of contemporary elegance designed by Katharina Raczek from Newcruise who decided to include subtle references to the sea embracing RoMa yacht. That is why the carpet in the main salon simulates the sand on the sea-bottom, why the white Art Deco 3D laser cut paneling on the main staircase simulates the Nautilus sea shells, why the side panels in the upper salon simulate reef coral or why the carpeting in the aisles of the main salon seems to hide tiny sea shells. The sea is essential to the Owners so they decorated RoMa to serve as an almost invisible tribute to it.

RoMa is one of the few super-yachts fitted with a dynamic positioning system (DPS). This allows her to stop engines end stay put without having to use the anchor. This feature comes incredibly handy now that more and more areas are banning the use of anchors to protect the sea bottom. Another peculiarity of the DPS is that it allows the captain to position the yacht as per the guests’ wishes regardless of where the sun is. If they want more sunshine, RoMa will turn as needed; if they want more shade in the exterior dining areas which aren’t covered by the biminis and sunbrellas, RoMa will turn on her axis to the ideal position. Needless to say that her zero-speed stabilizers under-way and at anchor play and important factor in this and at the same time warrant that the yacht roles as little as absolutely possible.

Sun Deck: For the outdoor lovers RoMa yacht offers a spacious sun deck complete with numerous chaise-longues, vast adjustable sun pads, and a generous pool with jets capable of creating a strong current for the ultimate workout. An al-fresco bar is situated just aft of the pool. An air conditioned superbly equipped gym with an expansive view is just one of the amenities to enjoy on this prestigious super-yacht.

Upper Deck: A full beam sky lounge with coral accented pillows, is nestled in the same familiar soft cream tones as the salon and guest staterooms; strategically placed immense chairs and settee, game table and desk round out this spectacular room. The wall panels, made from papaya tree bark, feature immaculate joinery. An ample rectangular aft deck dining table provided for alfresco dining at its best. It can be extended to comfortably sit up to 16 guests. Distinctly absent onboard RoMa yacht is the din of competing colors and patterns. Guests are greeted with a serene interior design that appears effortlessly chic.

Main Salon: The oversized main salon is comprised of versatile seating areas that are especially designed with entertaining or relaxing in mind. An outstanding feature on this deck are the backlit onyx bar, dining and coffee tables. The dining area is just forward of the salon and showcases the circular dining table that will comfortably seat 12 guests in style, while savory gourmet meals are prepared to order.

Master Suite: Forward on the desirable main deck, the floor-plan raises above a staircase leading to the voluminous master suite. Another three guest cabins are also located on this same deck albeit on the same floor-plan as the salon. The Master suite, being on the same deck although on a higher location warrants real intimacy for its occupants. It exudes an understate elegance and features a king size bed as well as a pullout sofa for added flexibility. Its panoramic windows allow natural light to pour into the suite filing every corner of it. The master suite’s regal bathroom is fitted with a bathtub, shower, his & hers hand wash basins and wc. An enviable dressing room complements this fabulous master suite.

Guests’ staterooms: Two VIPs and a double guest stateroom are located on the main deck level of Roma superyacht and feature en-suite bathrooms as well as a writing desk and separate seating areas. Each of the guest staterooms is swathed in champagne and cream tones with an alternate color theme repeated in the detailing. A fifth guest stateroom is located on the upper deck, aft of the helm station, while the sixth stateroom, a convertible, is situated on the lower deck for those who may enjoy a little more privacy.

In April 2021 all six cabins had the soft furnishing of all panels, headboards, and door handles replaced.

Other outstanding features: One of RoMa’s most impressive features, very popular with the younger guests, is an on-board cinema, the walls of which are adorned with minuscule fibre optic lights imitating the fascinating bioluminescence of the sea, produced by microscopic algae.

RoMa yacht is child-friendly with a genuinely child-friendly crew. She's also wheelchair friendly thanks to the width of all aisles and doors with the added plus of the elevator servicing four decks (lower deck to upper deck. The elevator does not get to the sundeck, but the crew is trained to help guests with mobility issues get to the sundeck regardless how serious the issues are. on RoMa no one is left behind!).

In terms of entertainment, RoMa is unsurpassed in luxury amenities and water-toys for an unforgettable charter experience. Her fantastic outdoor spaces are equally impressive, featuring a private beach-club and an unbeatable array of toys including a brand new water-slide which towers above the sea-level all the way up to the sun deck. Even the fainted-hearted find themselves lured to it! Then come the paddle boards, water skies, jet skis, the enormous anti-jelly-fish pool which also serves to sunbathe, the seabobs, snorkel gear for guests of all ages, the inflatable water toys, a Castoldi Jet tender, water-golf game with balls that turn into fish food when they enter in touch with the sea water, etc. But, unarguably, one RoMa’s most unique features is T/T RoMa a 16.9m (55’ft) Anvera chase tender which is a small yacht on her own right: her interior features a salon, bathroom with shower and a cabin with a double bed whilst her exterior features a covered exterior seating area with a table to enjoy light food prepared on board, a service station for the crew and an incredibly vast aft deck which is ideal for sunbathing, getting ready for a nice scuba diving adventure, or deciding which of the many sea-water toys to use next. T/T RoMa can reach an exhilarating speed of up to 30 knots and is a sea-limousine of sorts when bringing guests ashore.

RoMa is the first yacht of her kind certified as PADI Superyacht Dive Boat and is also Yacht Scuba Safety certified. This means that guests can complete PADI dive courses on board and obtain a proper scuba diving license which they can use to dive wherever else they go in the whole wide world. Licenses obtained on board other yachts are only valid for the duration of the charter. The Yacht Scuba Safety Certificate warrants that the scuba diving courses imparted on board follow the highest safety standards and that RoMa’s dive masters and dive instructors have followed specific courses to warrant that guests diving with them will be supervised by a scuba-diving professional. But there is more than just scuba diving! RoMa is also an approved RYA Personal Water Craft (PWC) School; guests who don’t hold a license to drive a jet sky but would love to experience how fun it is only need to follow a short course on board to obtain a license which enables users to drive the RoMa’s PWC toys.

With a licensed masseuse/beautician on board, guests can enjoy the benefits of a luxury spa at sea. But that isn’t all: for those wishing to exercise mind & body simultaneously RoMa offers top quality yoga mats and yoga blocks. Furthermore,. Captain Janusz always tries to find a moment -even if it is just five minutes- to meditate and increase his mindfulness. If any of the guests wants to discover the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, the Captain will be only too happy to share his knowledge on these subjects.

7-year-old found safe after boat capsizes on fishing trip; her 2 grandfathers found dead

A 7-year-old girl was found safe while her grandfather and great-grandfather died after their boat capsized during a fishing trip at a park in Illinois.

The two men from Indiana were fishing with their 7-year-old granddaughter at the LaSalle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area, about an hour and a half from Chicago, when their boat, a 17-foot Crestliner, capsized, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said in a news release Monday. The girl was wearing a life jacket while the two men were not, police said.

'Distressed boater'

Authorities received a 911 call "about a distressed boater at the 2,000-acre lake near Marseilles" shortly after noon Sunday, the news release said. They arrived at the scene to find a capsized vessel and the little girl on the shore with park visitors who came to her aid. The visitors also helped in contacting her mother and grandmother.

First responders from multiple agencies assisted in searching for the two men who fell into the water. They were recovered in the evening around 7:45 p.m. and were pronounced dead on scene by the LaSalle County coroner, the department said.

While the identities of the two men were not released, the news release said the girl's grandfather from Merrillville, Indiana was 53 and her great-grandfather from Gary, Indiana was 80.

An investigation into the incident and what caused the vessel to capsize is ongoing.

Who are Mike Lynch and the other people missing after a yacht sank in Sicily?

Search teams are scouring waters along Italy’s southwestern shore, where a luxury sailing yacht sank early Monday. Six people are known to be missing, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter, and Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife.

Faced with the possibility that some people might have been trapped inside the ship when it sank in a storm, dive teams (including cave divers from the local fire brigade) have been looking for ways to enter the vessel.

The Palermo Coast Guard told NPR on Tuesday that such an operation is complicated by the depth and position of the hull, which lies on the seabed at a depth of around 50 meters, about a half-mile from the port in Porticello, Sicily.

Lynch, a mathematician and longtime tech entrepreneur, was on a vacation voyage that apparently doubled as a celebration of his recent acquittal on federal fraud charges in the U.S. At least two members of his legal team were reportedly on the boat.

Lynch, 59, made his name as the founder and longtime leader of Autonomy, a search engine and software company that helped companies manage information. Lynch was indicted on multiple fraud and conspiracy counts in late 2018, months after Autonomy’s former chief financial officer, Sushovan Hussain, was convicted of fraud (he was later sentenced to five years in prison).

Lynch successfully delayed extradition from the U.K. until May 2023 . Earlier this year, the case finally culminated in a lengthy trial in San Francisco that ended with Lynch’s acquittal of all charges against him in June , after he testified on his own behalf.

Also acquitted was Stephen Chamberlain, Autonomy’s former finance VP. But on Saturday — just two days before Lynch was caught in a boating catastrophe — Chamberlain was killed in a car accident , after he was struck while out for a run.

Lynch earned a Ph.D. in adaptive pattern recognition from Cambridge University. In 2006, he was awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honor for his work in the U.K.’s tech industry. After selling Autonomy, he founded an investment group focused on startups emerging from Cambridge University.

Who else was aboard?

Survivors include Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, along with Charlotte Golunski, who works at Invoke Capital, Lynch’s venture capital firm. Golunski was on the ship with her daughter, Sofia, who had just celebrated her first birthday. In an interview with La Repubblica , Golunski said she held her little girl as she floated in darkness, using all her strength to keep her arms up and prevent Sofia from drowning. Sophia’s father was also onboard and survived.

Ayla Ronald, a lawyer who worked on Lynch’s fraud case, and her partner also escaped the wreck. Other survivors include several crew members, including two women in their early 20s who were part of the ship’s staff.

Missing along with Lynch and Bloomer are Lynch’s daughter, Hannah, 18; Bloomer’s wife, Judy; a lawyer for Lynch named Chris Morvillo; and his wife, Neda, according to local newspaper Giornale di Sicilia .

Bloomer was a partner at Arthur Andersen for some 20 years, until 1994, according to his LinkedIn profile . He then led the financial services company Prudential before taking on a number of chairman roles, including at the legal services firm DWF.

Bloomer is also currently chairman of insurance company the Hiscox Group.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event,” Hiscox CEO Aki Hussain said in a statement sent to NPR. “Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our Chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing, and with their family as they await further news from this terrible situation.”

What happened to the yacht?

The gathering took place aboard a massive sailing yacht called Bayesian — a term that, in mathematics and statistics, refers to probability and uncertainty. The yacht’s overall length is listed at 55.9 meters (183 feet).

The Bayesian was off the coast of Porticello when it was swamped by a violent storm before dawn on Monday morning. Numerous eyewitness accounts cited a waterspout — a highly localized spiraling storm that’s essentially a marine tornado. Around that time, the Bayesian was located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, according to the Marine Traffic tracking site.

The ship, which had 22 people aboard, sank. In the aftermath, 15 people were rescued, but one died and six were unaccounted for.  

What about the rescue effort?

Helicopters and marine craft have been searching for any sign of the passengers, hoping to find more survivors. Sea and cave divers have also been part of the effort.

Italy’s fire brigade, Vigili del Fuoco, says it is working on a plan for divers to enter the sunken vessel. An initial attempt on Monday was cut short after divers were able to gain only limited access , citing furniture that blocked a passageway.

When asked about the possibility of finding any other survivors of the calamity, Comandante Vincenzo Zagarola of the Italian Coast Guard told radio station RTL 102.5 on Tuesday that given how much time has elapsed, it’s difficult to imagine a good outcome for the missing passengers. But, he said, the search will continue.

Pizzeria worker attacked by dog during fight with owner in Chelsea shop

CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) -- A pizzeria worker was bitten multiple times by a pit bull during a dispute with his owner in Chelsea on Monday night.

The 50-year-old employee was bitten multiple times inside Roma Pizza on Fifth Avenue just before 10 p.m.

He suffered large bites to the left arm and left leg and was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition but he is expected to survive.

The pit bull was off his leash when owner Tyshaun Watson, 35, came into the pizzeria.

The worker told the owner to leash the dog, and when he refused, words were exchanged.

The two started brawling, and the dog leaped in -- biting the victim multiple times.

Police say the victim escaped out of the store, followed by Watson, who continue to kick and punch him, knocking him unconscious. His dog also kept biting the victim.

Watson was taken into custody and is facing charges of attempted murder and assault.

Mentre proseguono le ricerche dei sei dispersi, le squadre di speleo-sommozzatori dei vigili del fuoco sono riuscite ad aprire un varco nello scafo per ispezionare il relitto. I superstiti sono ospitati all’hotel Domina-Zagarella di Santa Flavia (Palermo), diventato un quartier generale di emergenza per investigatori e soccorritori 

Il vento, la pioggia battente, l’albero della barca in lontananza e poi più nulla. Il tragico momento del naufragio della barca a vela Bayesian è stato ripreso dalle telecamere di sorveglianza di una villa che si trova a 200 metri dal luogo del naufragio e diffuso dal Giornale di Sicilia . "In appena sessanta secondi si vede che la nave sparisce”, racconta il proprietario della villa. “Casualmente dopo il clamore della notizia ho guardato le telecamere. Me lo hanno detto i miei figli. Di una ventina di telecamere installate nell'abitazione solo una non è stata disturbata dal vento e dalla pioggia. Si vede benissimo quello che succede. Per l'imbarcazione non c'è stato nulla da fare. È sparita in pochissimo tempo". 

Proseguono le ricerche dei dispersi

Lo yacht a vela Bayesian è affondato alle 4 della notte di lunedì 19 agosto. Le immagini degli impianti di videosorveglianza mostrano l’albero e lo scafo illuminati in lontananza. Piove forte e c’è vento ma l’albero sembra stabile. Poi all’improvviso arriva la tromba d’aria e la barca scompare nella tempesta. Intanto in mattinata sono riprese le ricerche dei sei dispersi, tre uomini e tre donne. Le squadre di speleo-sommozzatori dei vigili del fuoco sono riuscite ad aprire un varco nello scafo per proseguire le ispezioni del relitto che si trova adagiato a una profondità di circa 50 metri. L’hotel Domina-Zagarella di Santa Flavia (Palermo) è diventato un vero e proprio quartier generale per investigatori e soccorritori. Lì sono anche ospitati i superstiti, assistiti anche dal personale dell'hotel, che saranno ascoltati dagli inquirenti come testimoni dell’accaduto.
